Okay, it's official; Fluttershy is the bravest and most badass pony in all of Equestria, hands down.
Seriously, she's terrified of a lot of things, but if someone or something she cares about is in trouble she'll face them down, be in manticore, dragon or flipping cockatrice.
And she does it by talking them down!

Think about it, Twilight could defeat an Ursa Minor, and is one of the most powerful characters in the show; but she was beaten by the cockatrice. And then Fluttershy comes along, whips out The Stare and terrifies said monster in undoing what it had done and beats its own magic into the ground as she's being turned into stone herself.

Fluttershy is now my favourite pony. Sorry Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, everyone else, but you just can't handle Fluttershy's sheer levels of awesome.
And she's still so adorable.

Funny moments:
Trottingham - there'd better be a My Little Outlaw Pony there, possibly rebelling against Celestia's Iron Hoof?
Elizabeak - I'm such a child.
The snail.
Children. Someone did their research on babysitting at a sleepover.
So many fun moments.
But I do actually think this is quite a scary episode for the target audience given what actually happened.

I said it would be about the girls learning not to take advantage of kindness, while they said that it would be about Fluttershy learning to put her hoof down when it's in others' best interest. I think I lost that one; while there were elements of both in there, the Fluttershy-lesson was the bigger element.

Oh gods yes. That part at the beginning, where the kids are grinning manically while trying to convince Rarity that they can go? I can't even tell how many times I've seen that exact scenario play out, exactly like that. Even the expressions were just perfect, on everypony.

Also, I had to shovel a massive amount of snow out of my driveway today, and I had Winter Wrap-up stuck in my head the whole time. I might put it on my mp3 player for just such occasions . . . although it made me sad, because in my case, spring isn't tomorrow, it's still probably 3-4 months away and I am actually beginning to think that 'spring' is just some silly fantasy concept I made up to keep myself from going mad from all the snow . . .

The moment I heard Fluttershy suggest they could sit down and "quietly" color, I thought "Yeaaah...you can give them crayons, but good luck getting three little girls to be quiet for more than 5 seconds. Much less sit down in one spot for more than a minute.".

If the description for episode 19 is any indication, there are "Diamond Dogs", which force ponies to find gems for them, or else they um...something. You'll have to wait two weeks to find out.

I'm rather digging the mythic mash-up though. This IS a magical kingdom after all, with unicorns, pegasi, and dragons. Extra creature diversity is always appreciated...and the very idea of a cockatrice being something so...silly, really fits in with the rest of the world.

Yes, I would like to remind everyone that Twilight Sparkle's brain was technically dead at one point, so her string of consciousness was most likely broken, resulting in something similar to the Star Trek Teleporter problem, in which the "Twilight Sparkle" that exists now is a bunch of atoms transmuted from stone into the exact shape of Twilight Sparkle, with the same memories and brain patterns as Twilight Sparkle, but the real entity that she was is, in fact, dead.
