To ArcanceStomper
SpoilerI'll leave them to it. I'm sure I'll run into it later.
For now, I have an inter-galactic reputation to build.
The Inter-Stellar Research and Exploration Corporation wishes to extend an invitation to the Sthuthid Federation. We are aware they require a neutral location to host their inter-galactic conference. We would like to extend to them use of the space around our base on 61 Cygni.
We invite a representative from the Sthuthid Federation to visit our base in advance and check it will be suitable.

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
Sthuthid Federation
The Whalechild was the fist Sthuthid ship to cross the void of space from the Sthuthid homeworld of Sulgoaad and colonize the faraway planet of Cardeen. That was over one-hundred years ago, before the Sthuthid federation understood how to travel through the warp.
Eighty years ago, the limited stable warp tunnel between Sulgoaad and Cardeen was established, and since then, no Sthuthid ship has traveled through the dangerous untunnelled warp.
Until now.
The symbolism wasn't lost on Captain Jharvid, whose job it was to bring the Whalechild through the gaping sandstorm of the Warp and come out on the other side, to Cygni 61 with about two-thousand high-profile diplomats and business-leaders. Among the VIP's on the ship were Administer Tsuul, executive of the Sthuthid Coalition government, and Chairman Skrall, the Chairman of the Board for the of the Cardeen Spice Company, which had about as much power and influence as the Coalition Government.
The ship already was barrelling through the warp-equivilent of six lightyears of space. Soon, they would emerge in a part of the Universe no Sthuthid had ever been...
I know how hard it is to deal with an influx of alien names, so here's a little refresher:
Spoiler
Whalechild - giant spaceship. Former colony ship.
Sulgoaad - Sthuthid homeworld
Cardeen - The sole Sthuthid colony, produces Spice, a drug which dominates Sthuthid culture
Captain Jharvid - Captain of the Whalechild
Administrator Tsuul - Executive of the Sthuthid Coalition government
Chairman Skrall - Executive of the Cardeen Spice Company

The Sumus
'Greetings. This is the Sumus. We are a peaceful civilisation, and we wish to be intergrated into the greater community in this area of space as soon as possible. We would like to open trade relations with everyone who is willing, Our exploration ships will be arriving shortly, and we request that any and all systems currently hosting 'war' give us clear warning so that we do not accidentally stumble into them. We would like to discuss the possibility of opening warp gates to some of your systems as soon as possible. Thank you, and we look forward to many years of peaceful cooperation.'

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
At 61 Cygni
The Sthuthid vessel makes it safely through the warp-lane. An ISREC vessel is waiting at the co-ordinates, which were agreed on before launch. The vessel approaches the Sthuthid vessel and hails them.
"Thank you for arriving so promptly, I am Martin Thom, CEO of ISREC. As you will have heard in my reports this is the home system of the Xens. They are a very hostile race, and it is crucial we do nothing to wake them from their slumber.
The vessel I've sent to meet you is an automated drone. Years ago we build a safe route through the system, the Xens won't be able to detect us. As long as you stay on course there is no danger. Our base isn't far, the drone will guide you.
On cue, the drone begins flying away from the Sthuthid vessel, following a slightly odd course to the ISREC base.

ISREC
The ISREC drone leads Whalechild through the system to the ISREC base. The base is constructed on one of the furthest planets in 61 Cygni. Even from orbit it is clear there is a massive construction project going on at the base. Thousands of cranes and workers dot across the area around the base, building labs, houses, offices and defences.
When the Whalechild arrives, it is met by several ships from ISREC. The larger of the vessels holds CEO Martin Thom, who hails the Whalechild and requests permission to board.

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
The Commonwealth (Esp. +++-, House Varulf 0)
Spoiler
The first session of the Commonwealth Government is held. The issues that are going to be discussed are:
1. Opening trade and diplomatic relations with Sumus and Sthuthid Federation.
The Triad Nations appear to be in favour of peaceful contact and trade, even True Terran Fleet isn't opposing the measure.
2. Dealing with Piracy
Everybody appears to be in agreement that pirates must be dealt with, but the old suspicions die hard. True Terran Fleet is pressing the issue, strongly in favour of joint military effort, since on paper they have greater control of the Commonwealth military. The other two nations are reluctant and consider dealing with piracy with their own forces, limiting cooperation to exchange of information. House Varulf voice will be deciding here.
3. Evaluating the threat of K'Krex Agression.
A rather hot button issue. All Triad nations are in favour of diplomacy, but vary greatly on the terms. True Terran Fleet wants K'Krex to withdraw from YZ Ceti and DX Cancri and they wish to present it as an ultimatum. Republic of Ross want K'Krex to stop their aggression against YZ Ceti and DX Cancri, but they aren't prepared to go beyond economic sanctions. People's Democratic Republic of Ross are content to leave the K'Krex be and wish only for a pact of non-aggression.
61 Cygni Conference
The ships with emissaries of The Reach, Star Gods, Kingdom of Procyon and Tian Technocracy arrive to the 61 Cygni and request safe passage to the location, where the conference will be held. The Commonwealth issues a statement, that it might send representatives as well.

