Hmm. Fudge-dipped oreos versus thin mints... That's a close one, but I think I'll still have to go with thin mints.
Delicious room temp, frozen, or even partially melty!
...*shakes fist at the last page's discussion*
Now I have to go back and reheat some chili... mmmm, chili. Could use some more chili powder though. Lousy mom thinking she's allergic to chilis. When... she really isn't or she'd react to it when my dad uses canned tomatoes and green chilis....

Nooo. No, we can't. There's plenty of specialist butchers around, but none of them I have tried have yet managed to make a 'hot' sausage. The closest match among 'hot' sausage was, on the scale of heat, a dying ember. Not to say it wasn't tasty, because it was, but the local food ethic is that a sausage is one of the centerpieces of a meal in itself, not an ingredient to be chopped up and tossed into a stew or sauce for flavor's sake. Meats are smoked over peat fires or heaps of burning refuse--I can't distinguish the difference. (Note to self: buy specialty sausage for dinner, with side of mashed potatoes.) (Note to self #2: Not in the food budget until the end of the week. Christmas presents went a bit over budget.)

The two goals are kind of at odds with each other, aren't they? Though I suppose fabric choice can help a great deal.
What I would wear if I were planning to be out in frigid weather...
Cotton undershirt
Polypropylene thermal undergarments
Cotton sweatshirt
Flannel outer shirt
Some sort of wind and water resistant outer coat with a hood
That'll keep your torso warm in pretty much anything you'd want to be outside in. If that's not warm enough, you're going to have to go with either more layers or thicker outer garments, or both.Want to meet some of the most awesome people on the internet? Re: Il'deav Ilah'naie's Indiscreet Intimacies on Indigo Iceboats Random Banter #135
What temperatures are we looking at? Do you get cold easily, or can you wear a denim jacket down to about freezing temps?
I'm closer to the latter, but I've always been fine with the following setup when it gets really cold.
Head -
Ball cap (as per usual)
fleece ear warmers - ball-cap cut
Alternative: sock hat or various other winter hats. I like shapkas myself.
Neck gaiter (can be pulled up to nose) or scarf.
Upper body -
Athletic dry-fit shirt. The form-fitting ones. Under Armor cold-gear works great, but I don't own any at the moment.
T-shirt
Longsleeve cotton shirt
Polar Fleece jacket/sweatshirt
Winter coat
Hands -
Glove liners
Gloves (my preference is ones that combine both the 4th and 5th digits. Bonus if you can get ones that have a spot for handwarmers, but my fingers always get cold easily, so ymmv)
Lower body -
Good undergarments (i.e. thermal PJ leggings or Under Armor)
Jeans or insulated sweats.
Feet -
full-length socks
Polar Fleece socks
Boots.
Alternative methods of socks -
Good wool socks in place of polar fleece or both.
doubling or tripling on normal full-length cotton socks in place of either fleece or wool socks.
This method will add a bit of bulk (quite a bit compared to summer wear) but you aren't going to look like you're on an expedition to the south pole either. The best way to cut down on the appeared thickness is to choose the right coat. I wear a ski shell, which are comparatively pretty thin. Also, your shoes will feel tight if you're not used to it. This list is pretty big, and you'll probably not need all of it, or you may need to add in extra layers, depending on personal attributes and temperature. FWIW, I normally go around in just a t-shirt, cap, jeans, polar fleece jacket, and boots. It's been hanging around the whole range of 30s (F) here.

Re: Il'deav Ilah'naie's Indiscreet Intimacies on Indigo Iceboats Random Banter #135
o.O
Americans have cold winters. That's insane, that's more than what Little Sister had to wear when she was training for the Ten Tors the other week.
I'm thinking Quincunx lives in Western Europe (am I wrong in remembering the Ireland was mentioned once or twice? Maybe delusional?) so all that Super Layering shouldn't be all that needed unless she Extremely Far Up North in the Sweden/Finland/Norway area. Or the Alps. Or parts of Eastern Europe.
Really, when I layer up it's t-shirt, jumper, jacket and that's about all. Bulkiness, I think, is an intrinsic part of layering; I know Little Sister looked a bit of a plonker when she was all done.
I find myself all little disheartened today. Decided to watch Hellboy II after constant demands from the Koorlykin, and I thought, "Eh, why not, I've heard it's not bad. That there's Irish mythology, some kind of Epic Fantasy Battle, creepy white haired pretty boy/girl twins and robots. Looks interesting."
The white haired pretty boy villain was not pretty. Or all that white haired. He was however, male, and a villain. His battle armour was also extremely vaguely Asian. Looked a bit like Japanese samurai armour crossed with stereotypical Chinese warrior armour. He, he was boring. Almost, but not quite sympathetic; I could see his angle and it's even a logical reason to go to war. Humans broke a treaty! But why was it so boring?
There was no war. The Tooth Fairies were brilliant, but all the rest of the action was a massive letdown.
I'm not going to touch on how mangled the mythology was . . . but it was. Badly.
And what was the point in suddenly introducing the Abe/Creepy Twin Girl romance halfway through the film? It should have been upsetting or gut wrenching, but for the sake of all things, even Abe got over it in a blink. Way to snap the emotional bonds.
The German Ghost Guy was cool though.
But really, this film was so okay it's average. Average characters, some great ideas were toyed with, but never panned out or explored in great detail. I even knew knew from Abe's first encounter with Elf Girl he'd fall in 'love' with her and that, doomed Good Psychically Linked Twin that she was, she was doomed to die.
I'm more annoyed about that Tinkerbell movie I watched. Don't even know why I did. With that film I knew what was going to happen from about ten minutes in.
Also: Tinkerbell has been mutilated beyond reason. And she's a tart, but she always has been that.

