R6T23: Desiria decides to spend at least one more round firing her ray, she would drop out of the Mother's range but she doesnt have the control of the spell. It is a lousy shot, terrible in fact as she is distracted by the wailing young, and yet it still hits the levia-plant for 18 fire.

By the way, the spell is d6, not d8. That said, when I rolled damage it was still 18. Myhriss wills it.

R6T22: Doc Cohen drinks the potion, but he is bitten in the right hand for 11 mod. As with most dwarves, he is too tough to let such pain make him drop the potion. He gulps it down and then breathes a gout of flame that the Mother manages to minimize to 8 fire with her wet exterior and throwing the young on the walls in the way to protect her.

R6T17: Darrius, what do you do? You are climbing and you are 40' from the deck .... just under and adjacent to her.

R6T12: Tom complies with Desiria's request, lowering her by about ten feet. He then points at the Mother and releases a beam of numbing cold. The ray hits her squarely, and now you have to determine if it worked ...

R6T3: ... and you don't think it did. It is just as slow and lumbering as before. At a lower height of 45', and with Tom and Desiria (now) at 30', the angry Mother attacks the woman who has burnt her. She bites Desiria in the chest for 11 mod and claws her there for 6 mod as the other claw clips her alongside the head for 4 mod (min) damage. Mother now slides down 5' so her bottom part is 40' off of the deck. Desiria is now well into the yellow.

End Round 6, Begin Round 7 ....

R7T27: Agnipati readies another spear while sloshing to a point where she is no longer directly underneath the Mother. She throws her spear and hits Mother for a maximum damage, but it only does 10 mod.

R7T23: Desiria, you are 30' off the deck, and the Mother is 40' off the deck. What do you do? You are battered and slashed.

Needing to keep herself alive if she is going to keep helping, Desiria has to spend this round channeling healing energy on herself.

R7T23: Needing to keep herself alive if she is going to keep helping, Desiria has to spend this round channeling healing energy on herself. It is a tough tactical decision, knowing that healing energy affects all within the burst's 30' range, but hopefully the added boost will help everyone take down the monster quicker, despite the healing it receives as well.

The rabbi and Shouting Tree are fully healed, Tom has the slightest scratch, and Desiria and the Mother of All get 14 healing.

You can't channel selectively except for two options:
1) Postive energy in a 30' burst to healing all living creatures, or
2) Positive energy in a 30' burst to damage undead.

R7T22: The rabbi's control is good enough to give him a 5' fly down to be level with Desiria. "I've never seen anyone do a burst when there were enemies that could benefit; but with all the healing you gave everyone - including myself - that was brilliant."

He spits another gout of flame, though again the wetness and slime of the Mother reduces the damage to 6 fire.

R7T17: Darrius? What do you do? You are at the top (100' from bottom of the shaft), directly above Mother. The top of her is at the 55' from deck mark (45' from you).

R7T17: Darrius climbs down 20' (80' from deck) to get within spitting distance of Mother (25' from her) and lets loose with spittle. It is less of a spray and more of a solid, boring hit for a respectable 17 acid.

R7T13: Shouting Tree fires an arrow that whallops her for 5 mod.

R7T12: Tom, you have control of the levitate spell; you and Desiria are 30' from deck. Desiria is adjacent to you. Feather fall is still active. The bottom part of Mother is 40' from deck, 10' above you, and remember she has a 15' reach. Your cold breath weapon has returned.

What do you do?

Tom is all out of ideas. There's nothing he can really do to hurt this thing. But what about... He lets himself drift a few feet downward and then concentrates...

...and nothing happens.

What was supposed to happen...

The faint mist at the bottom of the pit seems to coalesce, and an enormous, spectral figure, nearly as tall as the Mother, suddenly emerges from the muck. It appears to be a sailor... even a ship's captain... wearing a long beard and dressed in a naval uniform jacket and a tri-corner hat. The ghost draws a massive cutlass from a scabbard at its waist... and the blade of the sword immediately bursts into flame. It stares up at the Mother with glowing eyes, pointing at her and making a beckoning motion with its burning weapon and snarling a wordless challenge... AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR! Is justice finally at hand for all of the poor sailors who have met their doom at the Mother's hands? Not waiting for the Mother to strike, it begins to levitate slowly upwards...

I hope that evil bitch falls for this...