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
Sthuthid Federation
"Permission to board granted. We offer species-specific accommodation for up to 20 representatives from each faction. We wish the ship to be weapons free, but other culturally important items are allowed."
The ship is a massive hulk of steel. Inside, corridors are narrow, sparse and tall. Doors are cylindrical, and open with a hiss. A human being could breathe the air aboard the ship, but would probably find it thin and uncomfortable. Artificial gravity is slightly higher than Earth.
The conference room is about a hundred feet long by fifty feet wide. A table stretches the entire length, with numerous high-backed chairs. A topical map of the galaxy blinks in holographic image on the tabletop. Everything is bathed in a pale blue light.Last edited by Mashimoto; 2011-03-13 at 03:04 PM.

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
The Commonwealth:
Spoiler
1: Sure. Peace and trade are both good.
2: House Varulf votes for combining our militaries to combat piracy together. It'll help with unifying the Commonwealth.
3: House Varulf votes that we demand K'Krex withdrawal from YZ Ceti and DX Cancri. Economic sanctions, support for the Anarchists and even military action would be considered against the K'Krex forces in YZ Ceti, and economic support to the factions fighting the K'Krex in DX Cancri, in the case the K'Krex refuse to negotiate.

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
ISREC provides drones to escort the new arrivals to the location of the conference.
Martin Thoms ship; the Seeker docks with the Whalechild. Martin leaves his weapons in the ship, and places a small filtration device in his mouth to help him breath. He is accompanied by just one man, his assistant and translator.
To GM
Spoiler
At the conference:
The filtration device is also designed to filter out any air-bourne spices the Sthuthid might decide to pump into the air.
Elsewhere
Posing as the Glorious Kingdom of Procyon, our spies will leak information regarding the Commonwealth's plans to deal with the pirates, to the public.
When this information has been given a reasonable amount of time to circulate, (enough time that the pirates could have learnt of it without my telling them) the pirates will all retreat to other systems.Last edited by razovor; 2011-03-13 at 05:31 PM.

Spoiler1.) Introductions
2.) Official recognitions of Sovereignty
- Do you accept the sovereignty of the Sthuthid Federation?

- Will you assist in funding the expansion of the Warp Network to include Sthuthid and Sumus stellar systems in exchange for future trade and in the interest of goodwill?
4.) Commerce and Trade
- [Private negotiations between planetary representatives and executives of The Cardeen Spice Company]
- Do you have any trade interests you would like to establish between yourself and The Sthuthid Federation or yourself and The Sumus?
5.) Non-Aggression treaties
- Will you sign a mutual pact of non-aggression with The Sthuthid Federation?
- Will you sign a mutual pact of non-aggression with The Sumus?
OOC:
SpoilerNo tricks with the ventilation system, but you're right to be paranoid. Anybody who can't breathe a non-Earthlike Nitrogen atmosphere needs breathing apparatus. Similar issues for creatures not used to near-Earth gravity/pressure/etc. Sleeping chambers for up to 20 representatives of each species in the gravity/pressure/lighting/atmosphere of their species are provided. We will attend the meeting.
As already said, we wish to engage in trade relations. We will also sign both pacts of non-aggression. We recognize the sovereignity of the Sumus and the Sthuthid. We are currently unable to fund the warp project. Perhaps we can be of aid in the future.

