I think I somehow got the idea that he'd achieved immortality somehow or something, like that one Epic Destiny in 4.0. Or maybe I just expected the next comic to address that. I dunno. It makes mildly more sense than some of the WMG theories.

If he'd heard about Matthew-the-hero, that could explain why he insists on being called Matt, but I don't think that's the case.

Maybe he was rejected by his elven (or both elven and human) peers for coming from an interracial couple. Although it would be very sad if he blamed his elven parent for the whole thing.

Matt is somehow a half-elf/twin of a half-elf/Matthew is actually a dragon who disguised himself as a half-elf then 1800 years later took the form of the human Matt and is pretending to hate elves for some scheme for the greater good in some way./ooze/Matt is a time traveler caught in a loop where he somehow goes back in time, becomes a half-elf and becomes the hero of legend and causing the conditions of his birth 1800 years later through his own legend./Matt is a Doctor Who-esque Elf who is disguised as a human and pretends his hate for elves is just jealousy when he actually knows the dark truth of his people and escaped from them because of it.
