Graevic comes jogging from the house to the stables, still strapping on his gear, Aholoh bounding along behind him.

"My apologies friends, it has been a while since I've slept in a bed and it seems I enjoyed it a little too long."

Graevic saddles his horse, finishes adjusting his gear, and mounts up, placing Aholoh on his lap.

Returning at the Dragon's lair to explore the Necromance's crypt? Very well. Though I am not sure we should do this I will come with you. I always hated dark magics and destroying their creations would be welcome-if we are careful enough to survive in the process. Please promise me you won't rush things-going blindly ahead in a dark tomb is a death wish.
Linda seems worried about how glad some of the other party members to venture there. She doesn't seem frightened of going in there-only (perhaps overly) cautious.

As you head back west along the road toward the Wetwoods, you pass a few commoners and even a merchant or two heading east. Each time, the travellers yield to your party. Occasionally one doffs his hat or even bows slightly.

You realize that the six of you, heavily armored, armed, and mounted, make a formidable sight - almost a miniature army - as you ride by.

The beautiful weather makes the trip back to the bogs a quick one. You easily make your way back to Taern's giant oak tree. It stands straight and proud next to the ancient barrow where the dragon was slain.

Taern and Thokk have no problem removing the stone door for the second time. In no time, you find yourselves standing around the ancient iron seal once again.

As Fizahn re-examines the seal, he finds no evidence that it has been tampered with since the last time you were here. There are no signs of traps. Again, Fizahn points out the 8 pins that hold the seal in place. Although they are rusted, they can likely be hammered out of place relatively easily.

We should be careful when opening the seal, yes. Although most probably the abjuration would hold things IN rather that prevent outside interference we can never be too careful. I will use my spells to detect magic while you open up the seal. If your actions trigger the old spells perhaps I can try to give advance warning-if not to avoid the effects entirely then at least to take cover.

OOC: Detect magic at the seal white the others hammer it open. Will try to say when (if) the magic triggers so others take cover.

Thokk uses his newly cut oak club to bang the 8 pins out of their places. He and Taern then slide the heavy iron disc off to the side, revealing the source of the abjuration...

There is a round wooden door (5 ft diameter) set into the floor. The wooden slats are bound together by simple iron fittings. The centuries have not been kind to this door. The wood is damp and rotten and the iron fittings are heavily corroded. An iron ring is set into the center of the door.

Fizahn takes his time, carefully examining the old wooden door in the floor. He finds no traps and no lock for that matter. Yet, when he finally takes the iron ring and pulls, the door does not open.

The rotten wooden door is surprisingly resilient, and it takes several mighty blows from Taern's axe before it collapses. The shattered wood and iron vanish as they fall down into a dark circular stone shaft, 5 ft in diameter. The delay before they they clatter onto a stone floor tells you that the shaft is quite deep.

Thokk peers down into the darkness and can only say that there appears to be a stone floor at the bottom that he can see just about at the limits of his darkvision.

Centuries old stale air rises up from the dark shaft, cold and damp.

Or, if we have long enough of rope and the block doesn't do the trick, we could tie the rope to a tree outside of the cave. If we do not have enough rope for these, we could find a big stump and lay it across the hole, tie the rope around it and climb down. Whatever we do, I suggest we send someone down first just to know how deep it is."

As per Linda's suggestion, Thokk peers down the shaft with his darkvision, but sees nothing other than smooth stone walls.

Taern doesn't have another feather token, but she is able to find a decent sized fallen log outside, which she drags into the barrow.

Graevic walks to the edge of the hole, peering into the inky darkness. After a moment of thought, he pulls a sunrod from his pack, igniting it with a thump against the floor, and drops it into the hole, watching and listening closely as it falls.

[OOC: Trying to determine how deep the hole goes, if possible. If that doesn't result into anything interesting, he says the following:

"Does anyone have a piton that we could use to secure a rope for Thokk to climb?" He eyes the log that Taern has drug into the barrow, as if comparing the weight of each member to the weight of the log. "Do you think it will hold?" ]

The sunrod tumbles end over end into the shaft, illuminating the smooth stone walls as it falls. It shatters on a flagstone floor 60 ft down, but the tip continues to shine, brightly illuminating a chamber of unknown size at the bottom of the shaft.

The log is damp and moldy, but seems likely to hold as long as it is only bearing the weight of one party member at a time.
