"MORADIN!!!" Thokk drops the duergar to his knees with a mighty blow, but Thokk is simultaneously critically injured by the duergar's counter-strike.

Kneeling, Taern, shaken but still feeling the effects of her war chant, sends an arrow straight into the chest of the drow wizard, just as the wizard fires his crossbow at Elthan. Taern is unable to prevent the drow wizard from hitting Elthan in the shoulder, but Elthan fires right back at him. Taern smiles as she watches the drow wizard collapse, pierced by both Taern's arrow and Elthan's crossbow bolt.

Graevic, now at the vanguard, spars with the orc shaman. The orc matches Graevic move for move. Neither is able to overcome the other's armor and defenses.

Linda, still supporting Taern with one hand, continues to chant, channeling soothing, healing arcane power.

Fizahn eyes the svirfneblin warily, then an interesting idea pops into his head. Instead of attacking either the svirfneblin or the duergar, Fizahn pokes his rapier at Thokk. The thin point of Fizahn's blade doesn't penetrate Thokk's platemail, but Fizahn's experiment pays off when he sees the svirfneblin mirror his movement and poke the duergar right in the buttock.

Meanwhile, the female orc has been ministering to the drow warrior who half rises and, in one swift motion, nocks and fires a black arrow directly into Elthan's center of mass. Elthan doubles over, falls to his knees, then topples over onto his side and is still.

    OOC: Thokk's attack (vs AC 21): 27 (20 + 7). Critical threat (vs AC 21): 22 (15 + 7). Damage: 13 (7 + 2 + 2 + 2). Taern's attack (vs AC 16): 16 (11 + 4 + 1). Damage: 8 (5 + 2 + 1). Elthan's attack (vs AC 16): 16 (15 + 1). Damage: 6. Linda's CLW: 6 (3 + 3). Thokk is hit for 13 points (current HP 5). Taern is partially healed (current HP 13). Elthan is hit by two missiles and is dying (current HP -1).

EDIT: Corrected Elthan's AC to 16 (mage armor).

Bloody and battered, Thokk and the duergar clash one last time, then collapse, each impaled on the other's blade, in a tangle of armor and weapons.

Taern and her drow counterpart throw aside their bows, pick up their axes and charge each other, readying mighty blows, while Graevic and the orc shaman exchange slashes of their scimitars.

Linda turns back to tend to Elthan. She places both hands on his chest and focuses her energies on his wounds. Her staff falls to the ground. As she gently pulls out the arrow and bolt, Elthan suddenly gasps and opens his eyes. He is alive.

The female orc similarly turns and kneels next to the drow wizard, dropping her twisted glowing staff.

Meanwhile, Fizahn sheathes his rapier and holds up a gold coin in his right hand. The svirfneblin mirrors his movement and holds up what looks like a rock in his left hand.

    OOC: Thokk's attack (vs AC 21): 25 (18 + 7). Damage: 10 (8 + 2). Graevic's attack (vs AC 16) 19 (18 + 1). Damage: 6. Linda casts another CLW: 11 (8 + 3). Thokk takes a hit and is dying (current HP -5). Graevic suffers a minor wound (current HP 17). Elthan is healed (current HP 10).

Fizahn's and Linda's warnings stop Graevic and Taern in mid-swing. Their counterparts stop fighting as well.

As the dust settles, its narcotic effect fades, and you find yourselves standing at the end of a 60 ft hallway facing a polished marble wall, black as obsidian.

Distorted reflections in the marble create the illusion that the passage extends another 60 ft forward. The six "dark humanoids" and the lit chamber "beyond", you see now, are simply your own reflections and the reflection of the doorway open behind you.

That your shadowy reflections could have inflicted such grievous wounds can only be explained by dark wizardry.

Linda and Graevic hasten to Thokk's side to try to preserve his life and, through their combined efforts, they are able to resuscitate him. The air is instantly filled with dwarven curses.

    OOC: Linda and Graevic both cast CLW: 11 (8 + 3), 4 (3 + 1). Thokk regains consciousness (current HP: 10).

While Elthan waits for someone to explain what just happened, Fizahn focuses his attention on the smooth black marble wall, blocking the party's way.

Thokk, Taern, and Graevic bind their remaining wounds as Linda retrieves her staff. All four are uncharacteristically quiet, perhaps shaken from the vicious battle with their illusory opponents.

After a long inspection, Fizahn finds an almost invisible depression in the center of the wall. Pressing it gently, he feels a slight give, and a small crack appears vertically down the center of the wall. A pair of 6 ft x 4 ft doors swing inward noiselessly, opening into a large, dark chamber.

Thanks to the oppressive silence and deep darkness, you can almost feel the weight of seven centuries on your shoulders. A shiver runs down your spine as a chilling thought enters your mind. You find yourself with no doubt that Sethra, or whatever remains of him, lies in the chamber in front of you.

Elthan steps to the doorway and slowly scans the chamber. He immediately detects magical energies. As he concentrates, they resolve into multiple discrete auras, scattered about the room.

Individual faint auras begin to come into focus: illusion, conjuration, transmutation, and (unsurprisingly) necromancy. Each seems to radiate from different areas of the room.

As you enter the chamber, Linda's staff illuminates another round, domed chamber, not unlike the barrow above you.

You can immediately see that this is where the final battle between Sethra and the four heroes occurred - in fact, their five bodies remain here, having been undisturbed for 700 years.

This must have once been some sort of audience chamber or perhaps ceremonial room. You can see that there were once rich tapestries lining the walls - those have long since rotted away. Fragments of pulverized wood suggest that there once were furnishings scattered around the room as well, likely destroyed either by the final battle or the centuries that have passed since then.

