Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXXI - The Gift of Fish
That's for object placement on the layer. Multple layers are different.
Apparently it helps when you're working off a reference, as you can trace it without moving the reference around. Also, some people make a layer for background, a layer for all the objects, and a layer for lightning effects.
I personally stick to one layer. >>

I'm with Shades of Gray on this one. One layer for the win. No mucking around.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXXI - The Gift of Fish
Having multiple layers helps me delineate the amount of work to be done on a comic. I usually have Background, Layer 1, Frames, Dialogue as my layers. The recent map I made of Arcania has by far the most layers, almost a layer for each element type (Including rivers, different kinds of cities, and such).

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXXI - The Gift of Fish
I use multiple layers. Makes things much easier, mostly because background/speech balloons don't get in the way of posing characters and such.
Generally I have 4 layers: Background, Characters (this includes objects as well, I just call it Characters anyway), Panels (frames), and Text.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXXI - The Gift of Fish
I never really bothered with several layers, just adds more work in my opinion.
I just group the background items together when I'm finished with it, same effect.Treasured Quotes

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXXI - The Gift of Fish
Multiple layers are where it's at. I usually have one layer for the panels/background, and then one to two more for the background details such as grass, shrubs and other general background stuff. Then there's a layer for speech bubbles and another layer for text.
Then there are the characters, which tend to use roughly 15-25 layers each. I keep every part of a characters body on a separate layer.

-clothes

-body
-arm1
-boots
-legs
and so on.
My first few FFF:R comics had over 150 layers each.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXXI - The Gift of Fish
I usually just have one established layer. Yeah it's not as neat as it could be, but I'm lazy.

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXXI - The Gift of Fish
Right, given that Lying isn't in best sorts my options I believe narrow down to:
- Play as Lying until his mentality overtakes him
- Recover the Silan unit from somewhere on the ocean floor
- Bring back a very old leader from the dead
- Convince a dead shaman to intervene where the living are having trouble

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXXI - The Gift of Fish
I ususally use 3 layers. They are titled: "Background", "Characters", and "Dialog". However, if the need arises, I add in one or two more under "Effects" or "More Effects".

Re: ABR Discussion Thread XXXI - The Gift of Fish
School, mostly. Grades suck and i need to fix them. Then there was a volunteer thing my parents had me sign up for, a job, scholarship stuff, an evaluation of my mental health, a survey project for arbitron...
(When I say 'much later' i mean a few days.)
... ya know, it doesn't sound near as bad on paper.Last edited by Kumo; 2010-02-10 at 06:47 PM.

Hey guys, guess what time it is? That's right...it's shameless self-promotion time!
Xartyve2 and I are doing a collaborative webcomic (yes, another one). It's called Full Circle. Check it out.
