Drider
The Claw drider pauses for a moment, makes eye-contact with Lumpy, taps the patch strapped around it's head, and then points menacingly at him.
Undercommon, loud enough for Lumpy to hear: I be seeing you..
He turns and darts down a tunnel, maniacal cackling fading away as the Driders carry their victim deep into the winding cave system. Two of the spiders follow them, the others hold their ground, waving their forelegs ominously in the air until the party attacks them with ranged weaponry or moves from the cave.

Skull Drider
Skull drider stopped just for moment in its tunnel, yanking the skull from around its neck. With a fiendish smile it placed the object on the ground facing the path they were taking. The lizardman and Trinark (wielding the heavy crossbow like a club) finish off the last remaining spider inside the cave.
The others rush through the passage burned through the webbing by Darius.
Lumpy, with his darkvision, spots the driders fleeing with a small squirming bundle that he assumes is Lissa. The driders head down the beach toward the tunnel that leads back the way the party had come.
Between your group and the fleeing driders are a quartet of giant spiders blocking the way. The spiders keep their distance but prevent passage away from the cave entrance.
The lizardman dispels the fungal tendrils, freeing Thokk and Linda ...

Realising that speed is of the essence if Lissa is to be saved, Linda uses her magic in an attempt to blast away the spiders blocking the cave's entrance from as far as possible so that the spiders' poison does not prove a danger she must face.

Vexation is clearly etched in the ichor-smeared face of the lizardman.He utters a simple prayer to Semuaya for his next strike to be true and charges with a huge leap, attacking with the savagery only a lizardkin could muster.
OOC: Cast guidance for +1 to attack and then jump-charge and melee. his shield is slung behind so -2 to AC. and dodge vs the one he focuses on attacking so +1 ONLY against that one. When the battle is over he will stop to pick up the skull and crush it. He KNOWS the implication of the drider leaving it behind and will roar out.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the burly half-orc manages to roll his eyes at the claw drider's bravado, even as he disengages his flail from the pile of spider-bits he's made. With a primal roar befitting his ancestry, Lumpy charges, narrowing his profile as best he can to squeeze through the small hole in the webbing, and without pause rushes his way through the remainder of the spiders setting up guard, hell-bent on catching up to the Driders.
(OOC: Lumpy will try to charge past what's left of the spiders after Linda's spell, taking whatever AoOs they get on him, or overrunning if he has to.)

Achkby siezes his wand and heads out of the webbing after the others. Seing them carry off Lissa, he begins cursing the Driders in rapid Draconic, even as he hastens after them.
"Fiends! Beasts! Marauding cowards, only capable of taking hostages, are you? Well, you've not heard the last of me!"

When he encounters the menacing wall of spiders, he pulls up short to let his larger friends deal with them, and blindly sends another bolt of acid sizzling off after the malevolent arachnids, hoping he can get lucky enough to take out one more...
[OOC]Casting Melf's Acid Arrow (+6 to hit) after the retreating Spider/Drider party. Assuming, of course, that I sort of know where they are. If not, he'll Enfeeble a close spider.
The second round of acid didn't take out either of the spiders I hit, did it? :-/[/OOC]DON'T PANIC

Fizahn and Lumpy are the first to exit the cave opening. The four spiders give way as they charge, but Lumpy notices something strange - one of the spiders is pulling a silk thread that leads up to the rocks over the cave opening ...
Before he can shout a warning, a pile of rocks falls down from above knocking both the gnome and the half-orc to the ground.
The falling rocks throw off Darius' aim, and his flaming arrows richochet off the pebbly beach without striking any of the spiders.
Linda pushes forward, stepping over the fallen rocks, invoking a swarm of snow and ice that envelops three of the spiders.
Achkby burns the fourth spider with another acid stream.
Leaping over the bodies of Fizahn and Lumpy, Aeroz and the lizardman charge forward and make short but messy work of two of the frost covered spiders.
The remaining two spiders are fried by blasts from the Elthans.
Although it has taken only a few moments to destroy the monstrous spiders, the delay has allowed the driders and two of their spiders to disappear into the tunnel about 50 yards away ...
Sheyra and Trinark help Fizahn and Lumpy to their feet. They are bruised and dusty, but seem otherwise unhurt. Thokk looks around frustrated seeing no additional spiders to kill ...
OOC: Combat summary ...
CR2 trap - +12 attack, 2d6 damage hits Fizahn with a 29 (17 + 12) for 7 damage and hits Lumpy with a 17 (5 + 12) for 5 damage.
Darius misses with a natural 2 and 1. Ouch!
Linda casts Snilloc's snowball swarm hitting three spiders for 9, 8, and 8 damage.
Aeroz and the lizardman hit for totally irrelevant damage, killing two spiders. The Elthans magic missile the other two spiders.
Lissa's escape artist check: 7.

