[Rail IC] Academy City
Sakurako
At Anti-Skill
Though Sakurako tried her best to explain the circumstances behind the...robot attack (and how weird was it to actually admit to that!), but it's obvious that she was distracted by the desire to make sure that Jane was okay. After all, in a roundabout way, it was her fault that the poor girl had gotten caught up in that entire mess. That same sense of guilt plagued her back to the dorms after the interviews, until she was able to ascertain that the foreign exchange student had gotten to her room safely.
============
Saturday
It was a pleasant enough day to start off with for Sakurako, all but bouncing out of bed to grab a quick bath before heading out into the city proper with a smile on her face and uniform properly worn. After all, she was supposed to be a moral fixture for the younger students, someone they could look up to and emulate in their daily lives. Or something like that, she hadn't paid much attention during that little speech. Nor did she now, even as she exited the School Garden and out into the city proper.
After all, how was she supposed to find that cutie from the other day if she didn't go looking for her?Warriors & Wuxia: A community world-building project focused on low-magic wuxia/kung-fu action using ToB.

"So not only do you but into people that are talking, you also spy on innnocent schoolgirls! that's outrageous, and kind of a good idea. I bet you also programmed that robot that attacked me yesterday.
<Don't worry Jane, I'll protect you from this pervert>"

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
Jirou likewise was getting thoroughly fed up with the interrupting idiot that stood before him. Abandoning his apology to Jane (and the sheepish demeanour that went with it), his head snapped around to face Cale.
"Kami, how dense can one person be? I was apologising to her! You know, the exact thing you wanted me to do in the first place? Then again, maybe you didn't really want that at all; Maybe you're just trying to make a good impression on this girl by defending her from some random 'thug'.
Yeah, that's probably it. You don't want me to apologise, do you? You want me to get mad and take a swing at you, so that you've got an excuse to beat me down in front of your girl!"
"At least, that's what I'd be doing if I were him..."

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
Jane sighed, were all male ESPers like this? She remembered reading something a while back about a scientist who had calculated that ESPers were much more likely to pick a fight or use violence, or something like that. She was starting to believe it was true.
Right now though she really didn't want these two to start fighting. If anything else, Jane hated conflict. Just to make sure that the two boys didn't start attacking each other, she stood in the middle.
"Alright, I think that's enough." She said in Japanese as calm as possible. Holding up her hands in case she had to push them away from each other, not that she'd have enough power to do that. "I'm sure you two both very nice guys and this is a case of wrong time, wrong happenings." Alright Japanese wasn't really going to work here with her skill. So she continued in English. <Now what we could do now is start fighting and we'll all have to visit the hospital after said fight. Which nobody is going to like. Cale, if he send those robots I'd know. Trust me on that. Perhaps it would be a better option to work together and find the person behind the robots together, instead of fighting and letting the perpetrator go. Or we could all go our own way and leave it at that. Take your pick.>
Jane was pretty much praying right now she came across as confident and that her and her body weren't shaking like mad.

Jason walks along further down the street, feeling miserable that his plan to eat some chocolate was foiled. Just then, the a familiar sound reaches his ears. Instantly looking up, he glances over to see that he was standing outside the arcade. Suddenly giddy with excitement. He hurries in the play some games.

Hajime goes along with the man, and the questioning, answering the man's questions as much as he can, all with the same calmness he was first seen with. It's almost as if he didn't just stab a robot to death with bamboo.
Afterwards, he asks about the dissappearances recently, and how they might connect to Catarino's dissappearance.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
Walter Williamson
Outside school garden, Saturday
Walter,as usual, was alone on this Saturday. It was supposed to be his first day in the field, but Himura-sama was sick, and District 10 was... well, District 10... and he was told that they'd be patrolling around the Northern reaches anyway, so he decided to go check out the area around there. It wasn't that far a walk from his lonely appartment, and he could play his harmonicafor practice while walking around. He found the School Garden easily enough, and decided it might be good to walk around its perimeter. It was fancy enough, nice and secure... well at least he probably wouldn't have to worry too much about securing that area, and hey, pay attention to what you're playing fool, you just went an extra 8 bars into the solo, you'd better make it a bit flashy....
So, with his attention focused on the music, several things happened at nearly the same time. First mistake: he closed his eyes before going into his solo. Second mistake: he overshot the note he was aiming for to enter into the solo for "Magic Bus," so he correected that flaw using his powers. Third, on sustaining that note while correcting it, he bent forward (as is the habit of many a rock musician). Fourth, he did this while walking. Had any one of these not happened, the shock he received from headbutting the readheaded girl in front of him would not have been so bad, and maybe he wouldn't have hit her at all.
However, what happened happened, and he went down, feeling the feedback as an intense tingle. He let out a yelp that was modulated into what sounded like n eagle shoved through a Fuzzbox.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
"[I'm fine with not starting anything; That's exactly what I was doing before this guy came along. He's the one picking a fight here, not me.]"
Jirou visibly bristled at being lumped together with the moron who'd started this whole mess. Even more insulting was the implication that he'd have trouble handling the man up if it came to blows. On the other hand, getting into yet another fight now wouldn't do any good either, so he reluctantly relaxed his guard.
With the fight apparently averted, Jirou proceeded to erase Cale from his mind and focus all attention on his much prettier companion. He had no idea why she was still trying to recruit him for her investigations, but the offer certainly sounded better coming from her than it had from Cale. On reflection, there would surely be no harm in at least discussing the matter with her.
"[So you're looking for people to help track down the robots? Truth be told I've got a score to settle with them myself. Why don't we talk about it over a game of Mahjong? Come on, follow me.]"
With that Jirou eagerly walked off towards the nearby Mahjong parlour. Robot conspiracy or not, there was no sense in standing out in the cold when the tiles beckoned.

