Dungeons and Drawings art (new: Fire Giant)
Howdy all.
Me and my fella have started an art project together dedicated to D&D monsters, a blog called Dungeons and Drawings. The Monster Manual is essentially what got me interested in playing the game.
I'd like an opinion by you guys on the artwork, and maybe some ideas for some creatures to do next. Currently I'm working on a pixie.
Here's my post for last week, the Raskshasa, one of my favourite monsters (and villains).

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff
Image for this week: the pixie.
Drawn as a tiny creature, because there's something weird about the pixie being in the same size category as a halfling.
The other post for this week is also another fey, though not a very nice one: the spriggan.
Coming up next week on Dungeons and Drawings, the Eefrit and some other creature. Maybe a construct or something.Last edited by Exit; 2010-09-01 at 09:57 AM.

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff
Yo there.
This week's bit of Monster Manual obsession over at Dungeons and Drawings goes to the Efreet, the evil fire genie. I know that the genies Middle Eastern mythological creatures, but this ended up being influenced quite a bit by Indian things; the faint design in the background comes from a Dover book of Indian designs that I have and the poses of the efreet are based on the Indian martial art of Southern Kalarippyatu (in an attempt to not completely rip off firebending). However the clothing is based on Bedouin clothing, specifically bridal dresses since they're a bit more interesting.
The image goes in spoiler tags because it's a tad big.
Spoiler
The other monster is another fire monster, the Rast. I think he did a good job of taking one of the dorkier looking monsters in the book (it's a spider with a dinosaur head) and making it look really neat and threatening.
Next week: I don't know. Possibly an undead, but I'm considering a Kelpie or a Nixie. Kind of on a fey trip right now.I'm in the Player Registry.

Very nice. You've got a sort of Samurai Jack style going with these that's fantastic.

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff (new: Efreet)
I always found that statement a bit ambiguous; does flipped hands mean that they're right hand is left, and their left right? Or that their palms point up instead of down? The artwork never cleared that up too much for me either, so I just picked the right/left option as what I thought flipped hands meant.
I also flipped the feet to be similar.I'm in the Player Registry.

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff (new: Efreet)
You've both got great talent. I really like your take on the efreet. I've never been fond of the hulking, ogre mage-looking thing in the Monster Manual.

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff (new: Efreet)
Thanks dude. It's good to know some people are clicking on my links because I know sometimes people can be suspicious of them.
Yeah, I never liked the ogre-devil-efreet thing very much either. In fact, I think that the illustrations for the genies in the MM are pretty lackluster (though the one for the half-janni in Sandstorm is really neat).I'm in the Player Registry.

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff (new: Drowned)
This week's common theme on Dungeons and Drawings was Undead, and we ended up also taking the creatures for the Monster Manual 3.
I picked the Drowned, a watery zombie. They are people who died that eponymous death and rise from their watery depths to terrify the living. They have the special ability to drown people on land by using a cold aura that makes the water around them in a 30ft radius feel like you're underwater.
Once more in tags. Big image, etc.
Spoiler
The other creature this week is the Necronaut a massive tower of skulls and corpses that drags itself along using its giant arms.
Next week: creatures of the Aquatic subtype.Last edited by Exit; 2010-09-13 at 03:27 AM.

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff (new: Drowned)
This updates theme on Dungeons and Drawings was creatures of the aquatic subtype. That was kind of a concession on Joe's part because I'd really wanted to do a nixie for a while. He ended up doing an aboleth, and I think he found a pretty interesting way of representing his face.
Spoiler
Next week's theme is constructs. It's one of his favoured types, and I'm itching to do something non-humanoid. I know a ton of constructs are walking man-things, but there's plenty of other stuff too.Last edited by SMEE; 2010-09-27 at 05:11 PM.

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff (new: Bronze Serpent)
Hello there, folks.
First of all, sorry about being late this week. We both got busy with more work-related stuff and both had trouble even coming up with a satisfying drawing for last week's post. Kinda ironic because we really thought we'd gotten the hang of not rushing our posts, since the Aboleth and Nixie got done ahead of schedule.
Anyway, we've made our posts today, and hopefully we'll have something else for this Sunday, on schedule. The theme was constructs; I did a Bronze Serpent and he did a Runic Guardian.
Personally, I'm not entirely thrilled with the way it turned out this week, but I really didn't want to postpone putting it up any more than we'd already done.
Thanks to all you guys for your compliments on our work. We don't get that many comments on the blog itself, so it's good to hear what you guys think over at these forums.I'm in the Player Registry.

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff (new: Bronze Serpent)
I think so to. Even some pretty popular art-sites like Cold Hard Flash seem to get a weirdly low amount of comments.
Also I think you have to be registered with something to make a comment on blogspot. I know I tend to feel discouraged from commenting on anything if I'm forced to be signed up with something.
BTW, next week's theme might be low-level encounters, like creatures you'd encounter at level 1.Last edited by Exit; 2010-09-29 at 11:39 AM.

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff (new: Kobolds)
This week's theme on Dungeons and Drawings was low-level encounters.
Which was really an excuse for me to draw kobolds.
Kobooooolds. I like them so very much. They're seriously on of my favourite monsters, and I often try to use them as a player race.
Me partner in crime did a githyanki, an image which ended up looking really awesome.
I don't know what next week's theme is. It's his turn to pick.I'm in the Player Registry.

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff (new: Nixie)
Duuude yeeesss I love Tucker's Kobold's (in reference to the blog-spot post). I haven't read that excerpt in awhile. Made my morning.
Also I selfishly want more low-level creatures. These (your) kobolds are so boss.❒ In 2015 I will draw 365Goblins!!!

Re: Dungeons and Drawings art stuff (new: Megaloceros)
Well, well, well, look who's late again with their Sunday post.
Sorry guys, busy weekend doing artwork for some jobs. HOWEVER, we have still made the things that were meant to be posted. Here they are, to you, today, creatures of Frostburn.
This is the Megaloceros, a giant deer that can scoop you up and throw you around with its giant horns. Its classified as a dire animal in the book, but this dude's an actual prehistoric deer, sometimes known by the less syllabic name of Irish Elk.
Me partner's done a Shivhad, an intelligent giant crab that lives inside glaciers and are so powerful they're only challenged by especially old white dragons.
I see this threads just reached over 1,000 views. Keep up the good work, fellas.Last edited by Exit; 2010-10-12 at 04:49 PM. Reason: Added links
