Re: Total War: Future (IC)
To Coalition of Allied Planets
SpoilerSigma Draconis:
Curiously close inspection shows that most of the damage is actually some sort of camouflage. Most of it is merely debris pulled from elsewhere and attached to the ship. Underneath it all the ship appears to be intact and functioning. In fact your investigations appear to have triggered something as it is now broadcasting a signal, which seems to be directed at the inner system.
Your communications section also note that the other exploration, which has now been confirmed to be from the Light Shipyards is hailing you.
To Light Shipyards
SpoilerSigma Draconis:
OOC: I probably shouldn't have used that abbreviation. That's actually a Coalition of Allied Planets exploration ship in system with you not an NPC. You can communicate with them directly.
To Suula En'Coi
Spoiler36 Oph:
A further inspection of the small lifeforms reveal that although they are now dead they have several organs which might prove useful as psionic amplifiers with further research on how to integrate them with the Suula. Tracking the large one however proves futile as even a thorough search of their projected flight path reveals nothing. Most likely they changed trajectories once they activated whatever method they used to stealth themselves.
To House Varulf
SpoilerLalande 21185:
As the exploration ship moves back it loses contact with the survey team. Their last transmission is composed of some rather disturbing screams. Eerily enough this transmission is somehow relayed throughout the exploration ship despite the fact that the communications relay isn't connected to the internal PA. At the same time the number power sources on the moon is increasing. There now appear to be enough power sources to fuel an entire colony down there. Or a fleet.
To ISREC
SpoilerVan Maanen's Star:
Scans show a fairly large number of defensive emplacements, but not as many as might be expected to be produced from this level of industry, and almost all the ships in sensor range appear to be mining vessels with little armament. Surprisingly the vessels do appear to have a match in the exploration ships databases. The facilities have been heavily modified and upgraded but the base design appears to correspond with a very old system used by factions that used to exist on Earth long before the warp collapse. Also your hails are answered quite promptly although in a language none of the crew recognizes. The computer however flags it as being something called Russian and initiates a little used translation program. After translation the return message appears to be simple identification request.

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
WNNC Latest Updates:
Breaking News
The K'Krex, a race that have launched an invasion attempt against human space, shortly before the Warp Collapse Event, have emerged in the space of Light Shipyards, CAP and Reach. It appears their intent is diplomacy, but tensions are running high. WNNC will observe and report the situation as it develops. Monitor Updates.
Historic Facts: K'Krex Invasion
K'Krex invasion happened at the height of the Terran Federation's colonization effort. Their ships have emerged in the Light Shipyard's space without a warning. They were met by the Terran Fleet, that was stationed in the nearby system of YZ Ceti at the time. Read More.
In Related News: True Terran Fleet Denies K'Krex Right of Entry
In a bold move, Admiral Ross of the True Terran Fleet have declared that any K'Krex ship, that tries to pass through Bernard's Star system will be engaged and destroyed with extreme prejudice.
This announcement has generated mixed response in galactic community. While 43% polled people strongly agree, that tough measures must be taken to secure human worlds against potential aggressor, about 31% have called Admiral's actions premature, in the light of the possible diplomatic solution. Read More.
A New Colonization Wave?
The Light Shipyards announcement of their intention to establish a new colony was met with excitement in the galactic community. The optimists hope that this might be the beginning of the second great colonization effort. Read More.
Star Gods Invite Visitors
The Star Gods have issued an invitation for academics and seekers of spiritual enlightenment to visit their ''Divine Domain''. While few take the Star Gods claim to divinity seriously, the opportunity to study the alien culture under their control, has attracted a number of xeno culture specialists. Read More.
The Reach to K'Krex
The Reach warships surround the K'Krex ship. After one hour a ship with the Reach's top diplomat, Anna Laine, arrives to dock.
The Reach to Light Shipyards
Spoiler
The military alliance seems prudent, but we lack a significant force to present a threat to K'Krex. Let's hope the diplomacy works out.

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
As the ambassadors from the three visited systems approach, their ships are caught in a tractor beam and pulled inside the cavernous main hangar of each Hive Ship. Within hang rows upon rows of K'Krex fighters, and through translucent view-ports the humans can see the mammoth forms of the alien insects skittering about. Eventually, each ship is brought into the grip of powerful magnetic clamps, and an umbilical attaches to their main airlocks.
Leaving the safety of their ships, the ambassadors enter identical rooms that seem as though they were designed specifically to put the humans at ease. The walls are smooth, and unlike the majority of the K'Krex ship the light comes from a few, easily identifiable sources. A large round table dominates each room, with a bowl of refreshments as a centerpiece. However, the alien nature of the K'Krex still shines through, as said refreshments are foot-long bio luminescent grubs, squirming feebly. As they enter, the diplomats are treated to the sound of daggers striking steel as a K'Krex arrives in each room, red sashes tied around their barbed torsos. Reaching ovoid objects around their waists, each K'Krex begins to speak them, producing recognizable English over the screeching, clacking nightmare that was K'Krex speech.
Private Meeting with Light Shipyards, The Reach, and the CAP
Spoiler
*Thank you for coming, honored visitors. We speak for Fleet Admiral Riexak. Please, treat this as your nest for a time. We come to you with an offer of great promise. We intend to seize the mining facilities of YZ Ceti from the anarchists controlling them and restore the rule of...law. If you were to provide your political or military support, we would prioritize the economic output to benefit you.*

