So Flashheart tweaked the Adder's beard,
From now he always shall be single.
To fall in love with boys is weird,
Especially boys without a tingle.
Blackadder, Blackadder, his taste is rather odd,
Blackadder, Blackadder, a randy little sod.
Lord Flashheart, Lord Flashheart, I wish you were the star,
Lord Flashheart, Lord Flashheart, you're sexier by far...
And New Hampshire is named after Hampshire, which has a p in it.Last edited by Fifty-Eyed Fred; 2010-09-19 at 08:55 PM.

Programming is so much fun. I just wrote:
>theGame = true;
>youLostIt = theGame==true;
>youLostIt
true
...
Now I only need to learn how to make the computer say "You lost it" when I write "theGame".
EDIT: I just caused an internal server error. I have no idea on how this happened. I feel special.Last edited by Teddy; 2010-09-20 at 04:06 AM.

KD: What?
FH: This.

Re: KuReshtin's Vociferously Ruminating Harbinger of Random Banter - #147
Last night I made a tiny batch of cookies, cutting down the recipe to the minimal amount of ingredient with the least granularity (one egg). The vegans, with their divisible substitutions for egg, can make a smaller unique batch than the non-vegans without generating waste. Something to think about for cakes as well as cookies.
Aha! That was it, thank you. So what makes the distinction between words compounded in this order and most of the election-, government-, and other-weighty-topics-related words which are compounded without a preposition or spaces between any of the words? Just 'weightiness'? Abstract nouns?

So, it turns out I can recognise the opening number of The Mikado pretty much iust from the first note. I wonder if there's some way I can get people to pay me for being a G&S fanatic? It'd be so much easier than getting a real iob...

Re: KuReshtin's Vociferously Ruminating Harbinger of Random Banter - #147
True for the first point, the second song is a close contender (have you heard Clopin's ridiculously high and long note?) and is a very good set-up for the entire film.
However, for sheer catchiness and manliness and irony, you've got to admit I'll Make A Man Out of You is up there.
More thoughts on Hunchback:
Iust as Frollo and the Archdeacon are thematically opposite, so too are Notre Dame and the Palace of Iustice. During the panning scene when we see Paris ablaze, the two buildings rising above the smoke are the Palace and Notre Dame. They face each other across the burning city, opposing the other's ideals.
The Palace of Iustice and Frollo representing corruption (of heavenly and worldly laws), obsession, hate, disregard for the common people, selfishness.
Notre Dame and Esmerelda/Quasimodo (the Archdeacon cares more about his cathedral than the atrocities committed against the people "I will not tolerate this assault on the house of God!", not its people) represent equality, freedom, iustice, compassion, understanding and being able to let things go.
Not to mention how the leitmotifs and choral music constantly contrast each other. I can't really comment on this because, you know, no musical expertise; but Heaven's Light/Hellfire is one continuous piece linked by the ringing of the church bells and is lyrically and chromatically (help!) shows how one emotion can be so different in each person.
Heaven's Light is soft, with violins and flutes picking up the light tune, evoking lightness. The briging starts off light, quick and ioyful, and then the measured, deeper tones of the bells change to the solemnity of the Confiteor.
The tones of the bells pick up on the deeper, tenor (?) voice of Frollo, and the Latin of the Confiteor because the monkly choir confessing to sins.
I can't be certain, but I think the violins change to cellos, and the flutes to oboes or a similar instrument.
The focus of the songs (Esmerelda) is designed to show the best and worst of each character, and show their differing attitudes and approaches to life.
Aaahhhh . . . umm . . . . analysisgasm?
I really can ramble on about things. Apologies.

Re: KuReshtin's Vociferously Ruminating Harbinger of Random Banter - #147
I can't say that this is my area of expertise, but I think this kind of compounding feels like a bit too long and too much of a work-around to use especially often in common speach. Two or three words can usually be successfully compounded into something sufficiently easy to say, but after that people'll want to shorten it (if "Partiet för lättskalade apelsiner" would become established in Swedish media and politics, it would probably be shortened to "Apelsinpartiet", the same way that "Socialdemokratiska Arbetarpartiet" becomes "Socialdemokraterna" and "Moderata Samlingspartiet" becomes "Moderaterna").
In general, the Swedish language likes to stack the words together without spaces inbetween whenever a verb or a noun is used to describe another verb or noun, or an adjective.Last edited by Teddy; 2010-09-20 at 01:52 PM.

Re: KuReshtin's Vociferously Ruminating Harbinger of Random Banter - #147
*first time I've remembered to use multiquote rather than copypasta!*
Not my favourite Disney movie, but the music is epicness.
Can't remember it at all music-wise, despite having watched Mulan twice. I can remember the bit of her using the weights to pull herself up the pole, but other than that I remember very little of Mulan. A shame really, I should rewatch it. IIRC when I've seen it I've very much enjoyed it.
*hugs back* Think I should let you know that I've decided for definite I'm applying for Oxford. Not expecting I'll get in (TBH, I would rather go to Leicester than Oxbridge <.<), but if I actually manage to get an interview I might look you up. Re: KuReshtin's Vociferously Ruminating Harbinger of Random Banter - #147
I was pleased when the multiquote came back, I'd heard so much about it from older Playgrounders that it felt liked I'd actually used it before.
Not mine either. It's in the top ten certainly, I think the music and darker tone are the reason why.
There are Disney films I know virtually word perfect, this isn't one of them (I'm about 70% certain) but it's well developed.
What would you call your favourite Disney film?
Yes! It must be rewatched. I adore this film, no idea why, I iust do.
I bet it's probably that song. And Mulan. She's cool.
*GLEE!*
I'll make sure to sign up for the Interview Weeks then, can't promise I'll be there for the entire time, but it should work.
And hey, no worries about Leicester over Oxbridge, and even if you do get accepted it's still your decision whether to go or not (however, applying knowing that you'd reiect the offer if you got it is something I hate) because there're more things to do in uni than study. And the Oxbridge style of teaching isn't for everyone.
Let us know if you get in for interview sweetie. And then we can try and sort out another miniature meetup.
Good luck with the application process.

Disney Animated Canon.
The films released under the Touchstone label.
Pixar.
Ever. This is everything they've released that can be classed as a film. I don't really count the Ghibli dubs as a separate category because all they're doing is translating/adapting an existing script.
Also because Ghibli gets its own category. The category is: Best Ghibli Film Ever (Dubbed or Subbed).

Re: KuReshtin's Vociferously Ruminating Harbinger of Random Banter - #147
Never used it even when it was there. I find it easier to copypasta.
Beauty and the Beast.
No question. Is AWESOME. <3
Mulan is 3 in my top 3 female disney heroes. (2 being Belle, 1 being Jasmine)
I'll almost certainly accept if I do get an offer, because Oxford looks awesome as well.
And I still don't know if I'll get an interview. All depends on if I do well in the Maths Entrance Exam and if my blasted chemistry teacher predicts me an A."I'm just going on motive and opportunity here and the fact that if the earth got swallowed by a black hole, I'd look suspiciously in your direction first."
