    @Lil Shiro: Sounds good

@Lazy Genius: Huh. You know Danish? Or did you just let Google Translate mangle it?

"Hudoerne" is a made up word (based in the Greek word for water), so I guess it'd still be "hudos" or "hudoes". I'm... not really that into extended D&D*, but their basis was the (Danish equivalent to the) will'o'wisp, but it kinda spiraled into a more direct, oldschool fairy people who tie pretty closely into the whole "mystery of magic" the setting has. Their dependence on water would also cause much bigger clashes with humans who tend to settle near watery parts, too.
Plus, I like the idea of visciouos little buggers ambushing poor travellers who just stumbled across a nice oasis >D

*Gonna look those two up, though.

I'm multilingual, but I admit I don't know Danish, Google Translate does, however, and it didn't seem too mangled either. The two races I mentioned are both in Stormwrack, btw.

Ah, thanks. My lazy google searching skills couldn't pick them up.

Also, just to get it somewhere noticable: Mad Mask sent me enough short stories to pass this Monday. I didn't get it up here before now, but Mad Mask passes and thus keeps a two-week streak.
    Sorry for the slowness, Mad.

    Oh, no problem.

I might decide to use short films as part of my Challenge submissions. I assume it would use a similar system to that of writing, perhaps 30 seconds/piece?

Hmm. I remember a rule of thumb being that you need an hour of filming for one minute of finished film. If that's somewhat true, 30 seconds/piece definitely sound reasonable.

Fancy "watching the same crowded street for two hours" art films and other low-effort stuff would count for less, of course

Glass Mouse passes with a magical girl, ten-ish assorted drawings of own mage characters, plus some writings.

Mad Mask passes with a short film and a series of car drawings.

    Lil Shiro didn't upload anything.

Lazy Genius didn't upload anything. Edit: Nope, he passes with a plot outline.

Thus, Lil Shiro FAILS this round!

Glass Mouse, Mad Mask and Lazy Genius PASS this round!

Jeg tager to skridt mere.
Engang.
Stadig intet svar. Anti-luft.
Jeg tager endnu et skridt. Nej.

Whatever doesn't set you up for a fall. If you can handle this week, cool. If you need a week to get into the right mindset, just as cool.

Since I'm already posting, I might as well throw out a few other things.

Number one: I'll be away for all of week 49.

This means I can't status update for Sunday the 4th of December. There are two solutions for this:
    1) Someone else takes over the status updates for that week, counts contributions and make a regular status post, and I'll edit the counts into the opening post as soon as I get back.
    2) Nothing happens for the 4th, but we have a two-for-one status update on the 11th.

In any case, just upload your contributions as usual. Any volunteers for option 1?

Number two: I made a FAQ.

I decided to finally sit down and work out a FAQ (and a small change of the opening post rules) to make it easier for new participants. I think I covered everything, but I'd like a little feedback, especially if you feel there's something missing or confusing here.

    Spoiler
    Show
    The rules are simple:
    • Each week, starting the week after you accept the CHALLENGE, you are to upload six creative works done by yourself. Sunday is the deadline.
    • Every week you meet the CHALLENGE, you'll get a week counter. If you fail to meet the CHALLENGE, your counter will reset. Every time you reach 8 weeks, you earn a prize.
    • For inspiration, every week a participant picks a theme - going by the list. Feel free to use the theme in your works, but it's not mandatory.
    • Anyone is free to enter the CHALLENGE, and it continues for as long as there are participants.

    Frequently Asked Questions
    Spoiler
    Show

Where can I upload my works?
Anywhere goes, really. DeviantArt is a popular spot, as is a thread here on gitp, but you can use Photobucket, PM the finished works to me, or anything else you'd like (some even put their works in this thread from time to time).
The only requirement is that I must be able to find it, so please keep your contributions in one spot, or throw me a PM with links if you need to scatter it.

    What is a "creative work"?
The creative work may be drawing, sculpting, writing, anything creative. It needs to be an actual work (no doodles or unfinished pieces), but there are different requirements for different types of works.

    Drawings
The rule of thumb is that one drawing equals one piece. But any work with multiple pieces fit to stand on their own can be counted as multiple submissions. A couple of examples:
Two non-descript generic people playing chess, no background = 1.
Two distinct characters playing chess, no background = 1 each.
-//- playing in a cafeteria = as above +1 for the scene
-//- with a detailed mall/cityscape/other elaborate setting = characters +1 for immediate surroundings +1 for the larger backdrop. Possibly another +1 if there's a notable event or scene in the background.

    Writing
For writing, a piece is defined as 250 words. This can stack, so it need not be finished works (a full week would be 1500 words). Please include a word count anytime you submit writing.

A poem (any length) counts as one.

    Films
For shortfilms and the like, 30 seconds count as a piece. This can also stack.

    Figurines
One figurine counts as one piece. Easy-peasy.

What is the deal with the themes?
Every week, there's a theme chosen by a CHALLENGE participant. We go through the participant list one by one, and you're are free to pick anything.
A good theme is specific enough to matter, but vague enough to be interpreted in different ways.

