There was a lot of information coming to Cale at once.

The mental erasure, the quickened ageing, the fact that it coincided with Jane coming to AC. It was a lot to take in.

"You have a lot of thoughts mister Yamato. In fact, you're head is swarming with theory's about who did what and why. But then again, you're a cop. A cop should have proof before he slings around baseless accusations. so why don't you look at a camera to see what happened? Why don't you look into the fact that adults were using powerful ESP, tectokinesis even? I'm pretty sure that you're in way above your head, can't even begin on a case you started three months ago, and now you hear about one single panicking Esper and you decided she's guilty.

I'm sorry detective, but law-enforcement just doesn't work like that. If you get locked into tunnel-vision just because you finally have a possible clue, you'll never solve another case.
Why did you focus upon Jane that much? Because she's not Japanese? because she's a girl? because she's, god forbid, a CHILD? Do you really think that a panicking child is a better source for a kidnapping case then scientists who are willing to send death-dealing robots into the street just for fun?
Why are you looking towards school-children when you're obviously after someone doing illegal immoral experiments?"

Rachel happily took Jirou's dishes and brought them to the clean up belt before walking after him and led him towards the waiting room where Jirou could wait for Anthony to come out of the okay. But the nurse was still so excited by Jirou's presence that she couldn't quite stop talking about the case.
"I'm sure that boy is going to be very happy when he gets to hear someone managed to rescue him. Poor kid, he probably has to deal with this drama all the time, if he indeed is a kid of a politician you know? People like that always get targeted by kidnappers and kids are usually easiest to kidnap. I wonder if he was an Esper or not, perhaps he had a really lame power that couldn't help him from defending himself. You know, like you have that power that you can make solids disappear, which I think is probably one of the most powerful powers ever. You could walk through anything and bullets wouldn't hurt you if you were quick enough!"
In the meantime Rachel had led Jirou through the halls of the hospital. They were mostly very quiet and only a few doctors or visitors would walk through them. They ended up in front of an elevator and waited for it to open.
"But yeah I think if that boy had a power he probably was a very low level or it wasn't very useful. Are most Esper jealous of your powers? I'm sure I would like to have a power like that. But then again, I'm not an Esper!"
The door of the elevator opened and it appeared to be completely empty. Rachel pressed on the upper floor button after she was sure that Jirou was inside.
"They put him on the highest floor." She explained. "Safest place for a person like him, unless they try to kidnap him with a helicopter I mean. They'd have to get him through the whole hospital, but don't tell anybody! That's really top secret information, only me, you and a couple of important surgeons and doctors know about this." She smiled happily to Jirou that she knew something important like this. "The upper floor gets used for a lot of these kind of things. I'm actually in charge of some of the patients there! Like there's about 20 comatose teenagers in one area of the floor too. Such a sad story, it looks like their minds have been completely erased! Worse though is that all these kids disappeared for a few weeks before they found them back again. Just dumped in the streets, can you imagine? Then again, they're better off then those other kids they found. Those kids apparently had aged so fast that they died of age! And they were teens when they disappeared!" Her smile had weakened a bit, but then grew strong again when she looked at her hero Jirou. "I guess that's why I'm so relieved you're here with that kid. When I heard about that kidnapping I was so sure that you had prevented another one of those, but then I heard he's the son of a politician so I guess it's probably a political kidnapping. Oh look! We're here!"

    "...Twenty..."

Jirou's own smile wasn't doing much better than Rachel's. It stayed fixed on his face while he stood behind her, looking as if someone had just punched him in the stomach. Luckily he'd been punched in his actual stomach plenty of times before, so he at least managed to keep moving when the doors had opened. Even so, his step as he followed Rachel had a lot less spring in it than before. A minute ago he'd been the brave foiler of a nefarious kidnapping plot; Now he was just the kid who'd stopped a large pile of bodies from getting slightly larger.

But that wasn't important right now. Compared to the roomful of husks which Rachel had described, Jirou's personal prestige wasn't worth the slightest mention. The thought that someone out there was systematically burning through the youth of Academy City and throwing them away like empty sweet wrappers was...No, just thinking about it made him nauseous. Whoever did this was far beyond simple criminality; This was evil in its purest form.

"Someone needs to pay for this. Someone is going to pay for this. I don't care how long it takes; These people need to suffer."

