Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
Cats are epic. Except when they dribble on you. Like mine just did.
When he does that I kick him off my lap. I hope I can classically condition him, but it doesn't seem to be working.

I'm tired, wired, and slightly inebriated.
On another note, I could really go for a snowcone right now.

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
Perversely, the cat who lived in my house last year tried to condition me by biting me when he/she* wanted me to stop stroking
*never bothered to find out. It was always 'You, cat'

Pffffft.
I only listened to that once. And it was Jonathan Coulton covering it at PAX. Mostly it was the very catchy venue songs, especially The Egg, hence the worrisome lack of fire exits.

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
Ahh, a new thread, just as I predicted.
Very early yesterday morning, I actually walked down an empty street wearing a cat on my shoulders. That wouldn't really make it a Cat-Hat, though, but more of a Cat-Scarf...
ION: Cutovers are cutovers, and should be clearly displayed as such on the map, and not as ordinary forests, even if there are a few small trees growing on them. If I ever encounter the maker of that map, I'm going to have a few choice words for him. Orienteering with a deficient map is like writing on a computer with only half of the screen functioning - you have no idea of where you're going.

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
It's true. We have the willpower to stay up until dawn, but the downside is losing the morning.
ION:
Dad iust made me rererereorganise his bookshelf. Even though he knows that Little Brother and Little Sister have purloined many of the books that belong on it.
I have discovered the following things:
1) Little Brother and Little Sister have, between them, manaaged to rip the covers off about three-quarters of mum's paperback WoT series. And have mangled about a third of our total hardback's dustiackets. And several more are iust missing entirely.
They. Will. Be. Punished.
2) Dad has nicked all of my Discworld books bar three for his own collection. They are being taken back today.
3) Dad was also the one who stole my entire ASoIaF series. They will now be in Little Brother and Sister's rooms. They will be taken back today. And if they are damaged They. Will. Be. Punished. Severely.
4) There are a total of ten miscellaneous books that belong to me that are on his bookshelves. They are being reclaimed. As are the ones in the rest of the series' in the siblings rooms.
5) FOr some reason Dad has two copies of almost every single Belgariad and Mallorean book. And three of The Demon Lord of Karanda.
6) My Dad has almost every single Terry Brooks book he ever published. Well, I rediscovered this one. The same goes for David Gemmel and Terry Goodkind.
7) He's going to flip his lip when he sees what's happened to his (and mum's) books.
8) His old book club almost always sent him a free book which was one of the middle of a series or in two cases, the third book in a trilogy.
9) My Dad kept a soldering iron and a saw snaffled away at the very back of the bookcase. They are now on the floor where they belong.
10) I needed to get this list up to ten so I will mention that we have too many of those oddly sized paperbacks which are, in many cases larger than the hardback versions of the same books.
I am dusty, sweaty, hot, displeased and contemplating some serious vengeance.
The angry Curly avvie is coming out.

Wow. Brazeneck accepts female students? Very modern of them.

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
Well the Archchacellor feels that, as the archchancellor of the UU is so traditionalist, he'll attract more students if he accepts female students.
There are rumours that the UU, under a previous archchancellor, accepted one female student. But as the Archchancellor was there (albeit visiting his aunt at the time she supposedly gained acceptance) for so long, and hasn't seen a single female student, we dismiss the rumours as complete hokum.

But isn't he concerned that this will increase the risk of sourcery?* And this time he won't find it so easy to claim he was visiting his aunt and therefore had nothing to do with it.
*Given the average wizard, the risk probably isn't that significant, however also given the average wizard, very few wizards will realise this."'But there's still such a lot to be done...'

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
We still have single sex halls and there are charms preventing oppostite sex access.
Except for the cleaning ladies and the bledlows of course.
But as they're not magical it doesn't matter.
In addition there is a Dorm Mistress (somewhat akin to Mrs. Ludlow) and a Dorm Master.
Even a wizard knows not to cross them or the bledlows and the maids.
Too many things can go missing otherwise.
Especially as there's a meagre five courses at every meal.

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
So, today I survived the following: explosions, gas leaks, and swarms of bees.
I'm not sure, but I think I might be an action hero. And there are no words in English to describe how incredibly awesome it would be to have Arbys right now. I would gorge myself to the point of bursting, then keep another week's worth of sandwiches in my fridge to nom with reckless abandon.
Not the least of reasons being I'm tired of being told that I don't eat enough, and that I look thin and unhealthy. I'm equally tired of seeing photographs people have taken of me and recoiling in horror at what I see.
No, this doesn't belong in the Depression thread or anything like that. It's just a small ramble. Enjoy the rest of your day, folks.

Re: Masa's Massively Masterful Message Medium - Random Banter #146
Envy in a coolness-sense! The only thing I've survived today was poor maps, stoney forests and blueberry pie. Actually, I could go for even more blueberry pie. Good thing that we now have a quite large supply of blueberries, thanks to my spontanious berry-picking expeditions the last week.
