"You'd be surprised" Audric mutters, almost to himself. Then, to the elf "You know I can't let you leave, don't you? For one, you won't be safe - I don't care what he says. And for the other... look, that's how it is" he looks the elf straight in the eyes "I've been sent down here because something strange was happening. Now, you say you've been here most of your life. Why should we become aware of you just now? There must be something else. Meet me half way, will you?"

Rowan

This was probably not such a good idea. Idiot. And the sewers, of all places…

Between the wet thunk of her feet hitting the ground, Rowan hears the faint sound of an argument, and halts abruptly. Unable to make out the gist of the conversation, she begins to continue towards it when three men pound on past, two - guards? - being chased by another.

…They probably know the way out.

"Oy!" she cries, turning and chasing after them.

The elf meets Audric's gaze, with no hesitation. "Did you ever consider that, maybe, just maybe, we didn't want to be found? Maybe we didn't feel like getting gutted and flayed in the name of justice? His voice is bitter. "I've been betrayed before. I've been hunted, abandoned, lied to, imprisoned, and nearly executed for the crime of being an elf. I'm alone in the world, no friends, no family, no one who gives a copper piece about my well-being. You really expect me to believe I've just run into one of the few decent paladins in the world?

One of the guards glances at you. "Oy Fred, move it! There's another of them crazies behind us!

To be fair, it is possible. Just because you don't expect something doesn't mean you shouldn't consider it.

Surprised, Audric turns to the halfling "Thank you...I guess" he says. Then, again, to the elf "I've got a counter-argument to that one. I didn't kill you on sight, did I?"

[Savannah]

"Furthermore, he didn't have to intervene. He could have left you to the guards. And he did swear not to hurt you if you cooperated."

[Jallorn]

Of course, that doesn't mean you have to go along with everything he wants.

It must be a day for compliments, I guess Audric thinks, refraining at the last second from smiling. Who knows what sort of ideas the others would get if they saw him grinning to himself. "That too. And the promise is still valid."

Of course, that doesn't mean you have to go along with everything he wants.

"Of course. But maybe we can find a common ground."

The elf shakes his head and laughs. "How in the world were you accepted as a paladin? From what I know, sounds like someone as merciful as you would have been eaten alive during the training."

[Strawberries]

"I had help. What, you want to share life stories with me now?" Audric can't help but laugh as well. Surreal is the exact word he'd use to describe this situation "I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours."

[Jallorn]

Well hell, I'm listening.

[Ajadea]

The elf shrugs. "I basically told you already. Lots of running and hiding. I've been chased by peasants with pitchforks, elves with longbows, and city guards with axes taller than I am, as you may have noticed."

“Oh, fine.” It’s not like this day may become more strange than it is now, after all. “Once upon a time, a couple of parents had a child. Since he was their third, and they weren’t exactly swimming in money, they decided the temple would be the best place for him to be provided for. So he was raised there, messed up a couple of things, found a friend who taught him how to behave, grew up and became a paladin. And everybody lived happily ever after. That’s mine”. He looks at the elf "You've been chased by elves, you say. You aren't exactly one, are you?"

The elf is already gone, it would seem. Makes sense, considering what you just saw.

Antal returns to the others, First, he took something of yours, Antal says to the paladin, second, I think he might be a spellcaster.

Once Llaars catches up with the guards, he stops them and says,"Hey, either of you two seen any punks runnin' around here with a big bag of money?"

He then looks at Rowan and says,"Oh, and for the record, I'm not crazy; there are some people back there that apparently came down here to argue."
