Not necessarily, sometimes you can wield it without doing the quest chain, and it's a decent sword.
Of course, if you DO end up doing the quest and Slaying the Sovereign Sorcerer you can use the Sword to Summon the Soldier's Steadfast Spirit.

Who said anything about it being a weapon? It is obviously just a simple "important item" that does absolutely nothing.

Of course, we have a class that wields part of the game as a weapon, so maybe she has a skill to wield otherwise useless quest items?

No no no! If you used the SACRED FLAME to light the SACRED SWORD, then you wouldn't be able to re-light the tower! And if you don't do that, then the next group of BEARCOLYTES won't give you their SACRED FLAME to light the next tower, and you won't be able to finish the quest.

Obviously this is a choice meant to tempt the unwary into seeking temporary power instead of doing what's right. If you instead persevere and re-light all the towers, you'll bring peace back to the land of the bears and earn their support in any other endeavors you take up! They'll even light the SACRED SWORD for you if you complete the associated sidequest!

These notes that MG gave you have a surprisingly large amount of lore in them. That is to say, it HAS lore. Most of the time you have to hammer all the lore of any games you play into her yourself. You do have a sneaking suspicion that she may have just copy-pasted this from some internet guide. There was a capitalized letter a few pages back.
