EDIT: Out of curiosity, guys, I know that copy-pasting in comics is generally frowned upon, but what about copy-pasting backgrounds? Not that I do this, but I was wondering whether I could get away with less work.

The gradient always stays in the same spot, for me.

Make sure you have the selector tool selected, then maximize Inkscape. See the symbols on the far right of the top toolbar? Click on the third (I think. If not, mouse over them until you see one that talks about gradients.) one to the right. That should allow you to move gradients around with the objects.

EDIT: Woo! Two comics done in one day! That's the most I've gotten done since...a long time ago.
Also, I tried out some shading in the last comic. I kind of like it, I think I'll keep using it.

I mean, we may alter templates, but we don't just re-draw the entire thing! Copy and paste as much as you want, as long as it's your own work.

Yeah that would be new to me, everyone copy and pastes backgrounds too of course.

What he said, copy-pasting is only looked down upon if it's other people's work or entire panels that are not changed in the slightest (mostly frowned upon in less simplistic webcomics)

Unless the identical panels are supposed to serve a purpose (other than to lower the artist's workload), like a comedic pause for example.

Even then it's better to at least have some change (such as people looking in other directions and thinking about what to say or one of those grass thingies that always seem to come by in comedic pauses and right before a duel )

But you are right that it's far more acceptable in such situations

Okay, suffice to say I did not know all this. If I had, I could have saved myself quite a bit of inconvenience! Thanks, all.

By the way, for the comic before the latest one and my CA random kill, all drawings were unique. Of course, the CA drawing sucked, but all the same.
However, I cheated in the latest comic and copied the first image into the last.

No, I mean the way they did it in Pocahontas. He's killed by a bullet but we see no actual wound, blood or any other indication of having been shot aside from seeing a guy fire in his general direction.

I think they did it similar in other movies too, perhaps with Mufasa in the Lion King?

It ripped off both. It's a pretty cliche plotline, to be honest. I think the order's something like:
Dances With Wolves comes first.
Pocahontas rips off DWW.
Avatar rips off Pocahontas.
