Janick's a jerk, yeah, but as both Sir Misery and Poseidon have commented, he's not evil. He doesn't attack people with his Pokemon (when Murderface attacked Adrian, he stopped it and tried to help Adrian). He doesn't kill other Pokemon with his own. Ultimately, he's not a bad guy, and the realization that despite how much of an ass he's been, Ripper will still jump in front of him to defend him, made him realize that maybe he should be a little more considerate of his team. And yes, Lance's Magnificent Bastard qualities are, in a way, a cautionary tale for Janick, and he doesn't want to become that.

I don't know, I thought it worked well. Janick's a jerk, becomes slightly less so as he starts to like his Pokemon, becomes slightly more so after Algernon dies, becomes slightly less so after Ripper protects him.

Also, I look forward to the Pokemon League showdown. Fun times.

Janick is my favorite character, if I'm honest. He just reminds me of what I would do if pokemon were real.

Also, the computer is a cheating whore in the difficult version of this game. You shouldn't hit each and every time after being sand-attacked 6 times, you shouldn't critical 4 times in a row, and an attack that can make me flinch SHOULDN'T MAKE ME FLINCH ALMOST EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU USE IT!

And this isn't just a one time happening. All the major trainers get this, and what happens when you try to get the positive effects of a move or do what they do? You come short and they kick your ass.
That's what makes this fun.

Story-wise, I have a big overarching thing, but characters hit me kind of stream-of-consciousness. I'm just not sure how much there is to Murderface.

You know, I figure if you have to die, you might as well go out doing something worthwhile. It's better to burn out than to fade away. Live fast, die young, and leave a nice corpse behind. The irony of man's condition is that the deepest need is to be free of the anxiety of death and annihilation; but it is life itself which awakens it, and so we must shrink from being fully alive, that's Ernest Becker there. I've lived to the fullest, and when I go, I'm going to make sure I have no regrets.

I had it all, back with Bill. I'm from a long line of Eevees and various evolutions. Bill's house is small, but his lab might as well be a mansion. All the food we could eat, no responsibilities. All we did was sit around and look cute so some ten year old girl with rich parents would adopt one of us. I was never docile enough for those kids though. I always wanted adventure. You want to know what freedom is? Freedom is having everything anyone could ever want...and throwing it away because you want something else.

And so here we are, on an adventure. Danger at every turn! Appropriate times to flash my wit and daringly attack my foes. So much momentum, we've got. Some might say it's irresponsible. My father told me I was irresponsible, but I disagree with the old dog. I'm too old to do what's expected and too young to want to. I say bring on the unending horde of war. Bring on adventure. Bring me some jokes to crack, a girl to romance, and a foe to fight.

I might die any day. There are infinite ways to die. The only way to ensure you'll get a good one is to put yourself in the kind of situations where you'll never be forgotten.

Bonus Chapter 10

My life has always been about defense. When I was a wild Pokemon, fights with others always turned into stalemates. I waited until my enemy was tired, and then I'd chase them off. But back then, I couldn't defend everyone I wanted to. My little friends, so much weaker, couldn't rely on me to keep them safe. I've grown since then, and I owe Janick for that. I'm bigger, stronger, tougher. Nothing has beaten me since I've joined him.

I still have to get stronger. I couldn't defend Bug, or Hawkman. Ivy and Bela died and I couldn't help. Algernon died by poison, but it should've been me. I'm hardier. Maybe I could've resisted, or maybe I could've held off until Janick got to a Pokemon Center. I don't know, and I'll never know. But I'm not going to let anyone else die. These Pokemon are my friends and family now. Ripper and I have been together this entire journey. Poseidon and I have the same goals. Sir Misery and Murderface aren't my kind of friends, but they're important to this team anyway. Even Caspian, who is new, is one of us. I will protect all of them.

One of the bad things about being a wild Pokemon is that you don't grow up with a family. If your parents aren't captured by trainers, they die in fights, usually. I never met my mother. My father was a Glaile, and he stayed with me when I was little, keeping me safe from anything that would hurt me. I don't remember him well, but I remember one night, attacked by a host of wild birds that wanted to drive us from our home. Even though he wasn't as naturally defensive as I was, my father told me to run. I ran, and never looked back. All I remember is my father telling me that it was more important to protect others than yourself.

I don't know if I can protect my friends. But if I have to, I'll do whatever it takes to try.

These are just little drabbles since I don't want to grind for Mahogany Gym right now. Sorry they're not something more concrete.
