Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
I think you must have misread the tram timetable (PDF, 910k). Last tram to the station is at 2328.
Tram WILL be significantly faster than car, given the mess that is the Sheffield One-Way System!

Yep. it says so in my sig.
I don't have a Yaris. I have a Meriva. With proper planning, I reckon I can get about 7 passengers in at once, however that would mean two in the boot and four people having to squeeze into the backseat.
4 passengers at a go is more realistic.

Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
I have finished baking!
Due to various reasons I wasn't able to bake everything I promised, but we have:
11 chocolate chip muffins
12 white chocolate and raspberry muffins
16 chocolate fudge brownies
20ish triple chocolate cookies
And depending on Spanner, I may be making some laniwe (lazy dumplings) on the morning of the meetup.
ALso, due to the stupid expensiveness of the boxes I had to buy to cart everything up in, the contribution to the baking will be about £1.10, however, a pound is fine.
Hope everyone's happy with that.

Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
I made a teabread, which will also be provided, free of charge (We already had all the ingredients, and we have plenty of containers).
Wooo it's almost meetup time wooo...
Oh yeah,
Any decision on this? 1 is obviously the fallback position, since it basically requires everyone to act as they would otherwise, and then I make a phonecall and something happens. But actually deciding in advance would be nice? If nothing else, I want to let my guests know, since I definitely want them to come if possible (If for no other reason, then because it will mean they've already met some of you before the actual meetup).
Of course, the possibility of the foreign contingent being later than anticipated presents potential difficulties with possibilities other than 2a, since if we waited, it could get rather late, and if we didn't, either they'd have to just come join us straight off and not be able to dump stuff in Spanner's house, or Spanner would have to run off to let them in so they could dump stuff, then come back.Last edited by Thufir; 2010-12-02 at 01:29 PM.

Everyone! The meet-up rolls ever closer. I am now somewhat excited. This'll be my third one. Hurray!

This'll be my fifth. Second winter meet.
And I still haven't started packing. And I'm not sure where I've put Nuke Wars.
Also, I'm going to have to double check my finsnces to see if I can get Dixit tomorrow. I think I will be able to sort it, but just have to make sure.
Oh, also need to write my Christmas cards to send them off as well.*
*doesn't really have anything to do with the meetup, I just realised now.

Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
Just got up out of bed.
Still haven't packed or located all the games I need to bring.
And I have to leave in about an hour to be able to get to Paisley for the agreed pickup time to get Irbis. Then it's a couple hours in Glasgow before picking up Randman and then setting off towards Englandshire.
Slight change of time schedule since Randman has managed to sort out leaving uni earlier than previously expected, so, if we can manage to keep the time schedule suggested by Google Maps, we might actually be in Sheffield by about 8-8.30 tonight.
I'm thinking 9-9.15 would be more realistic, though.

Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
I'm aware of this, which is why I added another hour for the more realistic target time.
Adding one hour to a 4 and a half hour trip means another 20%-ish of travel time, which sounds more realistic.
I'm now pretty much packed and ready to head out.
Just need to lug all the stuff down to the car, then stop by at the bank and then the toy shop/gaming store to pick up Dixit, and then I'm on my way.

Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
Argh.
Here it's currently -3*C. Last night it was -17*C in some places.
Home it's 2*C.
Sheffield it's -5*C.
According to Googling "X weather" at least.
But I think I'll trust your friend's laptop more. I'm beginning to miss the usual December weather of miserable chill and constant cold rain.
At least it was warmer. Heh. I'm going to get home and be wearing shorts and tshirt at this rate.
EDIT:
Argh. I'm so paranoid with the trains today. Endlessly refreshing the delays section.Last edited by CurlyKitGirl; 2010-12-03 at 06:41 AM.

Re: UKitP meet VII "X-mas/Winter" Sheffield 04/12/10 *UPDATED Nov 23, 2010*
Why is it that black and white photographs made me immediately think thusly:
1920s Prohibition Chicago; UKitp meetup is a speakeasy. I bring the cake (a truly addictingdrugalcohol; the guys are dressed to the nines with suits, trilbies and so on (although more '40s/'50s style than 1920s) and for some reason, the girls are in that kind of classic black dress seen in . . . an Audrey Hepburn film? . . . smoking cigarettes in holders. Short pixie-stly haircuts and pearls abound.
Then Far Sam's Grand Slam plays.
My mind is a strange place.

Well, anybody who is anybody will soon walk through that door.
It's understandable.
And I have no packing to do today because I won't be there until tomorrow. Hilarity.
If we're needing pictures, I could bring along my camera? It's aged, but still takes good quality.