Jane looked from the guy, to her list, then to Cale. She didn't really feel like going after those murderous robots but at that moment it was the only thing she could think of to make them stop. It was a bit too late to duck out now, maybe she could complete her list later today or tomorrow.
<Uhm...> She looked at Cale. <I guess we got a lead?> She then looked at the boy walking away from them. <Wait up! What's your name? And what's Mahjong?>

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
"You actually play Mahjong, My, you seem to be a bit more civilized then you appear." Cale replied to The young man's proposal while starting to walk after him.
"< Mahjong can be seen as the local version of poker. It is a gambling game based on both luck and skill. Its rules are rather convoluted, but most people seem to be able to get by with just screaming Riichi and making intense faces.>"
Cale explained to Jane, while signaling for her to walk along.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
Jirou awaited them inside the parlour, already seated at one of the tables. The walls of tiles were set up and one of the other patrons had filled the seat to his right, so all that remained was for the two of them to take their places. He motioned for Jane to sit opposite him, an expectant look on his face. Cale wasn't given so much as a glance.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
Jane sat down opposite of the guy who was yet to disclose his name to her and looked around curiously. She then looked at him, Cale and the guy sitting at the table. A familiar wave of embarrassment hit her and the feeling that everybody was staring at her crept up.
<Well yesterday apparently there was a killer robot going crazy at schoo.> She stared at the unknown man and wondered if he was bothered by the fact that they were speaking in English. <Given from what you told us earlier we weren't the only ones either. So perhaps it was a multiple attack.> She twirled her index finger through a strain of hair. It was time to actually start bluffing because she was out of information already. <So, that could mean it was an actual attack with intend behind it. If that was the case one should find out if it was just to cause mayhem or if the robots actually had a goal. If not, then the robots might have gone haywire or someone messed up big time. Though I can't really imagine anyone being stupid enough to make such a big mistake with a robot who spits -fire- and has a -chainsaw-.>
Jane fell silent for a moment and then looked at the table and how it was set up. <Hey, is this like Rummykub... uh... what was your name again?>

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
When Jane glanced up again she would find that her feeling of being watched wasn't entirely in her head. For some reason both Jirou and the anonymous player were staring at her with a slightly unnerving intensity, as if waiting for some sort of signal. Eventually Jirou tapped the table expectantly, pointing to the fourteen tiles that had at some point appeared in front of Jane.
"Kiyoshi Jirou. [You gonna deal?]"
It so happened that Jane had been chosen as East for this round, and thus the first tile of the game would be played by her. The reason everyone was staring was because (thanks to Jirou's chronic inability to pay attention) nobody except Cale knew that she didn't know the rules. And thus their eyes continued to bore into her skull, silently compelling her to deal the tile...Last edited by Anyr; 2010-11-25 at 09:17 PM.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
Jane nodded. While others wouldn't know a difference in Jane's posture, inside her head there was a lot going on. The giant gate that she had build to lock away to constantly transmitting and receiving antenna was opening a bit. The background noise in her head suddenly peeked until Jane had filtered out Cale's thoughts. He wouldn't even know she was picking up his thoughts. The only thing right now that was doing was picking up his ideas so as long as Cale didn't think about anything else, that would be the only thing Jane would hear.
She looked at the tiles that were 'hers' and grabbed out a couple and laid them down. It was a very basic move. Now it was time to try and get information out of Jirou.
<So I understand you ran into the robots too?> She said to him while observing his posture. She felt like a cop. The gate in her head was closing again. Jane didn't want to start cheating.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
As soon as Jane's opening tile hit the table all the hanging tension vanished. The anonymous patron followed suit, and soon the click of tiles and the sound of calls filled the air. Now that the game had begun, Jirou seemed a lot more willing to talk.
"[More like they ran into me. One of them jumped me in an alley somewhere. Big mistake; I tore that thing to scrap in nothing flat. And do you know what I found after I did?]"
He let the question hang in the air, all the while watching both her face and her plays.