Tom continues to concentrate on the oversized likeness of the late, lamented Captain Griggs of the Lost Merchant... with just a bit of dramatic license added in. He does not have time to explain what's going on to his comrades and does not know if the Mother would overhear him and understand if he tried. Hopefully they will figure out that an angry sailor will be on their side...

I loved the writeup. It was awesome. But getting a '2' on your Concentration check to overcome the babble didn't help you. That did earn you RP/XP, though, because the effort and idea were cool.

R7T3: With a malice that Desiria might well see as unfair, Mother whips her attacks out at her. The bite is a wild attack, and despite the doctor's powerful aura the sheer size of Mother's maw bites Desiria in the L lower leg for mod 15. The first claw is a lousy attack, and this time Cohen's aura deflects it, but it just can't help the crit-mod 16 that shatters Desiria's R shoulder and nearly disables her. Desiria spins practically like a top and her vision is blurry. She is barely holding on as blood is fast filling her right lung.

End Round 7, Begin Round 8 ...

R8T27: Another fine toss of a spear by Agnipati for 6 mod.

R8T23: Desiria, you can't take another hit. (Check your hps!) Another bite like that and she could kill you outright. Tom already moved 5' below you and didn't help your position. You are 30' from the deck; Mother's perspective to you is 40' from deck (10' difference). Not only does the babbling continue if you want to concentrate to even begin casting a spell, but defensive casting is your only sane option and you'd have to focus with that as well.

Things look dire for Desiria. What do you do?

R8T17: Darrius? You have a poor view of what is happening on the underside of mother, but you do know Desiria is getting riddled when you hear her scream with curses.

Darrius maintains his range just out of reach and he spits again, hitting what seemed to be a sweet spot, but the additional water there dilutes the damage to only 9 acid. It is still devastating, as bits of acid start to eat through and even drop past some of the heroes!

R8T13: Another very solid bow shot from Shouting Tree for 5 mod. Big glops of vegetation now are beginning to fall down but she is still at the wall.

R8T12: Tom, what do you do?

You know that if you don't get to Desiria, and vice-versa, safely, she is going to get killed. Already, the Mother is readying a bite and Desiria is likely the target. Unlike in the past, Mother seems to possess a strange cunning. When Desiria attempted to cast the spell but failed, Mother had a perfect time to strike .... but didn't! If you move Desiria greater than 5', Mother will get a free bite. On the other hand, if you don't get Desiria the hell out of there, she'll get a bite and two claws.

To make matters worse ... when Mother is killed ... and it doesn't look like she has much more to go, what goes up must come down. Agnipati and Shouting Tree (at the bottom) happen to be off to the side. However, you, Desiria, and Doc Cohen are vertically under this Huge creature. Mother's death might actually be more devastating than her living attacks!

R8T12: Tom lowers Desiria, but the priestess of Myhriss is bitten in the chest for 15 mod as soon as she is brought down 5'. Tom still levitates her down and casts CMW on her in an effort to see if there is any life in her yet and to heal her. A consideral amount of positive energy is pumped into Desiria, but her wounds do not heal. She is dead.

"We need to start climbing sideways! That thing is going to fall and crush us!"

R8T3: The Mother of All now brings her anguish and pain towards the one with the disgusting aura of light, the flame of breath and weapon, and the annoyance of healing power. Her terrible jaws snap wildly at him, but a claw lashes his upper right arm for 3 mod while the other hits him in the other lower arm for 2 mod. She then slorps 5' upwards.

End Round 8, Begin Round 9 ...

R9T27: Agnipati throws her last normal spear, hitting Mother for 9 mod. The spear gets sucked into the creature, and the cacophony gets silent. Mother than gives this absolutely hideous screech/wail/moan as she partially explodes and there are a thousand screams that shake the very walls of the shaft.

Mother (or what's left of her) falls. Doc Cohen is the first, and he manages to partly shield himself and only takes 7 mod. Even with Tom's great agility, his recognition of the horror of Desiria's death distracts him long enough for 17 mod; despite getting hit full force, his hardiness, his spell and Mother's growing formlessness keeps him from getting dragged to the bottom. Desira is a different matter; Mother's bulk slams into just a few feet from Tom, ripping her out of his hands. Tom is the one who sees the priestess taken down, down, down to the bottom and through it in a churning mass, likely to never be seen again.

Combat Ends .... But Not the Action.
