Re: I want to be creeped out.
I recommend the book World Zero Minus. Sci-fi, but several creepy or disturbing stories in it.
For a quick-fix, though, one of my favourite stories:
A man wakes alone and frightened in the dark. Reaching for a match, one is placed in his hand. The Iron Avatarist Hall of Fame!

"The last man on earth sat in his room. The doorknob turned. "
That is kinda creepy, makes me wonder what is turning the doorknob. Could it just be his mind playing tricks on him? Who knows. In The End, We Are All Dead.

Re: I want to be creeped out.
I'm not a big horror-person so this is the only real ghost story I have memorized but it freaked me out big time when I first read it. Might have had something to do with it being really late at night, but here it goes:
A man on a business trip is checking into his hotel. He is given his room key and goes down the hallway to the elevator when he hears crying coming from the other side of the door of Room 13. Concerned, he looks through the keyhole and sees a pale, young woman in a dress sitting on her bed weeping. The man decides there is nothing he can do and goes on up to his room.
The next morning, he comes downstairs from his room and checks the keyhole of Room 13 again. This time, he sees no girl, no room, no nothing, just blank redness. So on his way out, he asks the person at the desk about Room 13.
"Oh, that room is haunted," the clerk explains, "A woman was on her honeymoon when her husband left her and never came back. Her ghost stays there to this day."
Intrigued, the man asks, "What does she look like?"
"Well, she's young and pale, she wears a wedding dress and she has glowing red eyes..."

Re: I want to be creeped out.
I had to read that one twice to get it. Missed the part about the eyes at first.

Re: I want to be creeped out.
My friend totally caught my attention with this. It creeped me out.
"Daddy, I had a bad dream."
You blink your eyes and pull up on your elbows. Your clock glows red in the darkness — it's 3:23. "Do you want to climb into bed and tell me about it?"
"No, Daddy."
The oddness of the situation wakes you up more fully. You can barely make out your daughter's pale form in the darkness of your room. "Why not sweetie?"
"Because in my dream, when I told you about the dream, the thing wearing Mommy's skin sat up."
For a moment, you feel paralyzed; you can't take your eyes off of your daughter. The covers behind you begin to shift. In The End, We Are All Dead.

Re: I want to be creeped out.
I didn't get the hotel one at first. I read Rutskarn's post, then in the process of re-reading it I was thoroughly unsettled by the horrific realization of what was going on... Quite a good one, once you get it.
I know a few good ol' Southern horror stories from down here in Mississippi. Too tired to tell 'em now, though. I'll write 'em tommorrow for you, though. I've got at least 3...Anemoia: Nostalgia for a time you've never known.

Re: I want to be creeped out.
This was one of my favourite creepy tales as a kid:
Once, there was a man who lived alone and every night he would go around his house and check all the doors and windows to make sure they were locked. One night after he checked the last door he heard a voice say, "Good, we're all locked in for the night."

Re: I want to be creeped out.
I've read a version of that (same source as my first one). From memory, mine is:
A man went to visit a friend of his in the country. It got late, and it was decided he would stay the night. As they discussed where he would sleep, it was mentioned that he certainly couldn't stay in a particular room. When he asked why, he was informed that it was haunted. The man scoffed, and insisted that he be given that room. His hosts reluctantly allowed it.
After the man was shown to his room, he became both a little creeped out, and suspicious of a trick. So, he went to the door, looked out into the hall, shut it, locked it, checked the closets, looked under the bed, and thoroughly examined the room. Satisfied that he was alone, he got into bed and turned out the lamp. At that point, a voice came from the ink pot on the desk with a satisfied sigh: "now we're locked in for the night."The Iron Avatarist Hall of Fame!

I know what you mean. I keep reading something about a Candle Cove. I can't tell if they are just trolling or if people really see the episodes. I don't get it. All I see is static. In The End, We Are All Dead.

Re: I want to be creeped out.
Huh. When I'm creeped out, the hair on my head stands on end. I hate that feeling. But the only thing that's caused that recently was an image of a mass infection with bot fly larvae. *shudders*

Re: I want to be creeped out.
I was always a fan of I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. But, that is more trippy sci-fi than creepy.
I have a hard time getting afeared so I'm a terrible judge. I love horror, though.