Jane hid a smile, it felt like Jirou liked to keep things mysterious. But she wanted to hear what he had to say, so she'd have to play along. Both with the game and the conversation. The game wasn't that bad once you understood the different combinations.
<No, what did you find out?>

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
Jirou smiled widely, eager to divulge what he knew. It was nice to have an appreciative audience for a change.
"[Well, when I checked through the chassis-]"
He suddenly hesitated. Something was nagging at his attention, drawing his eyes back to the table. They roamed across the dealt tiles, seeing how few of them there were, and all at once he knew what was bothering him. It was only turn six of the first game; They'd barely started to play. So why was he blurting out everything he knew so early? He quickly swallowed what he'd been about to say and changed course.
"[-But listen to me, rambling on and on about myself all the time. I bet you've got a few stories to tell as well, right?]"
That's right, there was no need to rush. He was always making that mistake outside the table, without the game's flow to focus his attention. It was always so much easier to focus in here...Last edited by Anyr; 2010-11-26 at 12:24 PM.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
A chassis... Jane glanced at Cale in the hope he know what it was and made a mental note to herself to check that out later.
"[-But listen to me, rambling on and on about myself all the time. I bet you've got a few stories to tell as well, right?]"
She narrowed her eyes while making her next move. He was dragging it out. While she wasn't really sure why he'd want to do that. Though somewhere in the back of her mind Jane liked it that she had to try and get the information out of this guy. Sure she could get all the information she'd want in under a minute by just reading his mind, but this was more interesting.
A smile appeared on her face, looking like she was self conscious again. Back to her awkward self from before. Alright, she could play like that too. After all how hard could it be to play herself?
<Oh uh... I don't know... hehe...> An awkward grin on her face. <I'm really boring to be honest.> Besides she wasn't really going to tell anybody how she ended up here. That was just... painful to think back to.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
<Wait a second.. are you actually saying that the culprit was stupid enough to leave a mark on the chassis of his combat robots? I thought that anyone capable of building a robot would be smart enough to remove simple stuff like that, so I didn't check the chassis.
And there's no need to be embarassed Jane, I bet you're really interesting. I'd like to know more about you >
That damn Jirou, He probably arranged the seating just so that he could easily talk to Jane.... It was something Cale wished he'd have thought of himself.
Atleast his current hand would have a nice surpris for the other players....Last edited by Rhydeble; 2010-11-26 at 02:33 PM.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
Jirou studiously ignored Cale's words, although he had to marvel at the way he kept jumping to conclusions. The second that the chassis had been mentioned the idiot had immediately assumed it was a maker's mark, even while admitting that that made no sense. It was a shame that (by sheer luck) his stupid idea just so happened to be right, or Jirou would have loved to mock him for it.
Regardless, his attention was soon back on Jane; Jirou felt a pang of regret upon seeing her flustered reaction. Wasn't he supposed to be the good guy here? Yet here he was, playing mind games with a poor, innocent girl. Assuming the worst about her when she'd shown nothing but good intentions so faher rhythm wasn't changing.
"She looks so lost and confused right now...So why are her tiles still going down like clockwork? Flustered people don't keep the same rhythm; They hesitate, lose focus and make mistakes. Her face is all scrunched up, but her game hasn't changed a bit."
There was clearly more to this girl than her awkward smile showed. Of course, the same could be said for him; The Jirou who now regarded Jane with skeptical eyes seemed somehow different from the blundering loudmouth who'd accosted her in the street. His gaze had grown sharper, his voice quieter and his movements less overt. He had an air about him of someone in their element; Of a soldier fighting on old, familiar ground.
Not that he wasn't enjoying himself; This was actually surprisingly fun. It felt like they both knew that the other one was pretending, which turned the whole thing from a serious battle of wits into a piece of improvised theatre. In keeping with this, he gave his 'co-star' an encouraging smile (while still acting as if Cale hadn't spoken) and urged her onwards.
"[Oh come on, don't be modest. Try starting simple and working your way up. Where are you from? What's your favourite colour? You got any family?]"

