Hmm. What, mythologically speaking, stuns nerves? The design makes me think of honeycomb, some sort of bee?

I've heard of scrying, and aside from in DnD, the person is usually blind except for the vision itself. (it's done mentally)

Candle lexicon. The hexagons make sense now: beeswax. The tall top hat is probably for the tallow shape; unless Painted Eyes is hiding a wick under it.

Oh wait, scratch that. On a second reading, Candle Guy is Bobble Hat Man, not Painted Eyes. Painted Eyes is about freezing stuff. Makes more sense for what he did to Raoul's arm, but the symbolism of the hexagons remains unexplained.
