Re: Pokemon GITP League
No, I'm not okay with it though. Limiting OUs AND Items really puts a dent in the capabilities of the challenger. keeper and every other gym leader, I'm sure you can cover your weaknesses, no matter how feebly it may be.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
I've been operating with an item clause the whole time anyway because I didn't want to have to change my team if it turns out I had to follow one. I don't really care if challengers are subjected to it or not but I think it might be more fun over all if they're not, allows them to run more interesting teams.
Really I gotta be honest I don't care that much if challengers use six OUs and just steam roll a gym leader. The way I see it being easily counterable is part of the gym leader experience, I mean you can't say Brock wasn't easy to counter, or Misty, or Morty, or any of the others. I can understand that being easy to counter sucks as a player but its kind of part of the gym leader job description.
One other thing Gym Leaders have to remember. Challengers still only have a set amount of Pokemon (Somewhere between 8 and 10 I believe ). There are eight gyms plus the elite four running twelve different themes in total, there's no way one challenger can counter all of those with his limited Pokemon. Chances are there will be a few challengers that steam roll straight through you and get stalled up by the other leaders but there will be just as many who down your colleagues instantly but have no response for your team.
All of that said though, if we are planning on limiting the number of OUs used I think we have to limit them properly, which is why I voted against Gen V. Gotta keep the rules consistent or there's no point having them .
Anyway that's just my two cents.Other Avatars:

Re: Pokemon GITP League
I think we should skip the item clause entirely. It doesn't really make that much sense.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
why are we restricting the Challenger pokemon to only 8? I'm somewhat curious now, since thetsyman brought it up. Or are we having a 2 out of 3 match, where the challenger only has some leeway with only 8 for that gym, and can switch out 'mons inbetween battles.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
I think the idea is the challenged puts together a team, and gets 4 pokes to sub in whenever. Then they challenge the league with it. I think they get to do even more once they get to e4.
I think once we get this off the ground and manage to get an idea what gyms are harder that others we can perhaps set up more specific rules for each gym leader. Such as giving the challenger more ou pokemon. Thanks to Linklele for my new avatar!

Re: Pokemon GITP League
Yes, but they aren't OU for a reason, and with only 10 in the BL category, it's not going to make a HUGE impact. Yes I understand why they are not UU, but by the same token, they also aren't strong enough to be OU.
Really good points, and that's kinda really what I'm thinking. Gym Leaders are going to know what their weaknesses are, and are trying to cover it. With only 10 pokemon to try and think of every possibility, they have enough of a challenge on their own. Sometimes they will get smashed, and sometimes they will smash you, it's luck of the draw I guess.
Although, I was going to try and make sure that the Leaders teams didn't get public, that way the challengers have to decipher what the theme means, and anticipate what is coming. And since they can challenge more than once, it doesn't really change anything, since they can see the team and try again.
And if everyone seems to hate it so much, we won't use the item clause.
They will be restricted to 10, and it's so that they can't go and change their team for every leader, making it super easy to squash every leader, with a team designed to squash.Want to be a Master? Join the GitP Pokemon League.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
Is there anywhere that challengers should post their pokemon list for approval? Also, are we allowed to set our Trainer Names to something different than our Forum Usernames?
Edit: Which Trainercard design are we using? Or could we just sig the badges we have, and not put them in a big, team-revealing Card?Last edited by Qwertystop; 2010-11-07 at 11:17 AM.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
We don't have a regristration yet. And someone else is coming up with a trainer card design, so I'm waiting on the results of that before I make one official.
I think that is should be your forum user name, just to keep it simple.

Well, if ethan has sent in an app, I think we have a perfect number of people to begin choosing the Elites and accepting challengers

Re: Pokemon GITP League
So i was wondering, anyone other than me testing out gym builds on the beta servers and others. I kinda feel like I'm putting more work into it than is needed for a fairly mid position gym.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
Kelanrox only just made the gym leaders official. So we haven't gotten the challenger applications ready yet.
:EDIT: I was thinking, we should all agree on the naming conventions for the towns the gyms are in. Since in every region they seem to have similar feel to them.Last edited by Dragonus45; 2010-11-08 at 08:47 PM.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
You mean like one united theme? (Aka, the Kanto cities named after colors) Or the towns are named based on the Gym Leader's theme?

Re: Pokemon GITP League
Why are towns and stuff needed? It's just a gym leader team, right? Or are you planning on making minor "gym trainer" teams to battle first? (actually, that might be fun, if you add different rules for gym trainer battles, like before each gym battle, you do a double battle with 2 of yours against 2 pokemon that fit the opponent's theme, or a level 5 gym trainer battle where all higher-level moves are removed, and you use the lowest evolution, not that hard to change your existing team for that; you know, sort of mini-battles)
