Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
I'd suggest the Nexus, but then, I only roleplay in the Nexus. We have an IRC channel - might be a bit dead at this time of night - and an OoC thread, either good places to find someone to help you start things off right.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Howdy folks, first post in the FFRP area (and first post in about 7 years; took a break and life ran away from me). I've done PbP free-form role-playing before, but it's been a very long time. I'm looking to get back into role-playing online again as life is currently making doing much IRL somewhat difficult.
A little more about me; I've been gaming in one form or another for about 16 years or so now. I've done a lot of tabletop, and a lot of freeform, though admittedly much of the freeform games I played in were on IRC. I'm looking to play in a more plot-involved environment, preferably either something sci-fi/cyberpunk or in my personal favorite universe, the Mega Man Legends universe. I wouldn't be opposed to starting a thread in the latter, but I would like to know if there's something maybe already going on in something established that I can simply jump into with a character. Also, is there anything ettiquette-wise I should think about before starting a thread that might not be mentioned in the stickies? Why is it Plan A is always, "Get 'Em!" and Plan B is, "Cause as much collateral damage as possible"?

I don't know of any cyberpunk worlds going on right now, aside from the general 'everything' of the Nexus threads. That said, you're always welcome there.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Hey guys.
I've been on the forums for quite a bit, and even tried my hand at PBP once. Regretfully that specific game kind of died slowly and I never got back into it.
I'm very interested in the idea of freeform roleplaying. The idea of playing a character as just a character, without any kind of defined stats, combat system, or levelling system is something new to me as my experience with RPGs has largely been via CRPGs which are by nature mechanics-heavy.
I've lurked this forum the past couple of days, and it looks pretty overwhelming to be honest. Some of these games have been running for literally years and I'm worried about inserting a half-baked character into these highly detailed universes.
I have a pretty vague idea in my mind of what character I want to play, but I'm not really fixed about what kind of setting he'll be in.Awesome OOTS-style Fallout New Vegas avatar by Ceika. Or it was, before Photobucket started charging money.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Trust me, the Nexus game is such a piecemeal thing that you shouldn't have trouble getting someone in. Each thread is a separate location (or group of locations) and interaction is a scene-by-scene basis, so it's actually not nearly as big and complex as it might look.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
I suppose I should show up in one of the OOC threads and check first? And not have my character suddenly appear and flip tables in an eating establishment. I wasn't really going to do that, just an example.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Well...I mean...you could do the table thing...Just expect people trying to stop you.
If you just want to pop into one of the taverns/inns, you don't need to check with people in OOC first. Just walk in and go from there. Somebody will interact with you.
If you want to jump into an existing conversation? Or events already in motion? Then yeah, check with them OOC first.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Showing up and flipping tables is, honestly, the time tested way of joining the nexus.
But if you were to show up in the OoC, explain your character concept, and ask, I'm sure somebody would be glad to arrange a scene with you.Meese Mobster by smuchmuch.

Re: Show up and (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
From the smiley face I assume you're kidding. If you weren't(!), sure go ahead. Flipping tables was just an example of behaviour that might be considered disruptive, and not something I would have made the focus of a character anyway.
Even if my character does show up at a bar without any OOC communication, I still have to stick the character sheet in the character registry, yes?Awesome OOTS-style Fallout New Vegas avatar by Ceika. Or it was, before Photobucket started charging money.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Not really. The Registry is more of a formality for people who like making things documented. I stopped using it years ago.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Yep! Or how would we know what your char looks like, or his odd quirks?
I'd recommend using the registry, though. Each to his own, but I find it can be useful, for example to double-check that you aren't spontaneously giving the char new powers as the scene demands, as a way to keep track of their growth, and so others can have a better idea who they're dealing with.
Personally, for example, I like to avoid situations where two chars turn out to be a bad match for each other. Seeing their char sheet makes it less likely that I send a quiet grump to meet another quiet grump!
If/when you accumulate a lot of PC's, well, I personally don't have all my chars on the site, just the more Nexus-important ones, for instance. Honestly, it's all up to you!

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
I'd like to join in on a game, preferably a fantasy setting where I would be playing a Paladin, a sci-fi setting, where I would play a Marine, or a Western setting, where I would play as a deputy sheriff

Just wondering, are you allowed to join into games spontaneously? The game I saw doesn't say it's closed off

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
The Nexus is completely open, walk-on-in, but for the non-Nexus threads, you want to find their 'OoC' and ask how you can be fit in, as they tend to have less open narratives.

Where would I go to gauge interest in a particular FFRP? Here?

Alternatively, post in the OOC thread, which the FFRPers here visit regularly!

Goto, that's the Nexus OOC thread. There's different games in FFRP besides Nexus.

Just wondering, are there any prerequisites to creating your own FFRP-verse?