TO: GM: ArcaneStomper
Spoiler
the ship will continue it's investigation of the crash site, up to and including actually walking up to it (or floating i suppose, since it's a gas giant) to read where it's from.
TO: K'Krex:
Spoiler
The people of Tau Ceti have no current claims over YZ Ceti and the anarchist there. The government of Tau Ceti has no qualms about putting down anarchists, and the law of Tau Ceti says nothing about allowing a planet to be captured. If the K'Krex does not interfere with CAP space, or any current or future CAP allies, they will have no problems from CAP. You have our political support for YZ Ceti, but our military is week, and what little we have is used defensively and is not to leave the system.
TO: Light Shipyard Explor. Ship
Spoiler
No idea what causes the ships to get busted up. We're looking at a separate one right now, trying to see what caused it to go down, and then we're heading to look at the ring.

SpoilerOh god, why must my exploration attempt face this? :/
Well, my ++ Weapons, amplified by some small asteroids moved by my gathering vessels (Econ) are turned towards the signal sources. We open fire with extreme prejudice. The exploration vessel itself starts retreating and readying to leave the system but it launches smaller armed craft to protect it's escape as well as utilizing explosives meant for mining as well as warfare to bombard the moon's surface and, of course, using it's primary fusion-powered beam weaponry against any enemy targets that attempt to take off into space.

SpoilerThe exploration vessel identifies itself truthfully. We inform them the warp collapse event has passed, and the warp gates can now be reopened. We are one of many vessels searching the galaxy to connect the gates.
We offer the Russians a deal;
For us;
1) The Russians will join ISREC;
a) They will agree to only sell the the materials mined from their facilities to us.
b) They will agree to allow us set up the new ISREC central base on one of their planets.
c) They will agree to combine our respective military forces, for defensive and exploration purposes.
For them;
1) We will grant the Russians full access to all the latest technology
2) We will invest in the Russian complexes;
a) To upgrade them to the modern technological level
b) To allow them to mine all the solar system.
c) To improve their standard of living.
3) We will construct a warp gate, connecting Van Maanen's star to the main network.
4) We will grant them some executive power in the decision making processes of ISREC.
5) If we find any suitable mining locations in future exploration projects, the Russians will be granted full control of the mining operations.Last edited by razovor; 2011-02-11 at 11:37 AM.

Light Shipyards
Spoiler
*An unfortunate attitude. This meeting is over*
The diplomat is escorted back to his ship and allowed to disembark. The Hive Ship departs Light space shortly after.
The Reach
Spoiler
*The human population on the station is made up of indigents and pirates, with no formal government. Therefore, we cannot broker terms. However, once our initial strike is over we intend to give all inhabitants of the station the option to retreat into the custody of other systems. If they do not comply, we shall exercise full war doctrine.*
To CAP
Spoiler
* Excellent. We shall depart your space soon, and look forward to a profitable relationship.*
The K'Krex attempts something close to a smile, but it comes off more as a death grimace to the CAP ambassador as he leaves the Hive Ship. A few minutes later, a second Hive Ship emerges from the Warp Lane and a transmission is sent.
*Do not be alarmed. Our talks with Light Shipyards were less productive than we'd hoped, and we felt it best to leave their space. We shall depart together.*

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
To Coalition of Allied Planets
SpoilerSigma Draconis:
More signals are now being detected coming from the inner system. The unknown ship appears to be communicating with something, however your systems are unable to crack the encryption. It also now directing a signal at your exploration ship. The format is strange, but it appears to be a request for identification.
To House Varulf
SpoilerLalande 21185:
AS the exploration ship retreats its sensors reveal the ongoing changes occurring in the moon. Entire mountain ranges are opening up to deploy a variety of lethal looking weapon platforms as well as a set of the largest engines the ship's crew has ever seen. Fortunately the now mostly revealed dreadnought, which had been pretending to be a moon, takes it's time vaporizing the asteroids being thrown at it before following the retreating ship. The last thing the ship's sensors record before it escapes into the warp is the dreadnought beginning the process of redeploying it's camouflage.
OOC:SpoilerI laid out the events semi randomly and you just managed to get the worst luck. Anyway since you didn't spend much time exploring you can jump directly to another system and explore it instead of returning to your home system. It will cost you - economy from your ship for not resupplying first, but you won't lose any other stats for this since you retreated so promptly.
To ISREC
SpoilerVan Maanen's Star:
The Russians claim to be a part of the EVRAZ group. They politely reject the ISREC's offer saying that see little benefit to them in it, but they do inquire as to the latest events on Earth. They are especially interested in what happened to their parent company as they lost contact decades ago. And they also express an interest in this warp technology as they have never heard of it before.
Meanwhile the exploration ship's sensors manage to catch the fragments of a massive exchange of communications that has stirred up among the mining complexes. It is however too heavily encrypted to decipher without further study. And although the majority of the mining vessels continue their work uninterrupted a small flotilla of ships has formed up near the inner most planet and is heading towards the exploration ship.
The Light Shipyards
SpoilerSigma Draconis:
Besides the Coalition ship also in orbit around the gas giant there is little of interest. However scans do detect small clumps of debris scattered around the gas giant that appear to be parts of ships. Strangely scans indicate that the debris probably came from several fairly large ships. But there is not enough wreckage to actually account for the entire vessels or even the majority of them.

