I concur. If the lines are cleaned up it is perfectly clear in the small size and colors would likely help too. At least when applied by someone as good at applying them as you are.

And in a fit of shameless excitement and egocentrism, i will be going on a trip to Kansai, since i'll be based in Osaka but go to both Kyoto and Nara, and Tokyo in late July. Do you have any recommendations for what to see, do or eat while there?

I know Kyoto very well. It is sad, but many buildings are 'reconstruction' right now, but so many temples are to be seen, so it is ok.

Maybe too many, please choose what you like:

Kiyomizudera,清水寺 Kinkakuji　金閣寺, Nanzenji　南禅寺,　Nijou Castle　二条城, Kokedera (Saihouji)　西芳寺

Please also go to Arashiyama　嵐山

One of my friends once went to Japan for a school excursion... he did Japanese in school. His mum also lived there for a while, as well.

I've only been to China, Singapore and Thailand out of Asian countries.

Presumably, there is some vast difference between the deer I am familiar with and the ones you know, if only in behavioral patterns. So I have to ask, what's up with the deer?

(The deer I know are only mean in the sense that they'll eat your garden and jump in front of your car... in terms of interaction, they flee if you blink at them.)

Thanks, Kasanip. I will keep the recommendations in mind, though admittedly many of them are just repeats of what travel guides have been saying. Still good to hear a second opinion recommending them, though. And sorry about barging into your thread with this like that.

And i doubt i will be hitting the night life, Moon Wolf. Abstaining from alcohol makes that kind of pointless.

The deer in Nara are used to humans and used to humans having food for them. Makes them a bit more assertive than deer who think you are carrying a rifle and want to kill them. One of my friends was in Japan some years ago and had pictures of people being driven to stand on the table at a café because the deer were so pushy. It was kind of fun to see, but i wouldn't have been in their shoes.

On the sketch: I can kinda-sorta see it, but I'm not sure if they're actually too short, or my brain/eyes just think they are. It's hard to catch at first glance.

Foreshortening's well done. Not entirely sure what's going on with the pose, but that might be because I don't know exactly what she's wearing so I'm not sure what her legs are doing. It's either a little oddly balanced, or capturing her mid-movement...?

"Nara Deer" are very used to people, but they aren't pets. You should please be careful about approaching or touching because they can have dangerous behaviors too.

May to July is childbearing time.

To protect the child deer, mother deer will approach and attack with their front legs, it's dangerous. Please don't approach or touch the child deer.

September to the end of November is mating time.

Because Male deer become very spirited, it is dangerous. Naturally the deer with horns and the deer with cut horns please don't approach.

Deer often make traffic accidents by leaping into traffic.

In Nara Park dogs will try to chase deer, who will leap into the roads to escape. People who drive car or ride bicycles should please be alert and careful.
