I disagree. It sounds like this will keep us from being overconfident and doing stuff that will get us killed. Like this:

You take the 3 MMMMASKS, as well as the RAZOR HANDS, NAIL GUN, and HUNTING RIFLE, though you can't use any of those since you're a SPY. Oh and of course you collect all of the WRECKING HANDS that you can find. You let SM take the rest of the loot.

Thinking fast, you use your SHARPIE OF DISGUISEMANSHIP to craft a CUNNING DISGUISE of a ROGUE. They'll think you're one of them now! Everyone look at how clever you are!

I'm pretty sure that losing POINTS in Ego is bad. High Ego likely nets us abilities like ASSUMED ARROGANCE AEGIS and EGOCENTRIC ENMITY EQUALIZER which enable our confidence in our abilities to enhance them.

You place the CALIBRATING CLAYMORE back where it belongs, which seems to be somewhere around the floor in front of you, or maybe below you? It promptly disappears before you can really get a good look at where it is.

You also decide to try out some of your MAD LOOTS, but unfortunately you're not allowed to wear the RHINO HELM, and you can't seem to use the SCIMITAR (distorted), either. It certainly isn't classified as sword. In fact, you're not even sure what a "s%!vrd" is.

At least you got a nice KATANA out of the whole deal, increasing your total swords equipped to 3.