"I wouldn't have expected you to say anything less then that." Yamato said, looking unimpressed by Cale's words. "Your condescending behavior will get the better of you, mark my words. You really think I'm 'just focusing' on Walker because she's a girl or a student? You really think she's the brain behind the scheme kid? No, I don't, but this wouldn't be the first time we've got a telepathic Esper making a complete chaos of the city. Coincidentally she was Walker's age too. No, I think she's part of a grander scheme, but find the puppet and follow the strings to the master." He smirked. "You have no idea what a powerful Esper can do. If an Esper like Walker falls into the wrong hands we're ALL in serious trouble. But you seem to be really sure about her huh? I guess I'm already too late for you if she has her hands on your mind." Yamato felt slightly agitated about Cale's criticism. True he hadn't taken the reports of the accident but he was sure he'd get to hear those later on. Also if there are adult Espers involved it would make his surge drastically easier. There weren't a lot of those around. "Telepathic Espers can appear to be anything the want to be. Her 'panicky' appearance might be a complete act and you'd never know it. She can implant memories in your brain that seem like they've always been there. She can control your thoughts and make them feel like your own. She could be talking through you right now and you wouldn't notice it. He looked calmly at Cale. "I don't trust you Schmirnovich, I wouldn't be surprised if you're being played by her. You have a lot of power in your hands and she and her superiors could make use of it."

Moreau walked towards the piece of roof first after she took out some evidence bags and a camera from her suitcase. She wished the crime scene hadn't been so big, she'd probably be stuck with researching the alley all by herself. Then again, that would mean more credit to her! So why was she complaining?

"Hmmm..." She said while inspecting the piece of roof. "It looks like it caved in due to damage of the building. Do you know if the sound suspect or the earthquake suspect caused damage to the walls?"

It seemed that Rachel was completely oblivious to her feelings while she escorted Jirou to a separate part of the hallway where a bunch of chairs were standing in a semi circle. In the middle was a table with a bunch of magazines.

"I think one of the doctors will be here soon to inform you on the patient, Jirou." She said in her familiar chirpy voice. "It will probably be another 20 minutes or something. I have to go check on one of the patients. We had another comatose victim this morning. Young girl, an Anti-Skill officer reported her in. She was apparently dumped into the streets wrapped in paper by some light blue truck." Suddenly Rachel grabbed Jirou's hand and scribbled some numbers on it with a pen. "Here's my pager number. If you need something just let me know!" She smiled and then walked towards a door on the other side of the hallway.

Rachel's departure made Jirou's newfound depression all the more pronounced. Her cheery demeanour would have been very welcome at the moment. Instead he was left alone with his thoughts, none of which were exactly pleasant. Try as he might he couldn't turn his mind away from the image of all those bodies, lined up somewhere on this very floor. For all he knew they could be a few feet away, separated only by one of the corridor's walls.

The magazines were no help at all as a distraction. Despite the comfiness of the chairs, it wasn't long before Jirou had left his seat and started pacing. Not so much out of irritation, but more out of a desire to be ready to act. He walked the corridor like a policeman patrolling his beat. There was nothing he could do to help all those kids who had already been taken, but there was at least one who still had a chance. If someone thought that Anthony would be as easy to snatch as the others, they were in for a very big disappointment.

    "娼婦の息子!"

The initial jolt of the earthquake had passed, and Shelley was just picking herself up from the sidewalk when the obnoxious high-pitched shriek started. She had promised herself not to freak out about noises today, but this one came out of nowhere, and sweet Christmas was it ever loud.

As she pried her hands off of her ears to tough it out, she noticed that everyone else was starting to have a similar reaction - cringing, covering their ears, shouting, "aaaaa, what is that," that sort of thing. It certainly wasn't just another dog whistle... it sounded more like... an opera singer.

Not a good opera singer, but it was definitely a voice. Of course, considering that it was still a pretty high note that it was missing, Shelley imagined that it would actually be well outside the human voice range and sound way different to anyone who wasn't a mutant academy reject.

But who or what was it? Where was it coming from? Without giving it too much thought, Shelley continues her jog in the direction of the bizarre sound.

    About 25 minutes ago:

By the time Shelley gets to ground zero, she is already too late for the action, which in hindsight is probably a good thing. She does, of course, notice the fissures and cracks associated with the earthquake-stomp from earlier. She already figured it wasn't a normal geological phenomenon, but the radiating nature of the damage proves it.

"What happened here?" she asks to no one in particular.

“I think a fight,” John responded absently to a girl that had just arrived on the scene. He didn’t look at her as he said it, still trying to figure things out, the gears in his mind clanking as he was rationalizing what was going on. It could’ve been a small fight but the scale of it seemed a bit extreme for a simple scuffle. But there was little he could make out from just the damage and his view point of the scene.

