    Waterlogged and wriggling, Taern and Fizahn are harder to pull up than one might expect at first, but thanks to the combined strength of Thokk, Elthan, Graevic, and Linda, the two are soon pulled out of the pit and are lying on the floor, coughing and sputtering.

    The pit, spiked by Elthan, remains open.

    Taking his time, Fizahn explores the doorway carefully and finds a small latch. Elthan retrieves his daggers, the trap door closes, and Thokk pulls the block back again, resetting the trap for a second time.

    Fizahn engages the latch, and this time when Thokk pushes the stone, there is no click and the stone slides slowly but smoothly down the south passage.



    OOC: This leaves only the west doorway sealed. The north passage opens into the tomb with the plain sarcophagus, 4 bodies, and the small stone statues. The east passage is open, though the block next to the opening suggests that it was opened from the other side.

    No one is too hard on Taern. After all, Fizahn had assured her that the doorway was not trapped. Linda and Graevic stay with her as she recovers, while Thokk (after re-equiping himself), Elthan, and Fizahn (still wet, but otherwise OK) investigate the north room.

    The circular ledge ringing the room is 15 feet above the floor, so Fizahn can not get a good look at the laughing statues. Stepping over the bodies, he is able to examine the sarcophagus closely however. It is an unadorned stone box, with an equally plain lid. Fizahn finds no evidence of any traps.



    OOC: Fizahn takes 20 but finds no traps.

    " I have warned of danger in such places but you shouldn't take it as your mistake. You were told that the stone was not trapped so it wasn't your fault. Don't worry, such things happen all the time. It is up to us to learn from our mistakes and avoid such danger the next time though. Rest here-I'll go see if I can find anything that the others cannot"

    Linda walks over to the room with the sarcophagus and uses her link with magic to see if it is magical.

    Thokk begins to wrestle with the stone lid.

    As Linda continues to concentrate, the aura comes into clearer focus. She senses strong evocation magic. Images of fire and laughter enter her mind. Too late she realizes her mistake. She turns to the rest of you, eyes wide. She just manages to get out two words - "Flame strike..."

    Bright blue jets pour from the mouths of the statues up above, forming a spiraling column of magic flame that cascades down upon you like a river of fire.



    OOC: I need everyone in the room to submit a Reflex save and a Fort save.

    As quickly as it appeared, the column of blue fire vanishes.

    Graevic, Fizahn, and Linda are down. All three of them are alive but badly injured.

    Taern, who had been hanging back, is spared the brunt of the flame strike, and Thokk manages to shield himself somewhat next to the sarcophagus. Both have been burned but seem otherwise OK.

    Elthan is actually blasted backward into the passageway but miraculously escapes injury. Graevic's badger is nowhere to be found.



    OOC: Reflex save DC 17 half; damage (9d6): 36 = Fort save DC: 23 (or 19 with successful Reflex save)

    With her robes badly damaged where the wave of the flame stroke and her hands, legs and body burned in several places Linda lies down in pain for awhile. Her features are strained with pain and her face is red. She lies until the great pain subsides and is able to concentrate then slowly and carefully gets up and uses her magic to heal herself and those affected by the blast.

    OOC: 5 cure light wounds. One at herself and one on each PC affected by the blast. Why it was my mistake though?

    It takes Linda more effort than she expected to heal herself to the point that she can safely stand and tend to her friends.

    As she moves from person to person, she realizes that she shouldn't blame herself. There was no way for her to have known ahead of time that the magical trap would be triggered by her "examination."

    She heals Graevic and Fizahn first, since they are the most gravely injured. The last of her healing energies goes towards helping Taern (shellshocked, but on the plus side, now dry), but Linda has not quite enough power to completely heal Taern's burns.


    OOC: The trap was triggered by the proximity of the detect magic spell. Linda's Cure Light Wounds rolls (1d8+3): 4 (Linda), 8 (Linda), 11 (Graevic), 11 (Fizahn), 4 (Taern). Taern and Thokk each retain one hit. The rest of the party is healed.

    *Fizahn looks at Thokk angrily, then grins.*

    "I nominate Elthan because he's impressed me with his amazing display of skill and luck."

    *Fizahn adopts a graver look.*

    "I swear that thing wasn't trapped, I have no idea how or why those statues spewed the flame at us, but I'm pretty sure that it was nothing I did.... One of the floor stones or something that Thokk stepped on could have been trapped, so I guess I should start inspecting those."
