Re: Old Ways IC
Brandon kicks the door open sending the goblin leaning against it sprawling into two of his fellows, both he and Talsarios hurl oil into the tangle of goblins. The trio goes up in flames, a horrific inferno engulfing them all. Before the flash and foul smoke fill the room, Nathros and Jeanne spy three more goblins deeper into the room, but they prove difficult to hit through the melee. Stefan finds one of them with a sling stone, though, and the thing twitched at the impact.
Gregaros takes up a position near the other door, and isn't at all surprised when it cracks open like the first. He dodges the arrow that comes flying out and takes a bold stab at the goblin behind the door, but to no avail.
Spoiler
PCs surprise round over.
Three dead burning goblins and three other goblins (one moderately injured) in the room.
Other room, one bow-wielding goblin in the doorway, Gregaros within melee range but with cover from the door.

Re: Old Ways IC
Brandon Bor
Brandon breaks out in a cold sweat when he kicks the door open, but he relaxes a bit and smiles as the first three goblins go up in smoke.
He doesn't want to relinquish the protection of his shield, but he also doesn't want to walk through the flames just yet. So he draws his dagger and moves to hurl it at one of the two unwounded goblins lurking beyond the fire, his lips moving as he prays to the Immortals for good battle luck and the defeat of his enemies.
Spoiler
This attack assumes Bran can draw his dagger and attack in the same round. If not, please ignore this roll.
I have not added a +1 for Strength because I can't find any rule that says Strength bonuses apply to hurled missile weapons. If Roland rules otherwise, of course I accept the bonus. :)

Re: Old Ways IC
Brandon flings a dagger into the chest of one of the goblins as Stefan's stone goes wide. Talsarios drops the oil flask into the doorway and the area erupts into flames.
Nathros rushes to the other door, jabbing a spear into the space. Gregaros jabs his dagger into the goblin around the door and seems to connect with something.
Spoiler
The doorway to the first room is obstructed by flames and the two living goblins (one injured) are difficult to see (partial cover).
The doorway to the other room is still open a crack with Gregaros leaning on it and Nathros standing near the opening.
If the goblins attacked this turn, their efforts were imperceptible.

Brandon Bor
Brandon snarls, "Curse it, I can't even see through the flames now."
So he steps to the left and out of any arrow fire that might be coming his way. "I don't speak Goblin. Can one of you shout that you demand their surrender?"
Then he says to the teamsters, "Hey, pass me a few of those goblin daggers. I threw mine into the room. I think it's in a goblin chest."
Then he remembers his manners. "Please."

Re: Old Ways IC
Nathros jabs the one of the goblins leaning into the door and he falls away with a gasp. The tide turns and Gregaros can easily push the door closed as Nathros draws back his spear.
The flames continue to burn goblin flesh, wood, cloth and straw, filling the little room with smoke. Brandon stands in the doorway as Stefan and Jeanne cover him with their missile weapons. Goblin hollering can be heard from behind the wall of smoke.

Re: Old Ways IC
"Surrender? Are goblins really that stupid, having witnessed us slaughter those prisoners we already had?"
Gregaros leaned hard on the door, his eyes searching for some means with which to brace or jam it shut against them.
And some other churl can slit the throats of the next captives we take, I think I may be sick enough already.
SpoilerIf he can brace some beam against the door this will suffice, but if not perhaps a paving slap or cobble might be lifted up to catch against the base of the door and wedge it shut for the practical future?

Re: Old Ways IC
Brandon Bor
Brandon looks surprised, then angry as Talsarios throws a flask of oil.
"Darn it, Talsarios, what are you doing?! There's already too much fire in the room; do you have to add more oil?"
"Just stop with the oil already. We don't know how bad the fire beyond is, and if it's set the walls on fire."
SpoilerRoland, please note that Brandon stepped to one side of the doorway, so that missile weapons would have to go around a corner to hit him.
He can't see anything to hit beyond the flames, so he's chosen to get out of the way and thus avoid being hit at all.

"If the likes of our poor lamp oil can ignite stone walls, it matters little how many we've thrown for our goose will be cooked in short order. They'll likely run out of there, though it be through the flames - otherwise they'll drown in the smoke. Best be ready for them!"
Gregaros nodded at the smoking doorway as he spoke.

Talsarios tosses his flask into the room, where it explodes mid-air in a burst of flame. The far end of the room is still masked by the billows of smoke and rising flames.
Gregaros reaches to grab a nearby training dummy, its center post being the best door brace around. Nathros jabs the goblin that cracks open the door as another arrow flies out but misses the dwarf.

The fire blazed and smoked, though perhaps a bit less now. Still, the room was impassable and obscured. Brandon and Stefan waited outside it for goblins to emerge.
Jeanne backed into the middle of the room, stepping over the various bodies, and watching both doors.
At the other door, Nathros and Gregaros waited with weapons readied. The door remained closed, though.
