The Zed Virus (A Choose Your Own Adventure game)
The rules: (subject to change upon my whim)
SpoilerYou remember those Choose You Own Adventure books you read as a kid. It'd tell you what's going on then give you a few options and tell you what page to turn to. You could live, you could die, either way, this is your story. You get to decide who you are, what you do, and why you do it.
That's basically what this is, except there's more than one person deciding what's going to happen next. So while it is your story, collectively, you have to work as a team. Good luck with that.
At the start of the game, you get to decide who you are and your first actions. Which ever identity gets the most votes within a day or two wins, depending upon activity. After that, actions are decided in a similar fashion.
When deciding if actions work, it's based on two things the first being Teamwork - that is, how much discussion and planning and agreement goes into an action. For example, if everyone decides to punch your boss in the face, then it'll work better and be more effective. The second factor is whether or not I want it to work. >> That may or may not include stuff like your actions so far, your build, your current status, and perhaps a die roll or two.
Make sense?
If not, ask. If they do... let's get started.
Two men sat on the screen, each sitting in comfortable looking orange chairs, a waist-high wood table separating them, two bottles of water on either side. The man on the right was young, probably in his mid twenties, with perfect teeth and fifty-dollar hair, wearing a smart suit - in support of his station's recent cancer awareness campaign, a pink handkerchief was tucked into his breast pocket. On the left side of the screen, an slightly older man - probably in his early thirties, sat with tense shoulders. His hair, even after obvious attempts at taming it, was shaggy and whiter than it should be at his age. His face was worn with wrinkles and bags hung under his eyes. The white labcoat he wears hangs loosely around his just a little too thin frame. Despite his comfortable chair, the man in the labcoat did not look terrible comfortable.
As the camera zooms in on the pair, a theme fades away. "And we're back." Says the man in the smart suit. "I'm here with Doctor Cedric Zanger, of the North Vancouver University of Medical Science. Thanks for coming all the way down here, Dr. Zanger. I understand you're quite busy with your research. Why don't you tell us about it?"
"I'd be glad to, Paul." Dr. Zanger said with a forced smile. "My team and I at the university have been following reports of dead bodies rising up in hospitals around the Vancouver area for quite some time now. We were re-"
"If I could just interrupt you, Doctor, to those of you unfamiliar with what Dr. Zanger is talking about, there have been recent reports of coma victims waking up, usually after three to five days, and attacking their nurses. These individuals were restrained, and usually died after three or four days, even after being put on life-support."
"Right." Confirms Dr. Zanger, nodding. "Recently, my team and I were donated a cadaver of one such patient. We've been testing it rigorously for the past 72 hours and-"
Dr. Zanger's voice is cut off as your phone ring on the other side of the room. You can go pick it up, if you want, but first...

If you need me somewhere, don't hesitate to PM me. I have bad mental health days sometimes, so if I vanish that's probably why. PMs will help break me out of that.

We should be Marion from Undead. He has a 3-in-1 shotgun.
Shots rang out, as shots are wont to do.

You could certainly be a cadaver.
But then, it'd probably be a very short game."You tied your wings on tightly but they always come undone"

Re: The Zed Virus (A Choose Your Own Adventure game)
Hahaha, but that would make things too easy....or insane...
Oh man, that movie was amazing in so many ways.
Hmmm. I will have to suggest we're a Vault Dweller. You know, that guy or gal who under whatever strange circumstance has come out of his/her vault in whatever wasteland armed only with a PIP-Boy 2000, a lead pipe, a very out of date model of pistol, a handful of bullets, an invisible backpack with unbelievable storage room (really have you ever wondered how they carry all that stuff around while wearing only a suit with no discernible pockets?) and some (deliciously fresh?) radroach meat.
I'd have to vote our gender be female just to be different I suppose.
Oh yes, and I think we should answer that phone promptly.Last edited by Ramsus; 2010-11-02 at 02:57 AM.

I think we should be Vanessa McClure, the doctor's research assistant. Bookish, shy, smart.
And I think we should answer the phone.Spoiler

Re: The Zed Virus (A Choose Your Own Adventure game)
Vanessa McClure it is.

You stand from your chair - a soft, old brown armchair you found two years ago at a garage sale - and rise, muting the television as you pass it. As much as you wanted to watch Cedric's interview, you disliked background noise while on the phone. Barefoot, the tile of your living room is chilly as you walk across it to your bookshelf, by the door. This particular bookshelf is one of many, and getting close to over-full, with only enough room for the wireless phone's charging stand between the books. Picking the phone up from it's cradle, you turn it on and hold it to your ear.
"Hello?" you ask, leaning against the bookshelf. It was a sturdy, heavy oak structure, fully capable of holding your slender weight.
"Hi, Vannie." It's your sister, Janet. Janet moved away a few years ago, to live in Alberta, when her job demanded it. "I just saw your boss' interview. You worked on that?" Janet asks, incredulously, and a little bit worried. She's in the next time-zone over, the interview would have just ended for her.
You sigh. It's late, you're tired. Like Cedric, you've been working on the case for many, many long weeks. This is your first night out of the lab in weeks, and that's only because Cedric felt bad about making you and the others work while he was off in New York. But still, you haven't talked to Janet in months. What do you do?"You tied your wings on tightly but they always come undone"
