Janos opens the door and there is a faint electronic beep just before there is an explosion that shreds the remains of the door .... and Janos takes 6 BODY and is thrown back against the far wall of the hotel, breaking a table and a vase as he drops to the ground surprised. (He takes STUN too, as does Donovan, but that is irrelevant for now.)

The hotel sprinklers go off in the hallways, and the hotel fire alarm sounds. Janos is very bloodied and hurt. Nothing seems to come out after you. What do you do?

Crane will rush to his side and look over his wounds. That was quite a punch. You need medical attention. We should get you to a hospital.

Meanwhile, you both are getting bathed by the sprinkler and the high-pitched, ear-piercing noise of the hotel fire alarm is chirping away.

Janos, from your position on the floor, you see within the room where a table was knocked off its legs. On the floor next to this is a scored (from the blast) plexiglass box with what looks like a letter inside it.

The OIC patches you through to Director Moch. (I'm going to make some quick decisions so as not to prolong this too much.) He'll ask you if you can move (yes, you can .... but it hurts).

He'll ask if you still have a room, and to go in there to try to minimize the loud feedback from the fire alarm.

Make a quick search for clues .... there's the plexi-glass box that you wrap in a pillowcase as a makeshift to keep from ruining prints.

In the meantime, he'll also direct HCPD to send ambulance to expect you, and for the local Homeland Security to meet you at the hotel and escort you. Considering the noise, distractions and your own pain, he'll send Hardpoint to fly down there with an ETA of about 1.5 hours, to meet you at the hospital.

Taking note of the fact that he didn't mention me either time and seeing that he is already up and moving about, has called for medical attention and back up, I will trust his discretion and say It seems it may be safer for you to come see me once you get this ironed out. Thank you for your discretion. Look me up at this address. Then quickly jots down 57 Karlsruhe Strasse (will give actual home address here) on a slip of paper he finds laying next to a pen blown out into the hall and embeded in the wall. Glad I ducked. See you soon. Then dashes out, changes to Cloak and leaves as quickly and discreetly as possible.

Janos scrambles outside, actually finding someone good-hearted fellow that comes to help him down to the ambulance that is pulling up with the police and fire department. As badly as he is wounded, he'll definitely need hospitalization, but he's enough of a trooper to give a basic rundown of what happened .... that there was a bomb in his room rigged to explode when he opened the door, and that you have evidence ... but considering that you are an HS-R agent (Homeland Security: Redeemers), HomeSec now is going to take over the investigation. HCPD cordons off the scene and waits for the FBI to begin collecting evidence, and in turn an HSR agent is en route.

Several hours later, Janos is woken up from a drug-addled sleep. Hardpoint is there. "How are you, Janos? You're just a magnet for exploding things, aren't you? FBI kept the scene from contamination until I could arrive, and then I analyzed the scene. Shape charge on the door, designed to specifically blow outwards when it opened. Chemical analysis is (____science gobbledygook___), which is consistent with the commonly used charge from the very man you were sent to investigate here in Hudson City: Death's Messenger, who most likely blew up part of City Hall last week.

"No prints, of course. The problem is the evidence you collected. It was a strong plexi-glass cube that was melted shut so that when the area explosion hit it, it would be scored but not destroyed. Inside was a note ..."

I wanted to see that idiot O'Hannigan for some time now. I tried to get him to play with me, but he didn't take me seriously. I knew I'd get your attention at the hotel, and unless I've overestimated you, you are in a hospital right now instead of a morgue. Now that the Harbinger of Justice is dead, I need someone with some smarts with whom to have fun. You look like a steroid-idiot, but maybe you'll surprise me. So, here is what we're going to do ...."

I am going to target scum. You can stop me, and play your part. Or, you can let numskull criminals - the real 'bad guys' - die as they should. What will you choose?

"I imagine your injuries carry over at some level to your superhero form. So, you don't get to have 24 hours bedrest for this one. I've wired the bar that Proud Mary owns to explode, and she is having a birthday party for one of her bikers ... so many moron motorheds [sic] will be there. The bomb will go off at noon today, but the party starts at eleven. You must find the bomb and try to disarm it. But, you can't bring anyone else to help you ... except for that interesting superhero you met tonight. Any other agents come, any bomb squad, anyone try to call with a hardline, or even use cellphones in the area that give me the slightest suspicion, I blow the joint. Speaking of cellphones ... well, you know that protocol is to shut down all such communication and other wireless to the extent possible. In addition, even when you arrive on scene. Anyone leaving makes me blow the joint as well ... so you have to convince a bar full of hardened criminal bikers to listen to Johnny Law for their own good.

"Just you and me, Janos Gellewat [sic], and your sidkick [sic] from this evening. If he doesn't show, I blow the joint. If only you show, I blow the joint. If only he shows, and you are a coward and hide in the hospital or wherever you are receiving aid, I blow the joint. If you do not disarm the bomb by 1200, I ... well, by now, you get the idea."

Hardpoint says, "With the investigation at the hotel, we didn't think to look at the cube until an hour ago. And we took our time opening it because we wanted to make sure it would be pristine for clues. Well, once we read the note, we realized that we're racing against the clock. The time, right now, is 11: 07 am ... this party is supposedly already underway.

"Who's this other person he mentioned? Why didn't you report it? Do you know any way he can be contacted? If you don't know how to get in contact with him, a lot of people are going to die in 53 minutes ... maybe to include collateral damage and lives with surrounding areas. He takes you down to a car - standard black Crown-Vic with government plates. He turns on lights (those flashing ones that show through the grill, at the windshield (which has a shield so as not to flash the occupants), and the rear, and starts speeding off.

"Redeemer Agent en route to incident site," he says on a radio.

"Copy that," says a reply. "We've tried to make as much of a hole for you as possible, with 100-yard standoff."

Janos hands Donovan the letter. "Read this so you know why you've been dragged into this."

Sorry you've been named 'sidekick,' but this Death's Messenger guy seems to think I'm close enough to be trouble for him. Since we both have some blackety-black power that can make people run in terror, I think that might be a good option.
