I did pick it though. To be honest, I thought this amount of enemies was kind compared to what you could have thrown in.

Heh, relax. Honestly, compared to what I'd do for a first map (were I able to ensure myself the time and effort), 8 is reasonable.

Eh, Blues got Anselm, Aran, and Kain. The three of them are pretty good at taking a hit for various reasons...

    Anselms well rounded.
Aran is a bit lower leveled than the rest, but has good defense for where hes at. Lack of speed hurts him a bit though.
Kain while lacking defense has the HP to soak up damage.
Even Jalnir could do a bit of it since hes quick enough that against axe and perhaps sword wielders he could serve as an effective dodge-tank. However, hes not suited for the front lines against lance wielders or large numbers of enemies.

    Looking at Green...

    Roan is overleveled
Gerard is a walking meat shield and because they used speedwings on him, hes fast enough that double attacks are rarely an issue for the time being.
Greg traded all of his "ability to hit things" skills for "ability to take a hit" skills

On the flip side though, Francis, Katleia, and Yuan are all pretty fragile. Green is just good about using their meat-walls to keep the glass cannons safe.

Oh, and I changed my display picture again. Was happy with Margaret, but when I saw the new one I knew what had to be done. Its just a shame that it loses a fair bit of detail when shrunken down to 120 pixels.

Oh, that's nothing. I'm running a trial map for my game, and this was one of the bosses' deaths:
    Angel 1 attacked!
Garth took 21 damage! (Health is now 1, he took damage earlier)
    Garth cannot counter!
    Angel 1 attacked again!
CRITICAL HIT! Garth took 63 damage!
    Garth is forced to retreat!

Ya know... As dramatic as potato chips are, I really don't know how I'd incorperate them with murder. Heres the thing though...

Yuan got a crit and killed someone with Light. There was no way I could pass that oppertunity up.

Edit: Oh, and unless Garth actually had 84+ total health, then he can't take 21 and then 63 damage. Damage cannot exceed the target's maximum health, otherwise Yuan woulda done a helluvalot more than 10 damage. Probably 40 something, I dont remember the exact number...

So, this thread is looking rather barren. Let's fix that.

What I have for a first map (minus enemies, and I might throw in a chest or two), assuming I can get reliable players and ensure I'm reliable myself.

I'd be using Summoner's system (I prefer it to Arq's, nothing personal), who will naturally have a spot reserved if he so wishes. Somewhere between one and three lord positions, depending again on how many I get, but probably two.

I've got a rough plot lined out, with a basis on mystery (I seriously considered this map being the first in chronological order only, using it as a flashback, but that wouldn't work due to recruitment and the RP factor.). The two key lords would likely be a mercenary leader (hence the rest of the starting group) and an amnesiac, and maybe another mercenary group if I need a third lord. I'm hoping to try and let it have more of a player-driven focus

I'd be using a simple world, say a generic good country at war with a prideful militaristic one, with an impartial one off to the side, a seclusive semi-totalitarian one separated by mountains and a barbarian island collective to the south.

    Discuss!

I am of course interested, and I think I'm going to go with a healer this time around. The only question is if I will do priest or male troubadour...

    Some suggestions on the map...

I would use a different tile for the staircase at M2. Look at the one I used on Green's map on E15 and J15. What you have now doesnt look bad, but I think the other tile would look better.

I'm assuming you'll be opening some passageways (F4 and F5 for example) based on the way the floor tile shading currently is. In the areas where (I'm assuming) there are going to be passages once you add them, its fine, but a few tiles aren't properly shaded... K22 and N22 for example need top shading from the wall as do I19, J19, K19, N19, O19 and P19. If you skipped the shading entirely it would be one thing, but whether you do it or not, you need to be consistant or it won't look right.

Finally, theres a rather large empty area from about G4 to R9. While there is nothing wrong with this, it might be a bit more interesting if you added something in that area. Even if it was something as simple as a few impassable pillars or treasure chests, it would really spice things up.

Its a rather large first map, so I'd wager alot will be going on. Nothing wrong with starting the game with a bang... I sure as hell did.

Edit: Oh, how many teams will there be? Just one or are you going to try for two or maybe even three. If theres more than one team, will they be allied or will there be conflict at any point? (or will that depend on the choices of the players?)

As I said, I was going to leave it open to how many I got in, so whether or not this is one or two mercenary groups contracted in. My plan is to have them start off together, and if they break off later down the track that's fine. I'm torn between two different primary antagonists at the moment, so it would be interesting if the story lent itself to following both.

And I was about to say, I was thinking of making the amnesiac lord a healer. Admittedly I had been envisioning the whole thing using place holder characters, but would you like to play as Ninian male healer lord Summoner? I did find it easier to simply use placeholders for some of the countries as well, i.e. Crimea and Daein for the two warring countries (I'm pretty sure I can get away with not having to even worry about fleshing out the generic good country, and the prideful militaristic country will probably be our staging area).

yeesh characters... I wouldn't mind finally pulling off a mercenary. Mysteries are always fun. My attachment to Blazing Sword was the mysterious and deadly threat of the evil forces; made the enemies really scary no matter how many times I kicked their sorry backsides.

    Mage
    Thief

    Different Mage
Pronbably one or two more that slip my mind...

... Ok, by characters I had meant in my mind, imagining how it might go along. Pinning people down to certain characters would destroy the RP.

And no, the lord doesn't need to be a healer, I'm just saying that that's an option. I had reserved the key lord position for you, but I guess that's open for business now.

And to heck with it, I'm going to start writing up the world fluff and create the recruitment thread.