He turned to the stranger to his left and asked her, “What do you think happened?”

((OOC: I am assuming this is happening about the time my character is at the scene, since I have no idea about the passage of time that is going on.))

"Well, from the vantage point I had," says Shelley, "I think a meteorite stuck the ground, cratered, shouted in pain and vanished. Of course, that's pretty obviously wrong."

By now, most of the initial panic has died down a bit, and the screams of fear and pain has been mostly replaced by consoling assurances and the occasional call for attention, which made for much better ambiance. Shelley can also pick out some vague plaintive whimpers, but the professionals and the one fast kid seem to have it under control loading people onto stretchers.

She looks around at the fissures and cracks. "Was is just a really localized earthquake? Or did someone set off a bomb underground or something?"

"Are you the one who accompanied mr. Jackson?"

Jirou snapped off a quick nod while pacing forward to meet the doctor halfway. His outward demeanour was energetic as usual, but also attentive. The situation's enormity had managed to pierce his standard veil of distraction, giving him a level of focus not normally seen outside the Mahjong table.

"Well..." Moreau bagged the gun in an evidence bag. "It's a very expensive and very new drug. I haven't seen it in use personally, cause mostly big governmental organizations have access to it, but what I heard is that it temporarily suppresses the powers of an Esper. Probably to make sure that if one goes berserk, they can contain that person."

There was a pregnant pause while Jirou absorbed this latest piece of news. So, not only did the kidnappers have at least three seriously strong Espers on their side, but they also had a way of depowering Espers who went up against them? Fantastic. Still, he didn't waste any time bemoaning his terrible luck; As bad as this setback was, at least it might provide some new leads.

"Last I checked, drugs like that weren't exactly being handed out on street corners. How could anyone get their hands on something that rare?"

"That would be too normal of government people! They must at least be using it for something, like tranquilisers! Or maybe they put it in people's coffee?"

Now that Cale had finally gotten rid of that annoying inspector, the rest of this conversation would, hopefully, be easier. At least this new anti-skill woman didn't seem as threatening.

"Indeed, we are highly suspicious of this turn of events too." The medic agreed. "We've informed Anti-Skill of our findings. They've send some of their people here to take a report from you on the events and to investigate the matter further. Also, the parents of the patient have been contacted and they should be here tomorrow morning. When Anti Skill has arrived, they'll assign people to protect the boy so they can take your statement and relieve you of your duty."

The woman nodded. While in a much more friendlier tone, Cale got his statement taken of what had happened that day. The woman listened intently and only seemed to ask direct questions related to the incident while making a lot of notes. When she was done she stood up and proceeded to gently lead Cale out of the interrogation room. "Thank you so much for giving your statement." She said calmly and paused a second before opening the door. "Yamato is... kind of a one mind track guy. I reckon he was less then polite to you during the interrogation, my apologies for this."

After a long search on the internet, Jane and Jason slowly managed to find multiple news sites that reported the events of that day. Messages of a giant earthquake devastating the street were covering the local news sites with vivid pictures of the incident. Some sites were speculating the cause, while others noted that the earthquake had only effected this particular street and not the rest of the district. The pictures showed various people injured or panicking.

Jirou waited for his new instructions with a good degree of eagerness. Still, it was a little disappointing that someone else would be taking over later; Although he was relieved to hear that the case would be in the hands of professionals, Jirou couldn't help feeling a strong desire to see it through to the end. Once the Anti-Skill arrived they'd probably shunt him aside like any other civilian, and that would be the end of his role in this affair. Well, unless he decided to take matters into his own hands...

"not a problem, thank you." Cale said to the women while walking out and grabbing his PDA as fast as he could, and going outside to see if Jane was still at the café.

a shadowy room in a shadowy building in a shadowy city in a shadowy country in a shadowy part of europe

"boss! boss!", the minion said, while running inside. "trouble in the AC" he said, while handing over some papers.

In his shadowy chair, a shadowy man stroking a shadowy cat started reading the report... Interesting...

It wasn't long till Anti Skill officers had arrived at the hospital. Two buff black suits quickly took over for Jirou as Anthony's personal bodyguards, while a third brought him to a quiet room for questioning. The man seemed very interested in Jirou's story and was writing down everything that had been said. He even wrote down the thugs' descriptions in the hopes that this way they'd be able to find the culprits. After the interrogation they thanked Jirou gratefully and wrote down his phone number so they could contact him once the parents of the victim had arrived, or if they needed him for anything else.

