Batman glares at the fallen vigilante. Gordan already told him about the new guy in town. The one who had been dropping criminals down elevator shafts and off buildings. If there is one thing Batman stands for it is preserving life at all costs. "No you are nothing like me. You are an animal you kill your prey. I won't let anyone get away with that in my city."

Unfortunately his lecture to Rorasach gives Joker the time to get away. Another wasted night. Or maybe not... "I'm going you one chance. You come with me and let me show you how we do things in Gotham or I give you to Gordan to escort down to Arkham."

"I don't think you heard me correctly, young man. I said, put the guns away." Raising his sonic screwdriver, the irate Time Lord causes the magazines to drop out of Mask's guns. "There, that's much better. Youth these nights..."

The man who calls himself Wednesday parks the car, and gets out. He stretches, adjusts his suit, then walks towards a bar. A neon sign that only two of the letters actually work stands above the door, and there are bars on the dirty windows. "Come with me." He said, in a tone that demanded obedience.

    DR.CRANE
Dr.Crane says nothing as he follows the man; if the man wanted to think Crane actually worked for and respected him so be it. He was happy to be in his city and was already making plans to restore his power base and crush those annoying 'Cullens.'
    Rorasach
Strange bat-man attacked me and saved clown. He defends all the slime that run through this city and corrupt it; he offers me either Asylum or to work with him. "I'll come with you; you can see how the filth should be handled."

Batman smirks slightly at that. "We'll see."

With the press of a button on his utility belt the Batmobile drives around the corner. Batman cuts the string of the bolas so Rorasach can follow him. "Get in the car. We've got a lot of work to do tonight."

The man who called himself Wednesday sat down at the mostly deserted bar, catching the barman's eye straight away. Turning to Crane, he asked, in a slightly different voice "Do you like mead?" Before the professor could answer, he nodded to the barman, who went to the backroom to arrange it.
"Now, let's discuss the terms of our little contract." Wednesday said, sounding somewhat professional again. "You work for me. I'll pay you... five thousand a week? As to benefits... I'll arrange accommodation, any supplies you want, and any test subjects you need. I'll keep you off the radar, and keep you safe from your enemies. In return, you do what I tell you. You drive my cars, arrange my meals, kill if I tell you to, and do what I say. And, if one of us f*cks up and something does happen to me, you hold vigil, and once that's out of the way, make sure the Cullens are all dead." He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a thick wallet. "Agreed?"

"Agreed." Dr.Crane says, shaking the man's hand, "So what will be our next move? The 'Cullens' weren't exactly subtle or intelligent people; they've probably ended up in one of the well-known locations by now, thinking they can handle the 'ordinary psychotics' who walk the Gotham Streets."

Wednesday smiled. "Drink your drink." He says, gesturing at the slightly frosted glass in front of Crane. "Mead tastes like piss, which is frankly why it took me so long to find a place that actually sells the stuff, but rituals are important." With that, he drains his glass down to the foamy dregs and puts it aside.
"Now, our next move is patience. Believe me, I do this sort of thing for a living, and simply going after them like a second rate axe murderer will either get us killed, or make them scatter, and we'll be back at square one." He says. "So we wait. Any confidence man can approach the mark, but an artist gets the mark to approach him." He says. "So drink your drink, ask me anything your curious about, who I really am, why I'm doing this, whatever, and we'll see what we shall see."

"Fine." Crane says, drinking the glass; he doesn't drink often because he frankly can't hold alcohol to save his life, but if this man insists... "While the fact that you'd offer to tell me anything IS interesting, I feel it would just be best to say what you feel comfortable saying." Dr.Crane let's the lines spill out soothingly; it's best to work for people you've already given a psych profile too.

Wednesday smiles. "Ever the doctor, aren't you? Well, analyze this. I’m the man who can walk into a bank without a cent to my name, and walk out rich as anyone with the clerks holding the door open for me. I can make anyone listen to me, great and small, and make them do as I say. I can have any woman I choose, I can win any fight, and I can get anything I want with ease. And you can call me Wednesday." He puts the wallet on the table. "Arrogance, narcissism, perhaps a god complex, and serious egotism, right Crane?" he continues. "Except, you're probably thinking, how much of it is idle boasting? After all, I don't fit the usual profile for the deluded, and based on what I've done so far, I seem to actually able to do as I say. That right so far?" He continued. "So am I a metahuman who thinks he's a god? A confidence man whose better at putting up walls then you are at taking them down? Or something else?"

