Re: The treat that thwarted twenty ten ton tunas (Random Banter #144)
Usually, alliteration refers to initial consonants or, in Anglo-Saxon verse, where the stressed syllables start with the same phoneme. I'm absolutely terrible at scansion, but I'm pretty sure the "thwar" part of "thwarted" is the stressed syllable.
The new title is quite nice, though. Double alliteration is better than boring old single alliteration.

Re: The threatening treat thread that thwarted twenty ten ton tunas (Random Banter #1
So, I go away to hack at a bunch of downed limbs (I'm-a need a ladder or a tool I can use to extend the reach of my cutting power to fix the problem in toto), and the thread title changes so completely that it even changed the titles in the posts we made.
Wiggy-woo-whack.
ION: Dear Lord am I sweaty and I was only gone for about 30 minutes, meaning I started at 6 in the evening thereabouts.

People can have emotional reactions to things they've already read more than once?
Strange. Almost makes me wonder if I'm missing out on some kind of emotional schema.

Assuming you don't have a photographic memory you do this as well.
You just appear to think you don't.
Welcome to NHK is still sad no matter how many times I watch it...
That and the suicide episode. Every time...
Spoilers. Not that I believe anyone is interested. Or will even click them for that matter.
Anyway, a matter of some curiosity of mine: do people typically make any noise when they cry or is it commonplace to shed tears without a sound?Last edited by Player_Zero; 2010-07-25 at 06:48 PM.

Re: The threatening treat thread that thwarted twenty ten ton tunas (Random Banter #1
Depends on whether there's anguish or just sorrow going on.
Typically a fair number of people cry out from the raw pain of the experience of such deep anguish. If it's just sorrow though, it sorta depends upon personality and training for lack of a better word.
As a young boy, for instance, I learned to choke down the gasping for air that accompanied my tears, especially because I mostly cried out of anger. Still do, actually. Is when I'm at my most dangerous because I've all but lost control of myself. And then I crash and crash hard and feel like I'm about to die from the utter loss of energy.

Re: The threatening treat thread that thwarted twenty ten ton tunas (Random Banter #1
Depends on how hard you are crying. If it's a slow gentle cry, usually it is silent. If you are bawling, usually your nose will stuff up, causing you to begin gasping for air, which (combined usually with drainage from your nose) causes the really nasty sound some people make when crying.
Of course, this is all from second hand experience. Guys don't cry.Avatar by Lycunadari

Re: The threatening treat thread that thwarted twenty ten ton tunas (Random Banter #1
Poor DeeRee, having to read such abominable books, those being any book after three or possibly four.
Four was good, but not worthy of the greatness of three.
Don't worry sweetie, I'm here for when you need to talk LotR again. Hehe, there's a thought, maybe I should try to beat my LotR record. It'd be good for gits and shiggles. And for burning my poor weak eyeballs out.
But I have run out of Sherlock Holmes, so what else've I got to lose?

Do you really want to know?
Mmm, stirfried noodles and veggies with a topping of boneless asian-style wings isn't a bad combination, surprisingly.
Bow saws are hard to learn how to use though. Then again, they might not be the right tool for dealing with removing downed and partially attached limbs from a tree.

Oh yeah, Curly, did you see the new BBC modern version of Sherlock Holmes that just started today? My parents neglected to tell me it existed, but I walked in partway through just after scrabble, and it seemed pretty good to me.

Re: The thread that Rawhide's having entirely too much fun changing the title of (RB
Okay, confession here m'dear: I LOVE Harry Potter.
Maybe it's just the nostalgia effect, given that I started reading them when I was eight years old and have re-read all that were extant at the time at least once every year since then.
But
I love them.
See above. I've read the first four books at least fifteen, twenty times. 5 and 6, ten-ish times. 7 I just finished for the fifth time.
So sue me.

You'll get there.
In other news, this song at full blast makes my shed tears.
And not just because my eardrums are exploding. From awesomeness.

Anyways, the correct test is punching a charging bison in the fist with your face, you pheasant plucker. Any milk-livered sherry drinker could do yours.
Do you think the electric piano is being played and recorded, or simply programmed in? I wouldn't put it past a Japanese player to be able to handle those whip-fast chords.Last edited by Kneenibble; 2010-07-25 at 08:37 PM.

Re: The thread that Rawhide's having entirely too much fun changing the title of (RB
You are a crude, crude man.
I have been uninformed!
What?
Channel?
Also, which story?
Oh dear. But don't you worry my bird, I still have an undying affection for every one of Enid Blyton's mysteries and school books. Been reading them since I was six and they're still as enioyable as ever.
Maybe it's the lashings of ginger beer, or the nostalgia, but I'm unretentant in my love for the wonderful Enid Blyton.
Aaaaaannnnnd for the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew (but only their original case files). I don't know why, but I like them despite the fact that they're fairly repetitive in certain areas and that Nancy is a Mary Sue - and yet I still collect them.
Currently the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew and the Three Investigators share the same box as Paradise Lost, my collection of Sherlock Holmes books, Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons series, my two copies of both the Iliad, Odyssey (it's all about sex on the beach! I hate Odyseus) and various Ancient Greek plays. Oh, and The Three Musketeers and Magician by Feist - despite the latter having another - much smaller box - all to himself.
Paradoxical and unmatched in quality, genre, publication and every other way I use to organise my books.
I blame meddling siblings.
*sues DeeRee*
I can understand the first three and even the fourth. Given anything I'd probably reread the first three - the third was bloody good, but the later ones angered me.
The most memorable part of book the fifth was that a girl got spots and I genuinely forgot everything that happened in book the sixth within five minutes of closing the book for the first time.
<.< After reading it cover to cover on the day of its UK release in a tad over five hours. >.>
And book the sixth was meant to be shocking!
Bathatar!
