Re: Sedition (4e Dnd IC)
SpoilerHaha. Well I assumed we were taking the horses. And whichever he gets on is the one he's going to ride, so thereby "his" horse. Do we need to do something to get the horses?

Kraagor
Taking the leftovers from the group, Kraagor prepares to leave. He doesn't really equip or plan to use much of it. In fact the horse may be something of a hindrance for tracking.

Re: Sedition (4e Dnd IC)
You travel for some time in the darkness, following the gnoll tracks by the light of Bortos' sword. After some ten miles or so, you follow the tracks into a forest, north of Mittegarve. At this point the trail becomes harder to read, but, slowing down some, you're able to follow it nonetheless.
This half of the game is put briefly on hold, as much more time has passed in the IC than the SP and so those guys need to catch up before we can continue.

Re: Sedition (4e Dnd IC)
Alright, the game may begin again, as the two worlds have aligned.
Following the trail deep into the forest, you see ahead of you a clearing, glowing with a disturbing and somehow cold red light. You hear chanting, and can just make out a number of humanoid figures within the clearing.
To your right, something speaks. "Thanks be to the spirits, aid has arrived! Do not be alarmed," the thing says as it emerges from the undergrowth. You see a wilden, and recognize it as the Speaker of the Wild at the Festival of the Thaw, scant few hours ago. "I've been following these beasts since they left Mittegarve," the Speaker says to you. "These...things are an abhorrence of nature, and they must begone from this place. I've communed with the spirits of the forest, and they are prepared to defend their home. I trust this is why you are here, to slay the gnolls? If so, I offer my aid."

Re: Sedition (4e Dnd IC)
Lukas
Lukas draws his new sword at the sound from the right. When he recognizes the Speaker, he relaxes a little but does not put away the sword. He quietly dismounts the horse and hitches it to a nearby tree where it can feed on some of the foliage on the ground.
Speaking quietly he replies, "Yes. We're here to kill the gnolls and free the people they took. We'd be glad for the help, but stay behind me. I'm sure the villagers would hate to see one of their spiritual leaders in a bloody mess on the floor." Lukas begins adjusting his armor, preparing for the impending fight. When he's ready, with sword and shield in hand, he turns to the others to see how they're doing.
SpoilerI aquired the new sword, but can you give me its specifics so I can update my sheet? You can either OOC them or send me a PM, that's cool.

Re: Sedition (4e Dnd IC)
The speaker smiles thinly at you and shakes its head, mildly amused. "Oh, no, my son. I'm sorry I was unclear. I'll not be fighting; I'm no warrior. I am going to call upon the spirits of the earth to aid you. It will take a few moments for me to gather them."

Kraagor
In his position near the middle of the group, Kraagor watches for a moment and then keeps scanning for an ambush after the speaker makes itself known. Taking a moment to take in what was said while superficially keeping an eye on the forest, the druid contemplates a course of action.
"I can offer you aid for your workin's here, but what have you gleaned about what we're facing? It'd also be comforting ta know how you escaped."

Re: Sedition (4e Dnd IC)
The Speaker laughs quietly. "Young druid, if you are expecting great tales of my exploits, you are to be disappointed. I left the Festival as the riot broke out, and returned to my forest. But a terrible sense of foreboding came over me, and I knew something was terribly wrong. Leaving my home, the spirits guided me to the massacre, and simply followed their riders in silence. The fools pay little attention to what goes on around them. I've been preparing for the coming violence until you arrived. As for your aid, my son, there is little to do but wait. However, I appreciate your offer." The Speaker thinks for a moment. "I know this about the beasts: they're practicing foul magics in that clearing, that much is plain to see. I do not believe there are more than ten of them, but as you know, ten of the beasts would be daunting adversaries indeed."

Re: Sedition (4e Dnd IC)
The speaker thinks for a moment. "I've an idea," he says. "The forest could bring itself to rustle, as if there were something in hiding, in the other direction from us. I'm sure the gnolls would investigate the noise. Ah, our aid arrives."
Out of the shadowy undergrowth move four humanoid figures. Three are made of wood, and vaguely feminine, long plants and flowers forming a mane around their heads. The fourth, seemingly composed of the earth itself, bears no distinguishing details on its body save rough fingers and toes.Last edited by Incomp; 2010-07-19 at 06:35 PM.

Lukas
Well, I did say all the help we could get...
Lukas surveys the creatures that have joined them. He doesn't know what they are, but they seem like they might be formidable in a fight. Especially that dirt thing...
"I like your idea for the distraction. We'll need to time it so that the group that runs off are far enough away to not cause us trouble once the fighting begins. Can you do that, Speaker?"

"I will do my best. We must hurry now, so if you have no further questions, I shall begin."
The speaker moves off into the distance, presumably wishing for solitude.
The creatures remain standing there, motionless and silent.

I'll get on the map.
You see 6 gnolls, not counting the three who went off to investigate the distraction. Only one of them has a wolf, but he is not riding it.

Re: Sedition (4e Dnd IC)
Arright. Map is here.
Explanation: The green squares are the edges of the forest. These squares grant concealment and are difficult terrain, representing the thick undergrowth.
The big red thing in the middle is a massive pit, radiating red light.
The white squares with S's in them are skeletons on pikes.
The maroon W's are gnolls which are levitating several feet off the ground, and seem to be emitting energy.
The dark red P is a gnoll with a big maul, studded with bloody teeth.
The red G's are gnoll warriors on foot.
The blue F is the gnoll leader, and the big blue W is his wolf. Yeah, they're back.
EDIT: oh yeah, the other four are your buddies.Last edited by Incomp; 2010-07-20 at 02:30 PM.

Bortos, looking at the situation.
"I would say that we keep the leader and his pet for the end, he is quite tough, unless he still is seriously injured. If I can take them by surprise, I might be able to push some of them into the pit. I would run on the halfling side and strike at the maul gnoll."

Kraagor
Surveying the field, Kraagor looks over the combatants and terrain and shudders for a moment by a backlash of unnatural energy. In a hushed town he comments,
"Free the prisoners, see if they kin be armed. Shutting down their ritual'l be priority, but I'd like to get my hands on the leader."
Shifting into wolf form, Kraagor takes a low-profile attempting to conceal his location to better release the strangers as early as possible.

As for your stealth roll, do you get any bonus for having concealment (it's also dim light, if that counts)?Last edited by Incomp; 2010-07-21 at 12:44 AM.

"Alright, let's do this. If any enemy spot us, lets rush them before he can alert the others, to keep some surprise."
Bortos draw his shield and sword making sure the light is turned off and close in toward the enemies. He stays a bit behind Lukas and Kraagor, knowing very well his lack of ability to be stealthy.

If we get spotted (and I notice it), I'd like to rush forward to take advantage of the surprise (at least against those who didnt see us).
If we ever make it the whole way with the stealth, my goal position is X15.

Re: Sedition (4e Dnd IC)
Oh my god, Dekkah, that made my morning. I'm sorry, but...that's hilarious. How do you have a -2 modifier?
You're level 4, right, and so you have +2 from half-level...oh yeah, armor. Ok, I can only interpret that thusly:
Sadly, Bortos crashes through the undergrowth with all the subtlety of an enraged bull elephant, alerting the gnolls to your presence before you arrive. Suprise round lost.
You guys can place yourselves on the south forest section. The dryads will take X9, 11, and 13, while the slower Spirit of Earth will start at Y12.
