Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Oooooh, nice build up of the story, stealth missions. For those who say Mordokai is playing it safe he is only using his resources as wisely as he can. Choose your battlegrounds my friends. Sending in one paladin to disable the device, leaving the majority to fight at the time of their choosing makes sense to me.

Paladin Academy: Part 26
-Cast-
Kurama
Viola
SpoilerKurama slowly opened the door to their room. He entered with Viola following close behind, and then turned and closed it. The light from the crescent moon shone through the window, illuminating the room in a twilight glow. Kurama walked over to his nightstand and leaned upon it, trying to grasp everything that had happened. Suddenly behind him he hears fast, heavy breathing. He whirls around to see Viola sitting on her bed with her back leaning on the wall. She seemed to be close to hyperventilating and was shivering slightly. Kurama responded alarmed.
"Viola, are you alright?!"
She didn't answer and instead shook her head, eyes closed. Kurama hurried over and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"It's okay, Viola. Calm down."
Viola took several breaths and then looked at Kurama.
"What in the world was I thinking?! I'm not ready to take on the Demon King! Why in the world would I say something like that?!"
Her voice was growing more high-pitched and panicky with every word she spoke.
Kurama was startled at this.
"But...But you just said you were ready for this just a while ago."
Viola shook her head again.
"That wasn't me! I don't know what made me say that... It's like watching your body through a window and seeing it act on its own."
She buried her face in her knees.
Kurama didn't know what to say.
"I...I don't know..."
He takes a deep breath.
"Viola, you were still really impressive back there standing up and saying all that. You may not think it, but that was you. You're alot stronger than you think."
Viola didn't answer.
"And besides, you're not going after the Demon King, you're just going to stop whatever is letting the magic through the portal."
Viola's voice sounds slightly muffled behind her knees.
"And how am I going to do that? I don't know what to look for. How can I do something that I know nothing about."
There was silence for a few minutes. Then Kurama spoke again.
"Viola... Whatever you do, come back safe, okay?"
There was a note of pleading in his voice. This made Viola look up at Kurama.
"Regardless of what happens, if you're seen or can't get to the source of magic, please just run back to the portal and come back to this realm."
Viola blinked at this.
"Please don't sacrifice yourself like..."
Kurama took a deep breath.
"...like Silv. I can't... I don't think I can live if you die too. Just please... just come back if anything goes wrong. We can figure something else out once you come back to us."
Viola was silent for a while. She had never seen anyone this concerned about her before. Finally, she found her voice.
"Don't worry, I will. If anything goes wrong, I'll come back safely."
Kurama didn't seem cheered up by this. In fact, he looked angry with himself.
"No... why can I not let go?..."
He sat down on his bed, head in his hands.
Viola understood instantly.
"Kurama. Don't be angry with yourself. I understand what you're going through. But I promise I'll come back."
Kurama looked up at her.
"You promise?"
Viola nodded.
"Yes. Blue probably has something that can tell me what the time is so I can know when the invasion will start. If I can't stop this thing by early afternoon, I'll come right back."
Kurama looked at her for several seconds and nodded slowly.
"Alright. Then I'll see you then. Good luck."
Viola nodded.
"You too."
Several moments pass and both of them slowly crawl into their beds and fall asleep.Last edited by Silverraptor; 2012-10-25 at 02:30 PM.

Yes, the romantic tension is crazy. At first that chapter made me want to cry, and at the end I was going "KISS KISS KISS!".

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Hooray for the awesomeness that is the academy!
I don't think it can get better, but then it does. I almost hope she dosn't find it in time so we can see an army of paladins fighting demons, only to have them crush the beacon at the last moment.Avatar by Logalmier

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Hey, two updates up since I last checked! Awesome!
And about the beacon... What if letting it be destroyed at the right moment was Grim's endgame all along? He can just let paladins and demonic army tear each other apart. Then, when the beacon deactivates, Grim can escape in the confusion and whack the rest of the paladins in the process, thus betraying both sides successfully! That would also explain why he gives up just enough info of his "plan" without much of a struggle, and also would ensure that Viola would be alone and unaided, thus easier pickings than with whole academy backing her up... Oh, the opportunities he has for magnificent bastardy are nearly limitless here, depending on what precautions he took beforehand
Or I could be totally wrong and he could be highly one-dimensional character. That could be true too, but I hope it is not
Edit: Also, the dialogue between Viola and Kurama was most definitely D'awww-worthyLast edited by Grim ranger; 2010-08-02 at 11:37 AM.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
And separating the main character from her friends on a very important mission is a perfect chance to assassinate one or more of them, when they can't protect each other.
This last chapter was very cute. Definitely improving there.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Okay, good. I was worried you guys wouldn't have liked that latest part very well since I didn't put it together well. I originally spent an hour and a half writing out a beautiful piece of work and then lost it all by accident. That part I wrote up now was done in less than 20 minutes since I had a very small time frame to write it. The part only covers the most important of what was said in the first time I wrote it and I will most definately try to rewrite and improve it in the near future. (When I remember how I exactly wrote it out to begin with.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Also: You need to update your sig. You're on 26, now.
Updated now.
It was overall pretty good, giving voice to the underlying romantic plot, and because of it, I'm really hoping that somehow, the mission goes awry, and this segment gains great importance in the plot, with Kurama disobeying orders to save her, or some other such dramatic event. However, this needs to have some lasting impact in the plot. Otherwise, it is merely a small, romantic side event that detracts from the overall plot.Last edited by Fable Wright; 2010-08-02 at 11:52 AM.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Just a word of caution - the romantic element should probably be curtailed before one of the mods comes down on this as another "shipping" thread. Unless that's been your plan all along.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
You hush up Mangosta, the moment we start questioning whether it's ok or not is when it definitey isn't. The truth is, Silverraptor has made no real statement that it is in the slightest bit romantic. That was all us. So Silverraptor has done nothing wrong that I think the mods could even THINK of locking this thread for. Now stop doubting.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Well, as I understood it from Roland, mild flirting was alright as long as it doesn't develop any furthur from that. But if he comes in asking for me to tone it down, I'll be happy to oblige.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
*shrug* When Roland locked the shipping thread, his biggest point was "no romance at all". I was under the impression that even mild flirting was dangerous territory.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Before changing the story just because of prude moderators just load it up somewhere else and let the thread be just for discussing it, just post in the links.
I'd hate for a good story to be ruined by such pointless... I'd rather not call it what I think it is.

Re: Paladin Academy: A Playground Inspired Story
Ya, but as I recall, he said that romance itself wasn't bad, it was just what would most commonly come after it. This story is going to remain an entire fantasy adventure setting and everything else will come second to that. This part is probably the furthurest (or second furthurest) that Kurama and Viola will go in sharing their feelings to each other.
So lets just drop this particular conversation right here and continue with the wild speculation of what's going to happen to Viola in the Hell she's going to go in.
