Dungeon Mapping Software
Is there any easy-to-use free dungeon mapping software available? I've tried Maptool but I can't make head or tail of it.
It's like an old steam train, but powered on insanity and pain.

Re: Dungeon Mapping Software
I was using one (can't remember what it's called, someone will probably mention it), but ended up just using Illustrator, instead.

1) GIMP is like Photoshop, but free. Go nuts.
2) The Cartographers Guild is your friend, & could be your lover.

Re: Dungeon Mapping Software
Dundjinni works pretty well [just search it on google], though it isn't free. It's basically modular so it works better on dungeons than outside maps...on the other hand, it can't rotate it's tiles all that well.

Re: Dungeon Mapping Software
You might wanna edit that, you can't talk about illegal activity on the boards.
Graph paper is your best friend. Unless you need it specifically for computers (for play to post or something). In that case, I would recommend either A) Finding a tutorial for Maptool or B) MS Paint.

Re: Dungeon Mapping Software
MS paint has been the most handy tool, easy to use, don't need to spend a few hours learning something new, and best of all my players never started to exspect great maps all the time :D
Of course I ended up getting lazy and using a dry erase board or pencil and paper (looked horrible but it works)... OH word of warning if you accidently mess up and make a small little room when you use pen/pencil and paper you player may spend 20-30 minutes trying to figure out why it is there -_-;;;; Even the ones that never heard about the Dreaded Gazebo....

Re: Dungeon Mapping Software
I like this site for doing the "drudge work" of actually drawing out rooms and corridors.
http://donjon.bin.sh/d20/dungeon/
It provides encounters and door/trap details too, but I tend to write my own in instead of using its (somewhat random) event generator.