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
DX Cancri
Explosions rend the K'Krex Hive Ship asunder, as despairing Solaris commanders activate bombs. Still, not all of the nukes go off - some hesitate for too long and are overrun and others go silent, killed by K'Krex special infiltration unit, under command of promising K'Krex officer. The Hive Ship is destroyed, but not turned into cosmic dust. There are survivors in sealed sections and salvaged, that can be used to rebuild the ship.
The GDF Fleet takes some damage, but manages to retreat to the Warp Gate to the Star Gods system, without losing many ships.
The Solaris Fleet intercepted at the Procyon Warp Gate takes a far more serious beating, losing about half of their numbers.
The remaining ships scatter, some joining in with GDF, others escaping to the Alpha Centauri Warp Gate and a few crash landing on the Rouke III.
The forces of the GDF Coalition are soundly defeated, and their fate will depend on whether K'Krex and Hive Mind continue their pursuit into other star systems.
Solaris Inc. and WNNC: New Entertainment Channel
Today, Solaris Inc. has acquired broadcasting rights from the WNNC to launch their own, galaxy wide entertainment channel. While the primary audience is expected to be human, a special block of programs will cater to aliens. The marketing campaign for the new channel is sweeping the interest of the public, lead by the channel's official mascot - ''Sunny Cool''.
Galactic Stock Exchange Opens in Kingdom of Procyon
The first day of stock trading has shown Solaris Inc. going strong despite the news from DX Cancri. Their deal with WNNC has lead to stronger position of both companies.
House Varulf stock have being going up and down for months. The experts credit the erratic price fluctuations to mixed signals - losses from piracy and concessions to Galactic Labor Union on one hand, and strong brand name as well as formation of Commonwealth on the other. Today's trading closed on a positive note for House Varulf.
Trantis Coalition's stock price has declined slightly.
Light Shipyard's stock has dropped in price, after the news of GDF Coalition defeat, but a few experts are advising to buy now, predicating strong comeback soon.
The stock prices of Procyon's own companies are on the rise.
The Commonwealth stock prices remain low, an indication that investors are still cautious of the supposed peace and unity in the Triad Systems.
Technology Fair
The Society for Kej Preservation offers ''Kej Signalling Codes: Repair'' for (++) Economy. This Signalling Codes would induce Kej present in the system to engage in repairs of damage to ship's hulls. The ships must have their weapons offline, or Kej will not approach. The Light Shipyards can purchase this technology at 50% discount.
The Reach offers ''Garden of Eternal Eden Kit'' or GEEK technology for (++-) Economy. This technology promises to make colonization of inhospitable planets less costly both in terms of materials and human lives. They also offer between (-) and (+) Economy for new data on alien ecosystems.
===Communications===
Commonwealth To ISREC
We will attend the conference in 61 Cygni. House Varulf will be our main representative.
Commonwealth to K'Krex (Esp. ++++)
Spoiler
Your unprovoked aggression against the YZ Ceti and DX Cancri can't be overlooked. We insist that you withdraw militaries from these systems and begin negotiations for peace.

The decline is small. It's mostly due to other nations marketing themselves and doing noticeable things, plus a little due to losses from piracy.

Re: Total War: Future (IC)
To House Varulf, Light Shipyards, and Ascension Coalition:
SpoilerLalande 21185
The three battered ships begin salvage operations as well as there own repairs and almost immediately something becomes clear. Most of the dreadnought was devoted to something else. There is a giant open space that fills most of the interior of the dreadnought. It's purpose is unclear without further analysis, but obviously it was important. In addition all the systems normally associated with a warship only taking up a small fraction of the outer hull. Of course on a ship this size that small fraction is still a very impressive amount, but most of the space between the thin crust of weapons and armor, and the hollow interior is taken up a by a bewildering array of machinery with no discernible purpose. It's analysis will have to come after the ships have been refitted and return with a larger science complement. Even so though there are several pieces well within the ship's current carrying capacity. Several sections of incredibly durable material have torn off of the dreadnought's drives, it appears to have any number of uses, from armor to construction. (+ to econ or mill). A lucky shot appears to have destroyed one of the secondary plasma cannons power conduit but left the main circuitry intact. It can be pulled away intact and if supplied with power would be far better than any current plasma weapons in production (+ mil). One of the pieces of machinery in the interior is a bit more understandable than the others. It appears to be a high capacity computer cluster and attendant data collection/sensor array. Likely it would be very useful for any type of research (+ technology). Everything else however will have to wait for future retrieval missions.
To Light Shipyards
SpoilerLalande 21185
The cyborgs do indeed reactivate. However they do immediately go on their previous campaign of destruction. Instead their human portions appear to have regained control. They are bewildered as to what has happened to them. And don't understand what is going on. When they realize just how extensively they have been modified their reactions range from stoic acceptance to complete mental breakdowns.
