Do pick up the 2nd-level bard spell called Harmonize from Races of the Stone (yes, from the books of the gnomes!). It lets you activate bardic music as a move action. It's a great way to start two bard songs in one round without needing levels in Seeker of the Song or War Chanter. Although War Chanter isn't a bad option if you're going for a melee bard.

If you don't want any prestige classes, a straight bard would is pretty awesome. Here are some other spells you may want to consider:

1st
Improvisation (Spell Compendium): gives you luck points that you can use to get bonuses on attack roll or skill checks
Immediate assistance (Complete Mage): immediate action, lets an ally reroll a skill check they just made
Instant Diversion (Races of the Dragon): swift action, gives you a bunch of illusory doubles that last for one round and can move in different directions

2nd
Elation (Book of Exalted Deeds): +2 to STR and DEX for everyone
Harmonize (Races of Stone)
Glitterdust

3rd
Glibness
Haste
Refreshment (Book of Exalted Deeds): heals all nonlethal damage (good if you're using Words of Creation)

4th
Celerity (PHB 2)
Dimension Door
Greater Mirror Image (PHB 2): Mirror image as an immediate action
Sirine's Grace (Spell Compendium): gives you deflection bonus to AC equal to your CHA modifier, gives you enhancement bonuses to DEX and CHA

5th
Greater Blink (PHB 2): like Blink without the miss chance when you attack
Greater Dispel Magic
Greater Heroism

6th
Superior Resistance (Spell Compendium)
Snowsong (Frostburn): +4 insight bonus to AC, +4 to CHA, +1d6 cold melee damage and a bunch of other bonuses
Empyreal Ecstacy (Book of Exalted Deeds): halves melee and ranged damage and makes everyone immune to mind-affecting effects (except stuff that's already on them), but has some penalties to skills and spellcasting.
