I looked at the FFRP FAQ, and I kept wondering, "Where's the 'How do I start' section?"

I also looked at a couple of threads. All the starting posts don't say if they're open to more people joining. They only describe the setting and stuff...

So: I looked at the sig already. I'm still not ready to go. How do I start?

I suggest posting in Trog's, or the Dancing Fox Inn. They're taverns that newcomers often seem to find.
There's also the city Inside, where you can wander the streets.

Anyone can join any location at any time.

If I want to ask OOC questions about a specific thread (e.g. 'I'm planning for my character to attack the drunk orc, are you guys okay with that?), where should I post it?

Generally if there are more than two people posting in the same [Location Tag] you shouldn't butt in. Otherwise it's largely up to discretion unless someone explicitly marks it as a Closed Scene.
There is an OOC (out of character) thread for all general discussions.

Threads are set up as locations, so you can, at any time, set up a new scene with your own location tag without bothering anyone, and you don't even need those for Trog's or the DFI.

I've seen the recent posts, so I won't ask redundant questions. I've skimmed read the entire FAQ on a signature link. My question is, Is it possible to start somewhere other than an inn or tavern? It seems kinda meh, to start in those areas.

Yeah, there have been some people starting even in the more private threads, though generally you should ask before doing that. Still any thread can work, though obviously Random Plots and such are more for well, plots, than character intros.

Nope. You're right. Nexus is the original setting (effectively a conglomerate of every other setting) that is used for most of the FFRP here, the others being the ones for Bleach, MLP, and the other original one, The Burning Temple, but I don't know if that thread is public or not. Anyway, the links in Happy's signature should explain the rules and starting out well enough.

Welcome! Every roleplaying universe is different, and more will come to exist after this guide is written. Start by posting here in the FFRP Central thread and introducing yourself. Right. Apparently, I'm supposed to describe my roleplaying style.

I like playing dwarfs and fighters and my world preference is fantasy. I find sci-fi or even steampunk kind of boring.

Literally anything and everything works in the Nexus, as long as you don't start whipping out nukes.

My suggestion, post in the Nexus OOC Thread and ask if anyone wants to run a scene for [brief character description], or just go straight to Trogs, The Dancing Fox Inn, or The Black Dragon's Den.
There should be someone willing to throw a character at you.

You can have the same character in multiple threads (plotcloning), since threads are just locations, and timestreams are barely kept track of anyways. The main thing to watch out for when plotcloning is your items/abilities.
If a character has a magic sword in his first scene, then he should have it in his second scene...if he loses it in his second scene, he probably shouldn't have it in his third scene.

Keep in mind, your character could be in three scenes at once, if you're up to it...

And of course, you can always try creating one yourself; Or reviving a classic from the archives. Every FFRP has to start somewhere.

Right, of course. Though I've been part of a few of the failed ones.

It should be noted that you can have PC's come directly from other settings. Along with original folks, I've had a few come from other games on the forum that died, like my avatar.

Hello, I'm Flaming Eagle. I'm a new person as well, who has experience with Avatar-Based FFRPs and even a brief D&D-esque forum game as a gnomish wizard before real life happened.

As for preference... well anything relating to avatars/manga/webcomics/video games (especially 'post-apocalyptic).

Is there any one based on Wasteland 2? Or The Walking Dead? I've discovered a newly-formed one based on Fallout NV

The, ah, 'newly formed' FO:NV one may be slightly dead, as my post dates back to November. I hope it isn't, though.

But I would recommend the Nexus, as it allows all to come and do what they wish with whatever they wish- roboticists, steampunk dinosaur wizards, Neanderthal samurai, and so on. That said, there are several manga/anime based ones, but as I don't watch anime and don't like having to read backwards go from right to left with a comic-style format, I can't tell you much about those.

And I'd prefer video game ones to manga (unless it's Senien manga)