Wednesday got to his feet. "I'll leave it to you to puzzle out." Palming something, he suddenly brought his hand to his face. "My eye!" He exclaims, shock and worry mingling in his voice almost comically. Getting on his hands and knee's he stared around seemingly worried. "It's gone!"

Batman gets in the car after Rorasach. He preses a few buttons on the side of his steering wheel and then begins to talk with no sign that anything had actually happened. "I had to pick up that psychotic amatuer Gordan was talking about I lost the Joker. What do you have for me Oracle?"

A female voice comes from all sides within the car. "Nothing particularly of note. Could have just been his idea of joke. You know what his jokes did to me after all."

"Easy on the personal information Oracle. New guy remember."

"Of course. Wait the Cullens that new rich family that moved into Gotham. Seems the father and mother are listed among the casualties of his bombing. Could they have been targets?"

    "Possibly. Where were they taken?"

"Gotham General. Wait these medical reports. They aren't human and they don't confirm to any known form of metahuman. Star Labs is being called in as we speak you're going to have to hurry if you want a chance to question them."

"On it Oracle. Send Cassandra and Tim on patrol in my place."

    "No problem Batman. Oracle out."

"We're going to the hospital then. What is your name soldier?"

The stolen car was left abandoned outside Gotham Centeral Hospital. The Joker hadn't even bothered to park it, he'd simply left it in the center of the road and walked into the hospital. Harley was no where to be seen, busy readying another mode of transportation for the trip back to base.
Joker, after much consideration, had washed off his makeup, and swapped his clothing for a slightly blood stained suit the previous owner of the vehicle had worn. And it worked, as everyone saw his face as the make up, not the flesh, blood and skin beneath it. And while his Glasgow smile was shudder worthy, it was far less liable to cause comment then The Joker.
Making his way into the hospital, armed with six knives of various types, a fully loaded automatic that had been manufactured in Stark Enterprises, a few devises customized by his own warped genius, and something that Lexcorp was waiting another decade before they sold it to the military.
Coming into the pristine, sterilized hospital, he tried to locate new arrivals on a map, shuddering at the white walls and floor, the tiles and ceiling. No imagination.

    Rorasach
"Rorasach. Partner you work with?" He worked with woman named Oracle; handles information apparently. Case involving a Cullen family who aren't human- something called Metahuman.
    Dr.Crane
"You're telling me all of this as if you're profiling yourself; that means you ARE most likely sane; despite what people claim. Narcissism is right out because you've only just mentioned your own abilities which hints at self-control. Arrogance and Egotism are annoying quirks, but likely not un-founded and clearly in check. If I'm going to be profiling you then you are most definitely sane, and most likely a Meta-human of exceptional ability who's honed his powers over a long span of time and you throw up jokes and mild boast to throw people off the real track implying Paranoia, something to hide, or both." Dr.Crane says simply; sometimes he can't refuse a challenge, but those were only the basics. Sometimes you have to keep SOMETHING hidden.

Wednesday nods. "You are good." He says, eyes betraying nothing, after talking to the barman, explaining that his glass eye is laser carved blue quartz, absolutely irreplaceable, and loudly proclaiming he'll gladly pay two thousand dollars for it's return, as well as handing over a business card that proclaims him to be a successful financial advisor. "So, based on your easy assessment of human nature, you of course realize what we're going to do. We're going to circulate a video of the policeman we have in the back being tortured by an easy to identify but hard to locate agency. The girl, distraught, will come to me, on the understanding I'll find him for her. Once that is out of the way, I'll insinuate myself into their lives, on the understanding of figuring out the agency's motives and thus help me find their location, and take them off one by one. All we really need to do is invent, or appropriate, an enemy. Any suggestions?"

I suggest we use Zaazz's; he'll want Bella enough to agree and he should still be out of Arkham." Dr.Crane says simply.

    Rorasach

"You're not from around here are you. Oracle handles intelligence for almost every superhero on the planet. Rorasach, that explains the shifting mask. You're going to need to repair it or get a new one though. Looks like the Joker tore it. Never let them hurt your motif, it scares them, give you an edge over the superstisious cowardly criminal element" Batman takes this all into consideration. To truly have not heard of Oracle he either had to be very new or somehow completely out of touch with the rest of the masked vigilante world.

Batman looks out the window as they pull up to the Hospital. He sees the Joker's stolen car and quickly reopens the com channel to Oracle. "The Joker is here where are the Cullens being treated."

"Special Treatments. Floor 5. Room 525. Third window on the right from your position."