There is a 20 ft diameter round raised dais in the center of the room. A charred skeletal corpse lies there, still clutching a blackened staff. You assume that this was Sethra.

Around the room, roughly at the cardinal points lie four other sets of skeletal remains. Two (one off the left, the other off to the right) were likely fighters or clerics judging by their heavy metal armor, still intact. One, still held together by straps of rotting leather, lies slumped against the far wall.

Almost at your feet is the last skeleton. This corpse appeared to be unarmored, a spellcaster or bard perhaps. Strangely, this skeleton appears to have been kneeling at his time of death.

OOC: The scene itself doesn't appear to be illusory. The faint aura of illusion emanates from one of the bodies.

Elthan continues to concentrate, focusing his attention on each cadaver in turn.

    (1) The armored corpse to the left is non-magical. His breastplate, however, still shines like new, even though the rest of the ancient armor and his shield seem to have either been badly damaged or rusted. Elthan sees no weapon nearby.

    (2) The armored corpse to the right is armored in mostly intact chainmail, which radiates faint abjuration magic. Again, no weapon is visible.

    (3) The body propped up against the far wall (still wrapped in a cloak and rotting leather) radiates both faint illusion magic and a bit of transmutation magic.

    (4) The kneeling corpse in front of Elthan has auras of conjuration magic and evocation. Because Elthan is close to that body, he can tell that the conjuration magic emanates from a pair of bracers still encircling the skeleton's wrists, while the evocation magic radiates from a thin dagger that unexpectedly appears to have been thrust through the sternum.

    (5) The body on the dais (presumably Sethra's) radiates both faint transmutation as well as a slightly stronger aura of necromancy. The aura of necromancy seems to primarily emanate from the black, serpentine scepter/staff he clutches in his bony fingers.

Elthan still stands at the entrance to the room, unwilling to enter (or dismember any corpses) before he has scanned the room fully.

OOC: If anyone is going to specifically look at one of the bodies to obtain a more detailed description, I need to know which character and which body.

To Linda: "I don't think the heroe's armors would be dangerous, but the weapons they have been killed with could be." He then lowers his voice to make sure she is the only one that hears it. "Keep an eye on the staff, it radiates necromancy and it could have some spells ready if it is disturbed, no one is to approach it for now"

To the group: "I suggest we form two groups, and go each our way around the room, it will speed up the process and prevent large accumulation witch could lead to accidents. Remember, leave Sethra's corpse alone, I do not say this because I want it for my self because I won't be touching it either until the room is cleared. I suggest everyone keep an eye open and alert everyone if you see something unusual. We will split the groups up as so: Me, Tearn and Fizahn, we will start with the body in front of us, Linda, Thokk and Graevic, choose a side, and start going around the room in that direction."

Elthan, Taern, and Fizahn examine the body in front of them in more detail (skeleton #4):

The mummified skeleton kneels facing the dais. His hands are clasped around the hilt of a still glistening dagger that protrudes from his sternum. The skeleton's forehead touches the ground, and it looks as though the body has lain in this precariously balanced position for all of these centuries. Fragments of rotted cloth suggest that this adventurer was unarmored and dressed only in robes. It appears that the two metal bracers around his wrists were his only protections. Next to the body is an old leather knapsack, still closed.

Linda, Thokk, and Graevic investigate the body to the left (skeleton #1):

As noted previously, this body is still encased in platemail. Much of the armor has rusted and crumbled, though it also appears that it was badly damaged even before time had its way with it. The shield is so decrepit that you can barely make out its blazon (per pale vert and azure, a fret or). Only the breastplate appears to have been immune to damage and time. It glistens under a layer of dust and perhaps soot. At first it looked as though this knight was unarmed, but on closed inspection you can see the hilt of a longsword still clutched in his right hand. The blade is missing, however. Broken off perhaps?

Elthan kneels down and cranes his head to get a good look at the dagger embedded in the skeleton's chest. The dagger is in great condition, considering the passage of time. The brass pommel still glows, and the polished steel blade shows the rippled waves characteristic of the finest forged blades. Elthan realizes that the dagger appears to match a simple scabbard still tied to the skeleton's waist. Could it be that the adventurer was killed by his own dagger? Did the adventurer kill himself? If so, why?

Meanwhile, Fizahn carefully lifts the flap of the knapsack and peers in. (Nothing scurries out.) Several small pouches can be seen, which likely held spell components (long since rotted away). There is also a small leather-bound book. It looks too small to be a spellbook however. A couple of small flasks also lie inside.

Thokk, meanwhile, wanders away from the armored skeleton and approaches the dais, interested in Sethra's skeleton. As he moves closer he sees that the skeleton appears charred. Perhaps Sethra was killed by a fireball or alchemist's fire? The serpentine rod in Sethra's hand glares at Thokk with small ruby eyes. Thokk also notices a small ring on one of Sethra's fingers. The rest of his clothing or materials seems to have been vaporized when Sethra was killed. Thokk moves closer and is just about to step up on the dais ...

He then goes back to his body. Suddenly, after examining the body, he puts his hand on the dagger and pulls it from the body.

OOC: After, if nothing happens with the dagger(I do not suspect it will but you never know) I will put it in its scabbard. He will then try to take off the armor.

Hmm, maybe the dais is trapped but not the body-after all, if Setra died how would he trap himself? Now I think I have a way to remove the body from the dais without touching it or damaging it. Anyone have a rope? I can telecinetically manipulate the rope to tie it to Setra's body then we can pull it and remove the body from the dais.

OOC: Mage Hand for 5 pounds of telekinetic force on an object (the rope) for as long as I concentrate.