The ride to the headquarters was a quick one. Once inside Moreau let Katsu to her office, which was a lot more messy then one would assume from an Anti Skill officer. The whole place was cluttered with papers, files, dirty coffee mugs and even a half eaten sandwich.

On the wall hang 16 pictures of children. They seemed to vary a lot in age, gender and nationality. There was even a kid in there with what looked like a broken nose and another who had a tattoo in his neck.

Moreau sat down behind her desk and quickly tried to dispose of the clutter that was lying on top of it, pushing it inside a drawer. Then from a big pile of binders she pulled out a mugshot book.

"Right." She said when she was finally ready. "I got some pictures in this book of well known criminals in Academy City. Flip through them and see if you can perhaps recognize any of them. If not, I'll send in someone who can make a sketch."

    Location unknown

In a large boardroom a man was sitting while watching a giant screen. On it, there were scenes of two thugs fighting Cale, Jirou and Katsu over the body of Anthony Jackson. The images were shaky, but clear, as if someone was running around with a camera. Sometimes the images would fade to black for a second, but then quickly focus back to the scene.

A voice seemed to vibrate through the speakers, "I'm sorry kids... it's time to go. We'll see you... next time." The three boys suddenly seemed to relax, while the camera was still being pointed at them.

The two thugs next to the camera seemed to take in a deep breath, as if they'd had trouble breathing before. One of them walked behind Cale, holding up his arm as if he wanted to smack him on the head.

"Don't be a fool." The voice said. "If you touch him, they'll know we're still here, we have to report to the boss." And with that, the screen turned black.

The man leaned against his index fingers with his chin, seemingly in deep thought.
"So... this is why the newest subject hasn't arrived?"
his whispering voice seemed to ask a young brunette woman with glasses standing in a corner.

"Yes sir." She said in a quivering voice, her face was pale with dark circles under her eyes. "These three boys seemed to have interfered with capturing the target."

"A shame, I have to say, but maybe for the best."
The woman seemed to look relieved at these words. "Robin, who was the boy that dissolved the guns to dust?"

"I do not know sir, but I'm sure I'd be able to use my powers to find him."

"Very wise... Young Anthony's powers are... quite rare... But I think this particular Esper might be able to raise more money... perhaps... Do a check on the other two too, just in case... Now... where are One, Six and Twelve?"

"They're almost here sir. I think it will be another 5 minutes." Robin seemed to have another nervous look on her face.

"Send them here when they arrive... I so dislike failure when it happens, you know? Also... prepare Twenty... I have a feeling I'll be needing her services soon."

The young woman nodded and bowed before walking out of the board room. "Very well sir."

Katsu looks curiously at the various interesting things around Moreau's office, almost deciding to taste the sandwich before being brought back to reality by the mugshot book.

"On it! I'll find them in no time!"

He picks up the book and almost lives up to those words by flipping the pages so fast one'd worry why they aren't catching on fire.

A shadowy figure in a shadowy chair was just finishing his read-through...
three incidents in three days... That in itself did not worry him, the fact that they all got reported did. The boy was slacking, and seemed to forget the fact that police were BAD. not just bad news, but also just plain bad at their work.

luckily there seemed to be some sort of connection between the cases. The robots also attacked a certain other boy, a native of the country. Then security feeds of the next day in the cover-room of one of his gambling parlors had seen this "dust" person together with the son, and "dust" as well as one other were there in the fight as well.

The shadowy figure called one of his more competent minions.
"Find out who this "wind" child is at once, and bring me a phone"

When he finally got his phone (untraceable of course) he dialed the number the report already contained, the number of this "Dust" child

"Well, I guess that's the end of that."

Jirou emerged from the hospital with a dark cloud over his head. Still slightly shaken by what had transpired inside, he took a deep breath of the midday air to calm himself. The feeling of disappointment from before also remained, no matter how irrational it was. Taken logically, there really wasn't anything to complain about; He'd played a valuable part in seeing justice done and received plenty of recognition for it. Furthermore, he was exhausted from said efforts and in no condition to continue them. It was unquestionably the right call to leave this matter in the hands of trained professionals. And yet...

Before this latest moping session could gather full steam it was interrupted by a light vibration from Jirou's jacket pocket; His phone was ringing. Abandoning his current train of thought, Jirou hurriedly grabbed the device with all the speed at his command. It was amazing what being in Harada Rin's phonebook could do to a person's reaction time.

    "Hello?"