I'm pretty sure that there are fairies who are more interesting than Tinkerbell now. I mean Tinkerbell was more interesting as a prank pulling pixie than a division of girl-based demographics.
I can think of at least two other fairies from video games who have more interesting characteristics than Tinkerbell. One is annoying and the other is a ditz who freezes frogs and has a meme surrounded by an easy to avoid attack.Yet another Touhou fan in the playground.

I think with all the gay subtext surrounding Peter Pan and his gang that Tinkerbell should have been a real tucked-in kind of fairy with enormous hair.
Heh. Tart. I love that word.
Especially when Eddie Izzard says it.

Re: Il'deav Ilah'naie's Indiscreet Intimacies on Indigo Iceboats Random Banter #135
I was annoyed as soon as Tink spoke her first words. Her attitude was way more prevalent in the Peter Pan movie's then it is now. They had opportunity too show it much more too, but didn't. It seems like they couldn't have left well enough alone with it. Oh, and don't get me started on all the other Fairies. Terrible balance of personality mix with the lot of them.
Also on the Disney movie note - the Princess & the Frog is your stereotypical film. It fits all the tropes, but still had plenty of quick witted humor wrapped up in it to make it enjoyable. I'm not certain how well that will carry across the pond with the culture being set in New Orleans, but since your a Disney fan Curly, you'll catch quite a few little snippets in the film. I would say go into it expecting a warm fuzzy. There's nothing new to blow your mind, but all the classic Disney comes true in it making it cozy and comfy for us fans.

Re: Il'deav Ilah'naie's Indiscreet Intimacies on Indigo Iceboats Random Banter #135
The trick here is to put the insulation on the right places. Think about your feet, hands and head. Buy some good boot and gloves. The boots should have a thick sole. The gloves should be skiing gloves which has an elasic rim that locks tight around your forearm. This is to keep snow from getting into your glove then you fall on skies, but it also keeps the wind out. A jacket with a insulated hood that can be tightened around the face or a ski mask should keep your neck and head warm.
With this on you will not need that much insulation on your body. The outermost layer should be windproof, of cause.

Re: Il'deav Ilah'naie's Indiscreet Intimacies on Indigo Iceboats Random Banter #135
We find that having less of our bundling focused on our torsos alone helps, which is why we favor longcoats, since they give us sleeker profiles rather than looking all bunched up by having several shirts'n'sweaters on and only longjohns and bluejeans on our lower bodies.
Also, the current Quincunxian canon is that we're dealing with the Land of Ire.

^: Aww, what happened to your holiday spirit? Well, just make sure to keep him away from mirrors. We have had bad experiences with suicidally aggressive Beta Fish, especially the males.
We sometimes do, but only with certain films. Research is currently still being conducted to determine what it is about them that causes such paralysis.
We found a poem written on cardboard. Very unusual...

I know what you mean. I do not do it with movies, but with videogames. Used to do, actually, when I was younger and before I reflected about how video-games consumed my life. But there was a time when I had to complete all the games I played at the maximum (100%) and of course I expected a big boon for it. Which generally never came, just stupid powers and insignias and stuff. I mean, for all that effort they should include an extra level or something. Psychonauts had a fun little video though.

Re: Il'deav Ilah'naie's Indiscreet Intimacies on Indigo Iceboats Random Banter #135
Tinkerbell was amazing, she didn't have a line of non-Faerie dialogue and yet you knew exactly what she was saying (well, you knew what was being implied) and she was a geniunely sympathetic character with her her redemption death/near-death experience.
Peter Pan Tinkerbell had body language and attitude, plus she looked really pretty and was, I don't know, she seemed like an adult.
In this film she seemed like a really young to mid-teenager, and was such a stroppy infant. I couldn't really like her.
Her 'friends' were pretty bland except the blue Water Fairy. She seemed like a spaced out hippie chick, which I quite liked.
I hate you.
I'd heard of the film and so I went to TVTropes. At six o'clock. The time is now twenty to midnight, I've managed to cut my TVTrope tabs down to a mere two; but I';ve also remembered that there was a fan-mod for Civ IV that I was told about by a uni friend that runs the game on a fantasy setting.
And I really want to download it, especially as with that mod you don't need the disc for it which is a good thing as he lives somewhere near Nottingham.
So I can see all my holidays spiralling down into the addictiveness that is Civ IV. Just one more turn indeed!
First time I played it, the very first time I was on it for almost eight hours and I didn't realise!
Also I now want to play either Neverwinter Nights or one of the Elder Scrolls games. This is bad.
On the plus side The Princess and the Frog look really rather interesting, so I'll see about watching that soon. Unless I become entrapped in addictive games.
