Seems to me you could partly incorporate events already by just doing things like mentioning the school fire and other things that would be noted happening in one story occurring in the other as well. Wouldn't need to have paths intersect to link them. Also could just avoid having control over events that happen if stories collide, though that might have trouble and end up making it easier to just go with your plan to have slightly different characters in the main story, lest this become just Kimberly's off days from the main story and how she occupies herself between important events. But up till stories collide (if ever), no need to keep them completely separated.

Just as the man walks through the door and sees you, you get up, attempting to explain the situation as nothing more than a harmless accident. However, your chest accidentally pushes straight into Clay's face, rending the poor boy near catatonic. It's a good thing that he seems to be a robot. If he was human, you're afraid the brightness of his blush would cause third-degree burns, but as it is his face is rather cool.

You're a very good actor! Perhaps you should consider joining the drama club when school starts.