The themes are not obligatory, but it's always fun to see how different people use different themes. In the status update, I will give special mention to whatever pieces followed the themes.

    What are the prizes?
Currently, I'm the only prize-crafter, and I offer one drawing of anything you'd like (I do character portraits tolerably, but illustrations and other stuff works, too).

If you have a prize you want to offer, speak up.

    RELIGION

    MAGI
Magi kom til verden, da Age of Snakes begyndte.
    Magiens opståen beskrives i historieafsnittet.

Ironisk nok.

When it comes to writers block my best suggestions would be listen to music (even stuff you normally wouldn't), or if you are stressed to relax.

I like the theme. It's funny.

But I can see why you'd find it limiting, Shiro. I probably won't do more than one piece with it, at most.

I think this is the first time I've actually had writer's block, so if you have any tips, possibly from experience, I'd love to hear them...
Ohhh, do I know that one!

I've heard a lot of advice by now. Some are contradictory, but different solutions work for different people. Hopefully, one of them works for you.

    (spoilered for length)
    Spoiler
    Show

    1) Before writing anything, write yourself "warm" on babble. Just write without thinking, and delete it afterwards (or keep a document of babble, or have an entire story of nonsense (I tried that one, it was fun)). Point is, just go in complete free-form mode and don't think about quality at all. Do this for a predetermined period of time (fx 10 minutes), if you will, but that's not mandatory.

    2) Meditate. It's in line with ShadowySilence's suggestion, but the point is: take 10 minutes of just sitting with your eyes closed, possibly listen to good music, and let your mind wander; either whereever you want, or fantasize about your story. Relaxation is a godsend for writing.

    3) Reread previous scenes of your work. This one never really worked for me, but I've heard others recommend it.

    4) Kiiiinda a combination of 2 and 3, but try to reimagine a scene that's really, really intense. I usually have a defining point or two for my characters (whether they're written yet or not), and thinking about those instantly gets me in their mindset.

    5) Read something new. Pick a book, read. If it's good, your head will be buzzing with creativity, and you'll want to write. If it's bad, the "I can do better than this garbage! To the Write Mobile!" effect will strike.

    6) Throw out the project and start anew. This ONLY works if you get writer's block rarely. It's a horrible, horrible solution if it turns into a habit. But some stories just aren't meant to be written (yet), and you have to respect that.

    7) Distract yourself. Go for a walk, do the dishes, play with the dog, anything. Hopefully, when you come back, the block has gotten a bit more quiet.

    8) Don't give yourself the option of quitting. Force yourself to write SOMETHING. It should be a predefined amount, fx 10 lines, and don't quit until they're written. Once they're done, if you still want to stop, stop. If you want to go on, hey, problem solved!

    9) Make a habit of writing, fx 30 minutes every day. It'll be tough at first, but if you manage to turn it into an actual habit, writing will be easier every day.

    10) If you've met a stumbling block with something that doesn't "click" in your story, figure out what doesn't fit together, and fix it. Sometimes it's as simple as that. Just beware, because this can be a trap as well if you endlessly postpone the actual writing because you want to plan irrelevant details.

    11) Draw something.

Personally, I often lose interest in a story the moment it's entirely plotted out. It's extremely annoying, and the only thing that works for me is to let up. Give myself some freedom. I usually introduce a new character or eff up a plot point something fierce, so I'll have to figure everything out along with my characters.
I've no idea if this works for you, too.

The "forced to write" works wonders for me, personally. I was incredibly uninspired yesterday, but I had to do something for the Challenge, so I thought I'd do this week's writing piece on magic, however uninspired I felt. That... kinda spiraled into 1100-ish words.
It happens almost every time I do that. I love the transition from uninspired to "noooo, I can't stop now, who needs sleep anyway, go away!"

    Good luck overcoming it! Cheers!

It's my turn to choose a theme, and I say claustrophobia.

Also, I grew tired of putting up vast amounts of text here, so now everything is on Google Docs. My setting and the novel.

Also, hooray guys! I seem to be back in writing!

ShadowySilence, I was unsure if your Theoretica story was meant for this week or the last, but it was uploaded Sunday, so I took it for last week. Contact me if that was mistaken, I don't want to fail you unfairly

I guess I hadn't been thinking about that when I wrote it, I suppose since it wasn't included in last weeks count it could go for this week. Really it is up to you though, I wouldn't want to unfairly continue if the rules say I shouldn't.

If it wasn't meant for this week, I can't make it so.

Sad. You were so close. Almost feels like a habit now, doesn't it? :D

    True.

I seem to still be fashionably procrastinating , although I am getting a little better. I have set up a challenge of my own for over Christmas break so hopefully that helps.

    Good job, Shadow!

Shiro, I don't know if Christmas was included in the theme. Apologies if that was too broad an interpretation.

Also, next week's status will be late, since I won't be anywhere near internet until Monday evening. Just upload as usual, and it'll show up.
    Cheers!
