I think the point, if there ever was one, was to hear the story from their perspective. Of course, why you can't just ask the people who're alive is beyond me. Some of the people here are quite intelligent, but tend to lose the original point as the discussion rambles on.

Also, the dragon is somewhat masking what his family did. (As best he can under the Zone of Truth). Or understating it. But the fight as the dragon states it is pretty much how the actual fight went.

The dwarf's alive and the halfling may be, but they're really old. And retired. Or they died adventuring. I really have no idea.

Probably got eaten alive by a army of CR 18 super-zombies (Eat DC 25 Will save or die instantly, cast on you like 80 times in the same turn because there's so damn many of them)

I kinda hope they were, dying because of those things is extremely exruciatingly painful.

Then again, it work just as well if they were eviscerated by that damn lizardman (CR 15 and my worst nightmare in any situation where i'm not epic level)

I actually had this idea in mind the second I read about the "Delayed Blast Fireball" entry on the d20 website. I needed a good way to kill the father dragon that would be both darkly humorous and demonstrate how ruthless these guys are.

I liked that you showed that the dragon father was indeed a crime lord and behaved as such, justifying threats, blackmail and racket as "reasonable" and treating anyone standing for what was right as deserving to be punished.
