Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
All of you! All of you clone people and horde people and robot people and resistance people! Why!?
Why haven't you talked in the FFRP central thread first! Seriously! I was confused when I logged on and saw 7, yes 7, threads that had to do about the clone week and the resistance and everything!
*takes a breath*
Okay, I've calmed down now. Would all those involved in starting this please come here and talk and decide on how to go about this theme week FFRPing? Just so everybody doesn't get confused. Thank you.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Perhaps someone could make a thread in the FB for discussion and request of avatars for this theme week and then people can RP as much as they want here in the various threads for the theme week.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
I'm actually rather confused as to why we need to declare ourselves here and hash it out. Has there been some kind of resounding breach of etiquette?

You may want to recruit in the Finding Players subforum. But good luck!

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Finding Players is for finding players for any game, anywhere. Then when you've found the players, you'd direct them here to roleplay. This thread is a bad place to recruit players because, except for the occasional new person, everyone here already has a universe or two or three they are playing in and they aren't looking for more. It's better to go to where the players are for recruiting purposes.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
I did so a week ago, but thank you. As to the rest of the points.
A. I've seen this very thread recruit people. I can, if needed, post quotes to the positive of this statement.
B. I have also seen people in this thread post questions about what they like and what world would suit them and their tastes. Once again, the post I made to let people know our game had rebooted was for this very purpose.
C. NarutoITP is a long running Free Form Game in this section, and noted on the second post of this very thread. I thought it polite and sensible to allow the person who has the sole ability to update such information to know that it does in fact require updating to be current.
D. NarutoITP is in fact a Free Form game. Even if it's storyline is more condensed then sniper cats versus tomato demons run around and do zany things, it is what it is. Since it is in fact a Free Form Game, any updates should belong in the Free Form section for ease of finding things applicable to it.
E. That very post that is... "objectionable" has already served it's purpose on letting people know the game was restarted and open for people to join if they so desired. So this tells me that it was in fact in the right place and that the statement "People are playing what they want to play so go somewhere else" isn't particularly valid.
I hope that clears the confusion.Last edited by Innis Cabal; 2011-03-14 at 01:32 AM.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Sorry... I didn't mean to suggest it was objectionable for you to recruit here, or that there was anything wrong with it, just that it might not be as effective as recruiting in other places.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Unfortunately, the Finding Players thread isn't all that good with finding players for Free Form games. Just a bit of friendly information for everyone here. Most people in that section are not looking for Freeform Games, or they'd come here and look.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
OK, I had some questions about FFRPing. 1st, do all three criteria (No GM, No firm rules, players jumping in and out) have to be met in order for the game to be considered FFRP, or just some to some extent?
I have thought up a very basic system on my own, with simple rules, but it does involve a lot of stuff that does not seem to fit in.
Spoiler
Players start out with a given number of advantages and disadvantages. Most skills are write in, but automatic advantages or disadvantages may be given to a player based on class. There is always (at least, I am thinking) some form of opposed check.
All checks result in either affirmative or negative.
If a skill is unlisted, then normally it has a 50% chance of a positive result.
If a skill is an advantage, it has a 75% chance of a positive result.
If a skill is a disadvantage, it has a 25% chance of a positive result.
If a skill has a related ability (e.g. manueverability advantage during a jump), this may change the chance as deemed appropriate (+or- 10%, 20%, 30%)
If a skill is especially specific, or will rarely occur (e.g. "jump high" when "jump" would have sufficed), the advantage can be increased to up to 95%, or disadvantage reduced to 5%, as the DM sees fit (or the DM may advise the player to choose something more general or applicable if necassary)
If a skill is highly vague, (such as physical abilities), this works reverse of super specific skills. If a disadvantage, it can be moderated to up to 45%. If it is an advantage, it can be reduced down to 55% (or if it is insanely vague, e.g. everything, the DM can opt to not allow it at all).
There are only 2 skills that may be used for combat, attack and defend (although related abilities may apply here as well),
List of possible outcomes and results:
Spoiler
- P1 Attacks (+) P2 Attacks (+)= Both recieve damage
- P1 Attacks (+) P2 Attacks (-)= Only P2 recieves damage
- P1 Attacks (-) P2 Attacks (-)= No damage (still unsure about this one)
- P1 Defends (+) P2 Defends (+)= No damage
- P1 Defends (+) P2 Defends (-)= P2 recieves damage (P1 defend turns to attack)
- P1 Defends (-) P2 Defends (-)= No damage
- P1 Attacks (+) P2 Defends (+)= No damage
- P1 Attacks (-) P2 Defends (-)= No damage
- P1 Attacks (-) P2 Defends (+)= ? Either damage to P1 or no damage.
Damage points: I am unsure about this. My primary idea isthat all players have between 15 and 25 damage points. Any time injury occurs (either by an attack or by noncombat), a D20 is rolled, possibly with modifiers either way. Only scratches or bruises on 1(through 5?), Instant death on 20. Damage points are almost always 20, although this may change based on certain classes.
Example noncombat scenario and solution:
Spoiler
Players have to jump across a detected pit trap with spikes at the bottom(for some reason, they can't go around it).
There is a 10% scenario modifier that they will succeed (40% chance of + result scenario roll). P1 listed "jump" as an advantage. P2 listed "speed" as an advantage, giving them a partial advantage adding to 65% instead of 50%. P3 has a disadvantage in "jump."
P1 rolls a 25 (+), GM roll is 82 (+). Working on it.
P2 rolls a 45 (+). GM roll is 1. Made it easily.
P3 rolls a 60 (-). GM roll is 58. Falls and makes damage roll.
P4 rolls a 23 (-). GM rolls a 34 (-). Again, working on it.
Rather basic rules that leave much to the players and GM to decide. Does this count as an FFRP (if it were finished)?Long Sig (now with nonsense riddles).

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
I would say no but I could be wrong.
The thing about FFRP is that there are no rules. That is probably the biggest criteria. You can have a GM and in a lot of cases you usually do. I mean someone has to make the monsters and dungeons right?
But what succeeds and what doesn't is always up to the players. I'm not saying that the system you have put forth, 101jir, is bad or good just not... Free Form.

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
To go over the three characteristics you mentioned:
1. No GM: Freeform universes usually do not have a single GM. There may be several people who share the responsibility, or it may be completely anarchic with no GM at all unless someone starts a particular plot.
2. No System: In Freeform, though there may be a general agreement on limiting characters (such as 'no anime superheros in My Little Pony freeform'), there generally isn't the sort of character structure you've outlined. As for action resolution, that's done by collaborative storytelling rather than having any numbers involved. If there's a disagreement, then it generally gets talked out, rather than appealing to the Random Numbers God.
3. Open to everyone: A freeform universe has to be open for any player to join at any time. There may be closed plots within that universe, for convenience, and there may be 'In Character' hurdles to jump in order to get your character to a certain place, but in general, the universe needs to be as open as a Silly Message Board Game for anyone to roleplay in when they choose.
So... based on your description, your game does not fit criteria 1 or 2, and there's no mention of 3. You're probably best putting it in PbP.My avatar! Isn't it just utterly diabolical? Ashen Lilies made it!

Re: FFRP Central: All players start here!
Ya, I get what you are saying about it not being bad or good, just not here.
THX for the help! I thought that it might fit since the rules are highly flexible, and so on. Possibly some (limited) ability for players to come in and out, but I see what you are saying. I will keep working on it, you might see some system based on that in the recruitment forum, but I guess not here. THX again.Long Sig (now with nonsense riddles).
