Names are just names. Many mangakas just pick names for their characters from those which are most common, which means there's a huge number of characters with same names who have absolutely nothing to do with each other. So there was no reason to panic just because you character shared a first name with canon one, even a major character.

For example "Sasuke Uchiha" is a combination of two stock names usually used for ninja characters. It's also a name for major character in Naruto, but unless your character is a ninja with weird eyes, no-one would bat an eyelash if you had a character with that name.

I'll stick with Sora. It means Sky.

Ventus, the titular character of Birth By Sleep, means "Wind" in Latin.

Okay, so it goes like this: Hannibal means "Ba'al is Gracious", Ba'al meaning god or lord; my second name is Johannes, from hebrew Yochanan, which means YHWH is gracious. Funny, that.

I usually don't try too hard with my characters' names; I let a random generator give me some first names, and I then nab a surname from a list of most common ones. Still, sometimes the results are strangely appropriate. Yamamoto Sayuri, for example; Yamamoto means "base of a mountain" while Syuri means "small lily".

Well FF, either way, you've just been ninja'd.

Maybe some character names have little special meaning, but some do also I think.

Apparently it was against "Da Rulez". "It could have naughty pictures in it that we don't know about, and it is inconsiderate to people with slower computers" even though I am one of those people with slower computers. =P

Also, that's really me. I wore a rabbit costume for Easter one year. It was a good excuse to stalk the children... with candy.

EDIT: I find it amusing that the naughtiest picture I had on my list was the "sexy lute" one.

The one thing I love about Japanese is that given enough effort, all names can be a cool 'pun'.

I called my Persona 4 MC Kazama Yougen (Kaza=Kaze, Wind; Ma=Demon; Yougen=Premonition).

My OC's surname in the currently-in-its-planning stages SRW RP is a huge tip-off as to who he actually is, but I find it unlikely anyone would guess without looking at his profile.
