    Default Interesting Transformers thing

Please note this is an American made transformers series (yes it's Transformers animated and I must admit it's pretty true to the original series in an odd way..)

I'm sure there is a story behind this opening.

The American opening for Transformers Animated was a series of clips scrolling by, with a remix of the G1 theme. I knew that.

...the Japanese opening was a complex, action-packed, movie quality animation with music by JAM Project.

    Wow.

And yet, I'm more surprised that the narrator didn't refer to himself as "Convoy, leader of the Cybertrons". They actually used the English names.

God that second trailer is an improvement.

Even though I doubt it'd sound nearly as good in English.

The American opening's song sounds nicely nostalgic. On the other hand, the Japanese one has JAM Project, and everything is better with JAM Project. And it's much more dynamic and everything.

Well, Zoids did. The question is which one - there are a ton of different continuities with installments set hundreds of years apart, and characters from different continuities tend to share names.

This is probably the closest you'll get.

Hmmm... you know, watching it over again, the opening is pretty spoilerific, showing for instance...

    Spoiler
    Show
Omega Sentinel in robot form, which was a pretty big reveal in the series

Also, random Arcee and Ironhide focus and copious lack of Sari.

Yeah, for people who've never seen the series, and even for those who have, the Japanese intro can be described as "Totally awesome".

Buuuuut, for those who have seen it that intro also comes off as completely ridiculous, hilariously so. I mean, it's so over the top cliche Japanese. Most of the stuff shown comes out of absolutely nowhere. For example, the intro shows Arcee, a school teacher who's in a catatonic state the entire series, engaging in epic battle with Black Arachnia for absolutely no reason other than probably because they're both fembots). Some characters shown prominently practically get more screentime in the intro than in the entire series put together, while the human characters who ARE prominent and important (and not annoying) are cut out. Of course there's also the over the top anime style fighting shown, when the series revolved around Autobots mainly using their wits to fight.

Not to mention the fact that it spoils pretty much every major plot and character reveal in the entire series.

Yeah, I like the original better. Japanese intro is awesome, no doubt about that. Derrick Wyatt himself loves it, but I'm glad we got the show we got.

Huh? TA's bots are basically "robotic superheroes", each with a power. To the point where Blackarachnia has Rogue's power and it works on everyone.

I mean, you have guys who shoot fire from their hands, a guy with a lance and shield made of energy, and expies of ChoRyuJin and Lagann.

    As for other op differences:

Transformers Armada (remix of G1 theme, followed by no op for the second half of the series) vs Transformers Micron Legend (1 and 2)
Transformers Energon (techno remix of G1 theme) vs Transformers Super Link (the Japanese op actually got used in the dub as well)
Transformers Cybertron (techno remix of G1 theme with Australian accent) vs Transformers Galaxy Force (1 and 2)

There seems to be a pattern here.

For anyone who was excited by the idea of JAM Project doing a Transformers op:

I never said they didn't. I was saying that Transformers Animated isn't about really flashy fight scenes since the Autobots were outmatched by the Decepticons most of the time and had to rely on teamwork and wit.

Yeah, pretty much. Starscream alone was able to fight pretty much all of the Autobots at once to a standstill.

And plot spoilers, a focus on characters that are barely in the show at all (like Ironhide). So while the music and choreography are nice, the "actually having to do with the show" part is severely lacking.

Know what I find interesting about the Transformers? The fact that they constantly forget they can fly in giant robot form.

Only Decepticons can fly in giant robot form, dude. Autobots don't have that technology.

odd, even without any sort of context I believe I'd be able to tell who were the bad guys and good guys regardless of the language used.

I thought both were equally effective.

Did the american one pre-date the Japanese one? The japanese one looks like it's using a lot of action scenes, which is typical of an imported work since there's already pre-made scenes to work with when putting together the intro*.

The american one looks like a typical cartoon opening*, lots of focus on the good guys getting their individual intros and the like.

    * IMHO, from what I've seen, I am not an [insert subject] critic and all that jazz

The American opening predates the Japanese one, yes. TFA is an American show.

However, the scenes shown in the Japanese opening are all original.

And many of them never happen at all. Blackarachnia versus Arcee, Ironhide doing much of anything, crazy shadow cloaked person*, Egypt, London, Washington, Sparkly Blue Prime....

A person having never seen the show wouldn't know what was a spoiler and what was just tossed in.

    * Though I suspect Cloaked Mystery Villain might be supposed to be Henry Masterson and/or the Headmaster unit

Eh, openings aren't expected to match the content of the show exactly. I mean, the original FMA had an opening where the Elric brothers fought some kind of swamp monster.

The second opening of the Fate/stay night anime had the Shirou vs. Archer fight from the Unlimited Blade Works route, even though the anime was based on the Fate route (where Archer is wounded by Saber at the start and thus never gets to carry out his plan).

Technically, I don't think "This person exists" is particularly a spoiler. Of all the things from later in the series, there is exactly one spoiler, and if you blink, you'll miss it.

In the underwater fight sequence, Ratchet is shown fighting Longarm Prime. He even has the Autobot symbol on his chest.

Yes, they show Shockwave, but only in his tank mode, and only in his true colors. The only way that could be telling that Longarm and Shockwave are one and the same is if, like us western fans, you already knew it.

They show both the ship and Omega Supreme, but they only show the nose of the ship, and only that one still of Omega. Again, not enough to draw a correlation between the two unless you already knew that Omega was the ship.

Yes, the show Iron- er, Armorhide and Arcee (They renamed Bulkhead Ironhide in the Jp dub), but you'd be hard-pressed to find a continuity that doesn't have those two.

One thing I did find amusing is that the ED has blacked out all examples of Megatron's Earth form, except for a single close-up of his head. Presumably, this will be until he actually shows up (kind of like in the Tenchi GXP OP, where Neiju(sp) was rendered in silhouette until she actually appeared).