"Good." Batman turns to Rorasach "Do you have means of rapeling up a building?"

    ***

    Joker

In the rush of intake from the explosion he had just caused downtown it would quickly become apparent that new intakes are being skipped past the ER and moving straight to the separate sections for their injuries. Which means the Cullens as metahumans would likely end up in the special treatment ward.

Wednesday nods. "Alright then. We're done here." With that he lifts himself out of his seat and looks around one more time, apparently for his eye. At last he joins Crane in the car, moving Charlie aside, then sprawling over the backseat. "Find a townhouse, not not so expensive that anyone will notice, but not cheap either. We're going to need a respectable front."

He stretches as he waits for the car to start. "We'll find Zsasz tonight after we settle down. You're a university lecturer who recently got offered to e made Dean at Gotham Catholic university, and I'm your father, a retired architect. We're moving here because I need supervision and you need to be closer to your workplace."

    Joker
The Joker swaggers over to the special treatment ward, moving quickly but not hurriedly, oozing confidence.
Quickly killing a nurse who asked to many questions, he made his way to the fifth corridor, fifth floor. He knew he had perhaps a few minutes to work before Batman showed up and ruined his fun. If he had a bit more time he would have arranged an explosion on a lower floor, probably the children ward, as a distraction, but he didn't have the time. Retrieving his gun from his inside pocket, he kept it against the folds of his suit, then made his way over to a likely looking nurse holding a clipboard, leaning against a trolley.
Sticking the barrel in her face he sneered "Where are the Cullens? Trust me, I'm family."

"Fine." Dr.Crane answered, both in response to the false background and to the request for a townhouse. "Shouldn't be too hard; although I'm not sure that no one will recognize me; even with my trip away this place doesn't forget it's nightmares quickly."

"Then we have to hurry before the Joker gets to them." Batman jumps out of the Batmobile and fires his grappling gun at the ledge just beneath the third window to the right. It retracts pulling him up to the window which he smashes open with ease, making a mental note that Bruce Wayne needs to make a large donation to the hospital later this week.

Seems he picked the wrong nurse. Since this one just smiles into the bullet. She carries herself with an stature of someone who is more than human but ashamed of it. None the less her movements are fluid. Upon closer inspection her Nurse's outfit is fake. "Oh you must be one of this city's many psychopaths. I was just about to go kill them myself but you are free to join me."

I quickly followed the bat-man into the hospital and walked alongside him and decided I needed a few answers,"I've seen your city; it's a whore controlled by mental defect and fear, not unlike New York in the riots. Why should we spare those who fill the gutters with blood?"

Wednesday shrugs. "Power thing, sex thing, same difference." He snorts, stretching again.

    * * * * *

The Joker looks at her for a long time, then lowers the gun. "Alright then." He says. He'll kill the ones he's already started on, then deal with her. Walking into the room, he closes the door, with exaggerated care, replacing his gun into his inside pocket.
"I tried fire." He says, conversationally. "So I suppose I'll try chemicals."

"It is NOT about power; it's about accomplishment and knowledge, it's about getting into someone's head and understanding what they fear which, in turn, in riches an understanding of the human mind. I'm a man of science." Dr.Crane says; he's heard the analogy in many of his Arkham sessions, except for one memorable psychiatrist who's note had claimed he wasn't insane, but simply evil. That was wrong, but closer than the rest.

"Because all lives are sacred and people can change." Batman explains as they climb through the window and into the room where the Cullens lie unconsious on their beds.

"Unconsious. We won't be getting any answers out of them right now but the Joker should be showing up any...." before Batman can finish off his sentence the Joker and his not Nurse, maybe hostage enter the room.

"See I told you. I'd lead you right to those monsters." she says as she enters the room.

    Rorasach Journal
I was about to answer bat-man when the clown and some accomplice arrived. I turned to him, "Men can change; dog's like him? Get put down." Rorasach dashed forward and, hoping to get the element of surprise, slid past the nurse in an attempt to slam his fist into the clown's face.

The Joker smiles, the fist catching him in the nose in a spray of blood and cartilage. It's enough to make his eyes water, but he doesn't even flinch, simply slamming up his right leg like a piston between Rorsarch's legs, then grabbing a trolley and hurtling it into him. hopefully with enough force to knock his assailant over, or at least buy the clown enough space to breather and formulate a strategy.

    Wednesday.
The old conman nodds. You can't tell if he's convinced or not, he's damned difficult to read. "If you say so. So what's this about then?"
