Need help with art class!
So, I'm in the tenth grade in the Norwegian School system. I'm not a native English speaker, so I don't know any other way to explain this, but this is the last semester before I graduate and I use these grades to apply into secondary school, and the grades this semester is very important.
Now, the problem is that we have this project in art class, and I have absolutely no idea what to do. In this project we are suppose to show our best work and make a product. We can make anything we want, with some exceptions. To expensive for the school, to large, to hard to make or to long to make.
There is three categories which I can chose from.
- Either make something out of wood
- Something out of textile
- Or something you can hang an a wall (picture, painting, etc, etc)
But I have no idea of what to make! I can't think of anything that I can make and I have to decide before Friday!
And that's what I need help with. I can't think of what to make and I hope that you can help me with some ideas and maybe some guidance?Avatar by Smuchmuch, drawn during the DYF-event. Thanks!

Re: Need help with art class!
What are you good at making? Are you best at woodworking, painting or textile work?

Re: Need help with art class!
Go with the default artist choice and just do a self-portrait. I can be realistic, fantastical, stylized, or abstract.

If you go with textiles, nothing is easier than making a pillow. Or a dice bag.

Re: Need help with art class!
You seem pretty good with computer art, you could easily make an image on your program of choice and have it printed in canvas, than you could work around with that canvas, give it a nicer wooden frame with carvings on the side, paint the frame, and then make some nice sort of nice hanging royal banner for both sides and use a needle or a nail to hang them on the side. I effectively combines the three ideas and is easy once you get the essentials done.

No, it isn't magic, it's obviously mind control. We only think the thread has been moved.

Excuse me if I'm wrong, but he appears to be wearing armor and wielding weapons that a wizard wouldn't be capable of using. Unless you're accusing him of being a bard?

Re: Need help with art class!
You can make avatars. While it may take a good amount of time and a lot of patience, go absolutely insane making an original bit of computer-graphics artwork into a hangable picture. I know more about my congressman's chainmail dicebag than I do about Norwegian schools, but I assume you have printers.

Sometimes I make avatars too. Shoot me a PM if interested.

He's so much of a wizard he can get past that rule. Heck, he's so much of a wizard he's somehow found a way for me to derail this thread. He's working his magic through me.
Back on topic, any life study would be best if your seriously stumped. Just pick some object(s) and do a still life or a landscape. Or, if you can find someone to sit still long enough a portrait (or self portrait as I said before).

Re: Need help with art class!
I think we are missing the main point.
If you want the upmost, ultimate overachieving grade, at the cost of your sanity, sleep and board lurking/posting time go with my project.
If you want a decent easy grade go with Dr. Epic, if you put enough effort into it, you might get high grades.
If you want fun, go to Mr. Saturn Devian Art page. he has tutorials for some knitting stuff, remember to thank and praise him while there if you do go for your project. Depending on your teacher this can either get you an overachieving grade or a decent FUN grade. The Iron Avatarist Crypt of Fame - Exorcising photobucket from the historic archives of the forum.

Re: Need help with art class!
Ok, so yesterday I talked to my teacher about some of the ideas I got here. She said that some of the ideas were to simple to get a good grade and that araveugnitsuga's idea was to hard. That is was hard to make the frame and that it would take too long. So I could use any of the ideas
Then last night my brother-in-law told me that I could make a Sackboy(from Little Big Planet, if anyone wonders) and I thought that may work. I found a couple of videos in youtube where it would show you how to make one, and I thought that it looked easy and may be possible. Anyway, today at school I talked to my teacher about the idea and she still said it might be too hard for me to make
I have now the weekend to decide if I want to go on with this project or choose something else. What do you think?Avatar by Smuchmuch, drawn during the DYF-event. Thanks!

Re: Need help with art class!
How long do you have to work on, and what sort of resources? And, of course, what are you interested in?
The closest I've had to a class like this was VCE (year 11 and 12, Australian system) Studio Arts. We had a whole year and pretty extensive resources including the wood- and metal-work facilities, but here are some of the things done in that class:
I carved a snake out of wood in pieces, painted it, and glued it onto a board painted and with a piece of rippled glass on top to look like water, so it looks like a snake swimming through water. It's in a coffee table now.
A friend painted pictures on animal skulls.
Another friend did a montage of cemetary photos.
A few girls made dresses - some of them actually very lovely, and one wore hers to the year 12 formal.
Um... I can't remember what else anyone did, but there was a variety of paints, textiles, and scuptures.
A pop-art style blown-up version of oots-style stuff would actually be pretty cool, although I'm not sure if your teacher would appreciate it. You wouldn't need to make a frame or anything, though. Just get a square canvas or several, the sort that is stretched over its own frame. You could do one really big picture, spread over a whole lot of canvases to be hung up all together to make a whole pop-arty picture. It wouldn't have to be oots style, either - take a smiley face, paint it over, say, 9 or 16 canvases, put it all together, and say it's a commentary on the commercialised optimism of the modern status quo.The Iron Avatarist Hall of Fame!
