Default Hot potatoes: Game finished - the pure won.

    Hi, all.

This is a silly game just for a bit of fun. 10 players only, please.

Every player starts off with a hot potato that has a certain property:

    Spoiler
    Show

Hot Potato of Corruption: Created by The Corrupter, they corrupt the recipient before reverting to their usual state. They do not have their usual effect for the recipient unless that is The Purifier. See below for more details.

Hot Potato of Purification: Created by The Purifier, they purify the recipient before reverting to their usual state. They do not have their usual effect for the recipient unless that is The Corrupter. See below for more details.

Hot Potato of Death: When passed on whoever was holding this hot potato dies. The only exception is night 1 when the original holder passes the hot potato on.

Hot Potato of Life: Protects the holder from the effects of the Hot Potato of Death.

Hot Potato of Mob Calming: If you are holding this potato during the day phase, you are immune from lynch.

Hot Potato of Testing: If you are given this hot potato, your status as corrupted or pure becomes publically known. The Corruptor is shown only as corrupted, and the Purifier is shown only as pure. If you are simultaneously given a Hot Potato of Corruption or a Hot Potato of Purification then the result returned will be that before being corrupted or purified.

Hot Potato of Vision: When you pass this hot potato on, the nature of the person you pass it to becomes known to you, determined in the same way as for the Hot Potato of Testing.

Hot Potato of Voiding: When you pass this hot potato on, or are holding it, none of the other hot potatoes operate at all. In addition The Corrupter and The Purifier cannot turn hot potatoes into corruption and purification potatoes.

Hot Potato of Chaos: Each time it is passed on it assumes the powers of another type of potato.

Hot Potato of Mutually Assured Destruction: If the player holding this potato is lynched the potato explodes killing one person who voted for the lynchee.

Hot Potato of Soul Synchronism: There are two of these. If a person holding one of these dies, the person holding the other dies too. This potato's effect always works regardless of Hot Potatoes of Voiding or being transformed into a Hot Potato of Corruption or Purification. A Hot Potato of Chaos cannot take on this form.

There may be none, one, or more of each type of hot potato during the game. If the number of hot potatoes in the game becomes too low due to someone who is holding a lot dying, then the narrator may inject new hot potatoes. New hot potatoes may also be added to the game for gits and shiggles at the discretion (or lack of) of the narrator.

Hot potatoes MUST be passed along every night phase. If a player fails to pass along the hot potato then they will die and the hot potato they were holding will be lost or randomly assigned to another player.

If a player is going to be away, PM the narrator with the next passing on of each of your hot potatoes, and post very publically in thread. Anyone trying to pass a potato to a player who is away will have it bounce and will die. Muhahaha!! Any player trying to pretend to be away for tactical reasons will be found guilty of cheating and publically humiliated in the main structured games thread and possibly banned or whatever the punishment for cheating is these days.

Players can hold more than one hot potato.

If a hot potato is passed to a player and the player dies that night then the hot potato is lost. Any hot potatoes held by a lynched player are lost.

The game has two power roles: The Corrupter (bad guy) and the Purifier (good guy) and everyone else is a villager.

When the corrupter passes on a hot potato it temporarily changes its nature to become a hot potato of corruption. The person it is passed to becomes corrupted. The Corrupter and his minions win when everyone is corrupted and The Purifier is dead. The Purifier is immune to being corrupted. The hot potato reverts to its natural state when next passed on.

Similarly any hot potato passed on by the Purifier temporarily becomes a purification potato. It will purify any corrupted villager turning them into a normal villager. The Purifier and normal villagers win when everyone is purified and The Corrupter is dead. The Corrupter is immune to being purified. The hot potato then reverts to it's natural state.

    Example:
    Spoiler
    Show

Night 2, The Corrupter passes the Hot Potato of Death (HPoD) to Anne. Anne becomes corrupted.
Night 3, Anne passes the HPoD to Bob. The Purifier passes the Hot Potato of Life (HPoL) to Bob. Anne will not die as the HPoD was in effect a Hot Potato of Corruption.
Night 4, Bob passes the HPoD and the HPoL to Charles. Bob then dies because the HPoL was in effect a Hot Potato of Purification.
Night 5, Charles will not die as long as he passes both Hot Potatoes onwards as the HPoL cancels out the effect of the HPoD.

If someone receives both a purification and corruption hot potato then the effects cancel out and the player is neither purified nor corrupted and remains unchanged.

Always play your current status as fully as you can. To do otherwise is cheating. So if as a villager you find out who The Purifier is and then get corrupted, you MUST do whatever you can to get The Purifier killed, i.e. publically announce their identity. If you subsequently get purified you must then try to protect the Purifier however you can.

    In for a crazy game.
Do we need to choose Potatotars?

You can only pass it on at night and only once?