If we keep running blindly we'll fall to more traps-and that won't be helping Lissa. Please, let's try to be careful in these tunnels. The driders surely have taken a hostage to drive us to their own battleground.

Lumpy staggers back up to his feet, an unsightly collection of welts and bruises on his bare scalp and back to complement his still raw nose. He rakes one hand through his beard, muttering low and vitriolic in orcish before switching to common, "Well, either ya hurry or ya don't. If ya don't plan on hurrying, I might as well take the time ta put my armor on, eh? I mean, what's five or six more minutes gonna be? They have ta set the table before dinner and all."

Being careful is all fine and dandy when you're just taking a little walk in the underdark, but when you're fighting giant spiders, at some point you've got to take risks. We weren't going to get any closer to Lissa by standing back in the mouth of this infernal cave and... and menacing them, or something."
Then he turns back to the group at large, and asks quickly, "So are we going on after her?"

Lumpy retrieves his things as well, awkwardly strapping his armor up as well, obviously not used to trvelling while NOT wearing it. After a moment's pause, he grabs Lissa's things as well, "Trap? Probably. But armor's only a problem if yer afraid'a getting hit, and I got a Drider who still owes me another eye. Get yer stuff if yer coming."
He doesn't wait though, setting off towards the tunnel, scanning the ground before him.

The lizardkin drops the crushed bits of skull in his hand and hangs his head, panting as his roar ends. As the others begin to join him at the entrance to the cave mouth, he catches his pack which one of the them tosses him.
He utters no words. Standing, baring his clenched teeth and violently bulging neck. His back spines fully erect. Those who've known him are unable to recall him this agitated and bestial. As all the other catch up, he snarls and sets off down the tunnel ahead of them
....packmate...aberrations....protect the key.. do not forget the hunt..no!!..hunt..live in the moment.. this hunt..all that matters
He pushes all thought away, allowing his primal aspect, instincts and all to come forth as he lopes onward, shield in hand.

Lissa discovers that the spiders have webbed her far too securely for even an agile gnome to wriggle out. Still cursing her captors (as much as she can with the muffling spidersilk), Lissa remembers the dagger still clutched in her hand. Hmm, wonder if I can get any leverage to cut at this stuff? It's worth a try... anything is. If I don't do something I'm going to start gibbering in fear. She starts trying to slash at the inside of the cocoon with her tiny dagger.
(OOC: It's a Small dagger, and Lissa has a -1 Str penalty >:( ...but anything's better than waiting to become spider chow!)

Aeroz spins around, slashing and thrusting at shadows before he realizes that all of the spiders in and around the cave are dead.
Quick words are exchanged. Some members of the party urge caution, while others call for immediate action.
Torches are held high and weapons are readied. Linda tends to her wounds as the fighters strap on their armor.
Lumpy kicks Hajih awake ("Huh? Wha? Whaz goin on?"), and the party converges on the tunnel entrance where Fizahn has already begun looking for any more traps.
By the time everyone is armored up, Fizahn has "cleared" the entrance to the tunnel. The party enters with caution, intent on rescuing Lissa from the driders. Everyone hopes that it isn't too late ...
OOC: Marching order please. The passages in this part of the Underdark are wide, allowing three to walk abreast. Linda casts CLW. The fighters are armored up.

Fizahn tosses on his backpack. Holding his torch in his left hand and his "short sword" in his right, he moves to the front of the group, flanking the lizardman on his right. He is extremely angry that the driders got the drop on them and keeps muttering under his breath in gnomish exactly what he's going to do to them. He keeps an eye out for any other spiders left behind to ambush and delay them.