Jane had been paying close attention to Jirou's behavior and was keeping the atmosphere back in her mind. Feeling the vibes of the people around her. She didn't know how, but he knew she was pretending. Fine, time to raise the stakes.
<Hehe...> Jane responded flustered and refused to drop her persona. <Well uhm... let's see... I dunno, it feels a bit awkward to talk about my past, but alright... uhm...> She looked at her tiles. <Well, my full name is Jane Walker and I'm from Great Brittain... London to be more precise. My favorite color is red and I got a mom and dad. Uhm...> Lets see if she could get him to play along. <This is a bit awkward... How about you?>

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
Jirou had to remind himself several times that Jane's perturbed appearance was just an act. He was certain that without the calming influence of the game he'd have been completely taken in by it. By contrast, his own little act was fairly bland; He'd have to do something about that.
"[Wow, all the way from London? I've never even left this city. No family either, at least none that I know about. Pretty boring, huh? As for my favourite colour, it's right over there; Pon!]"
The tile just played by the anonymous patron vanished into Jirou's hand, only to be slammed against the left side of the table along with two others. When his hand withdrew it left behind three brightly painted green dragons.
"[Always had a soft spot for green. Just like those eyes of yours...]"
Actually, his favourite colour was red as well, but he knew a good dramatic opportunity when he saw one. He also wasn't really flirting with Jane, and he trusted her to realise that; It was just another line in the unseen script. Not that that clingy friend of hers would necessarily know that, of course...

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
This guy was good. Going along in the conversation and then trying to tip her off balance. It was weird though because normally Jane would have taken this flirting seriously, but something about this situation made it different. Given any other circumstance, Jane would have been a flustered, blundering idiot. The kind that she now used to play her act. She wasn't quite sure what it was about this situation that made her feel like she actually had a spine. To be honest she was starting to like it. If only she knew what it was about this moment that made her act so... sneaky.
Jane giggled and stared at the table. <Ehehe... uh... well... I mean... no, no, no I don't think they're that pretty. They're just... green.> She leaned a bit forward to the table, knocking over the tiles she had kept there. Gasping, she quickly tried to stack them again and looked around if nobody had seen it. Jane wasn't even sure of herself if she did that on purpose or not. <But uh...> Jane looked flustered. <Well this city isn't that bad. Certainly not boring. It's so advanced compared to anything that I've seen... It's really getting some used to living here.> She smiled and nodded at Cale. <You can ask him. Yesterday with those robots... they frightened me so much. I think my scream could be hurt three blocks down.> She sighed. <It really is different around here. Makes me wonder what I'm doing here sometimes.> This wasn't an act Jane had to admit, she did feel like that.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
Finally Jane gave him some attention again, how nice. Cale looked at his tiles and started planning a counter to Jirou's tiles.
<I do wonder what the purpose was of those robots, and why they attacked where they did. Ours ran wild quite close to a school, although its hard not to do that in Academy city. The problem I have is that it was near Tokiwadai, wich is known for harboring lots of high-level Espers. I'm afraid that someone might be collecting combat-data. Where did your bot strike Jirou?>
Cale said to jirou while studying his facial expression. He had heard of it, but thought it only happened on TV-shows. It was as if the boy sitting on that chair was a wholly different person, a competent one.
<Though If the culprit was gathering combat-data, I wonder why he didn't start out by having them attack low-level Espers, so that he wouldn't lose the robots on the first try.
Now it might also be possible that the robots have gone rogue, but that's way too much zeroth law for me.>Last edited by Rhydeble; 2010-11-27 at 08:07 AM.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
So it seemed that the conversation had at last come full circle. Glancing down at the table, Jirou couldn't help but feel that the whole thing had moved in sync with the game below. In a few seconds the East First round would be over and, appropriately enough, it looked as if it would end in a draw.
"Yeah, that's this skit all over: Fun and fast-paced, but nothing actually gets done. Ah well, it was still a blast to do. Time to get down to business."
Just as he thought this the last tile fell, signalling the end of the round. The carefully built arrays which everyone had been constructing promptly disintegrated, shoved carelessly into the gaping hole in the centre of the table. Barely five seconds later they rose again, transformed into fresh, pristine walls and hands; Ready to be broken apart all over again. Such was the way of Mahjong.
Jirou spoke again, but this time his words sounded far more genuine. The previous round of banter had convinced him that this girl was on the level, and genuinely worth helping; Not only that, she was a lot of fun as well. After humouring him in his little games for all this time, she deserved something to show for it.
"[Sounds like you've had a hard time. It must be tough being so far from home and surrounded by weirdos like us. I'm not much of a problem solver, but if there's anything I can do to help, just ask. F'rinstance, maybe we can work out where those robots were coming from. Mine was near Tokiwadai too, so maybe they're based around there?]"Last edited by Anyr; 2010-11-27 at 12:35 PM.

Re: [Rail IC] Academy City
<To be honest I'm not entirely sure. I kind of darted away pretty quickly. Like I said to Cale, it's not like you see a lot of rampaging robots where I come from.> She looked at Cale and felt a bit guilty. He had been really nice to her and cause of that whole interrogation thing she had been more focused on Jirou. <By the way Cale, thank you. I'm guessing you assisted the others in taking down that thing. That's a lot more brave then I did. Do you have any idea where it came from?> She looked at Jirou again. <Maybe if we'd cross-reference we can determine where they came from.>