SpoilerThey haven't heard of warp technology? How did they get here then? How were they expecting to get their supplies back home?
Maybe it's the new exploration vessels they haven't heard of. Makes sense I suppose. The early pioneers could have traveled everywhere at slower than light speeds, and set up warp gates when they arrived.
Anyway, back to the matter at hand. I offered them free money, technology, and partial control of my company. They refused, so they're clearly up to something sneaky.

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
To ISREC
SpoilerVan Maanen's Star:
OOC: You haven't talked with them enough to find out there history yet, but basically you offered to merge them into your company and take control of them. And in return you offered them something they don't really need. This isn't just a few mining stations cut off from the rest of the galaxy. It's an entire faction of miners. There are thousands of mining ships just in your sensor range alone.
And on that note you would estimate that they probably rate as +/+++ defensive wise.
To Ascension Coalition
SpoilerWolf 359:
While the ship is in the middle of trying to thread through the anomalies its sensors reveal a new addition to the system. A House Varulf ship has just arrived in the system.
To House Varulf
SpoilerWolf 359:
During the warp travel the scientists on board the ship analysis the data collected during the retreat and eventually present there report to the captain. Although large the dreadnought appears to have little maneuverability, and as such they believe two or three well armed ships equipped with at least +++++ +++++ ++ worth of weaponry would be able to defeat it.
Upon emerging from warp the exploration ship is immediately shaken and thrown off course. The crew immediately has flashbacks to their recent experiences in the Lalande system, but fortunately the shaking soon stops and damage reports indicate that the ship suffered only minimal damage. Of note though is the fact that they do not appear to be the first ones here. Sensors indicate that there is an Ascension Coalition ship already in system. It appears to be attempting to reach the inner system, but it's course is very erratic.
The Light Shipyards
SpoilerSigma Draconis:
A closer analysis of the debris reveals that debris is actually quite recent only a few decades old at most. A structural analysis of the debris combined with some orbital modeling also reveals that the ship it came from was most likely moved out of orbit and deposited somewhere else.

SpoilerThe initial communications are rather frantic. From what you gather, the ship barely escaped something by inputting whatever coordinates they happened to have at hand.
Finally, order is resolved.
"Greetings. I am Captain Nome, the commanding officer of this exploration vessel. We had a close encounter with... well, we aren't sure what it was exactly, but it was powerful enough to kick around the entirety of the Terran Fleet of the old time and then some. So we escaped and ended up here.
And it seems this system's kind of weird aswell. What's going on?"

SpoilerAs we said. There are strong gravitational anomalies in this system, which disrupt the passage of ships through the system. The exact cause is unclear, and under investigation. We are also attempting to map a stable route through the system. We were conducting a sweep of the system, looking for possible colony and mining locations, when we were thrown off course by these anomalies.

Captain Adrian of the Vanguard responds to the Russians.
"EVRAZ you say? I'm afraid I haven't heard the name. I'll have my men search through the data logs, see if they can find anything.
Might we have permission to dock with your main complex? Theres a lot we can tell you about the state of galaxy, it might be easier if we do it in person."
I'll prepare documents on warp travel, earth and anything I've got on the area that was originally russia.

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
To Ascension Coalition:
SpoilerIt was a ship roughly the size of a small-ish planet.
To ArcaneStomper:
SpoilerOkay, gravitational anomalies eh?
Gravity is a field which propagates outward from it's source. What are the anomalies like? Does gravity fluctuate or stay static?
If it's static, then there's something, probably ultramassive particles, in the middle. If it fluctuates, my bet would be on the anomalies having to do with the Warp, some sort of a transporting effect either on the mass itself or just the field.
Our scientists will start studying these hypotheses - once we're on a rather stable situation we'll be using our ballistic weapons to fire at known anomaly locations to more easily study the exact effects without endangering our ship.