Hot Potato of Death: When passed on whoever is holding this hot potato dies unless they also pass on the Hot Potato of Life (not necessarily to the same person).

The chances of getting the one of Life after you had the one of Death are pretty slim, no?

    If you like.

You can only pass it on at night and only once?
Yes. The next night you will have new potatoes to pass on (if you get given any).

Hot Potato of Death: When passed on whoever is holding this hot potato dies unless they also pass on the Hot Potato of Life (not necessarily to the same person).

The chances of getting the one of Life after you had the one of Death are pretty slim, no?
That's not quite how it works. If you are given BOTH the Hot Potato of Life and Hot Potato of Death then you won't die (unless you fail to pass one on). Essentially giving someone the Hot Potato of Life is equivalent to baning them. Giving them the Hot Potato of Death is equivalent to using a night kill on them.

    Bob: HPoD
    Jeff: HPoL
    Anne: HPoSE
    Mike: HPoSE

Night one, Bob passes to Anne, Jeff passes to Anne who passes to Mike. Bob then dies because he has had the HPoD.

    Jeff: HPoD
    Anne: HPoD, HPoL
    Mike: HPoSE

Night two, Anne passes both to Mike who passes to Jeff who passes to Anne. Anne does NOT die because she passed on the HPoL in the same night as the HPoD.

They are equivalent to a night kill and a bane. Pretty much the same as a standard WW game except the power gets passed around. Note that the corrupted players do NOT get a night kill.

No it doesn't disappear. I'll either give them as a couple or, more likely, give whoever gets the Hot Potato of Death a free pass for the first night.

Note that the HPoD can kill The Corrupter and The Purifier. If whoever gets lynched has either the HPoD or the HPoL then that hot potato is out of the game for the rest of the game.

Unless I feel like chucking it back in.

You'd think that, but as the number of players goes down the odds of getting baned instead of killed go up wouldn't they?

so you're saying if someone passes on a HPoD say I had it and gave it to JX then JX would die?

But if i kept it, then i die.

But if I had the HPoL and HPoD and gave them both to JX he lives.

But if i split them up he dies?

That seems a bit harsh, seeing as it's kill whoever pisses you off.

what happens if i pass a HPoD to JX but someone else passes a HPoL to him?

and what happens to the HPoD itself? I assume it would dissapear since the person died.

Assuming I understand the rules, if you pass the HPoD to JX and someone else gives him the HPoL he lives. And I think the HPoD disappears assuming that's the only HPoD in the game.

Yup. This is a quick silly fun little game, but if it turns out to be lots of fun someone can run a bigger game later. In theory it shouldn't be much quicker than a usual game of Werewolf Classic with 10 players.

    Yes.
    Yes.
No. Just like having a night kill.
    I don't die.
No. The person dies AFTER they pass on the HPoD. I really thought I made that clear in the rules. If you can think of a clearer wording, please let me know.

We have 12 people and as that's only just over 10 I'll let you in. It's only a fun game anyway.

Recruitment is now officially closed. Game will start once I've set up my spreadsheet and rolled everyone's roles and potatoes.

If I could think of any in time. Ideas for other potatoes will be welcomed for future games or maybe, for added fun, for this game.

It's been a great evening. Wine, beer, a bonfire on the beach. As you all pull your foil wrapped potatoes from the ashes your mouth waters in anticipation of the succulent flesh within, smothered with hot melting butter. However, when you unwrap your potatoes you find that they have...changed.

You take them home with you. Your dreams that night are filled with vivid dreams and you wake up with an idea of the special properties possessed by your potatoes - and also the danger! Hold onto a hot potato too long and you will die!!! You are also made aware of the presence of the sinister Corrupter. An being who seeks to warp the world to his own corrupted design.

The following morning you all meet up, a group of friends joined by a common experience, a common fate, a common fear. Can you find The Corrupter amongst you and rid yourselves of his corruption?

    Spoiler

Role PMs have been sent out. Please let me know if I missed you or it doesn't make sense. Thanks. Have fun!

I want this to be a fast fun game, so day 1 will end in approximately 24 hours, sooner if there is a clearly decisive lynch vote before then and no requests for more time (as if - this is day 1). Don't forget that if you lynch the Corrupter you will win the game day one. It's that easy. And if you lynch the poor sod with the Hot Potato of Death then lynches will be the only means of death.

I'm lost too ( I think he ate a bit of his potato) but nevermind, a bandwagon is born!

Well, since Supagoof isn't here for revenge via Spytrap, then revenge for WWX! Murska.

sooner if there is a clearly decisive lynch vote before then and no requests for more time (as if - this is day 1).

Ah hah. Actually that bit in bold only applies to the requests for more time, not the clearly decisive bandwagon bit.

On the grounds that more time is only useful if you actually have useful info to work with or cunning plots and strategies to work out that require replies from other people who may be in other time zones. Since this is day one and all points are random....
