Chest-binding. Possibly painful, but totally doable, even with breasts of that size.

Guys, you can find pretty big breasted ladies, as well as more..... 'plump' people of both sexes shooting bows quite successfully, without any painful mutilations....

So I would dub it as a legend indeed, made up by slightly disturbing Greek or whoever.

Yeah, it was a legend. The greeks wanted to portray the Amazons as frightening, but also unhinged.

Weren't the amazones entirely made up? Like the greek made a lot of things up to emphazise their points.

There are no traces of removal in any works of art, but in the literature it is suggested that they burned one or both to prevent them from growing to full size. It's known as Breast Ironing, and it still happens occasionally today. Obviously not in that particular case, though.

Of course, legend or myth is obvious word here.

There were Scythians, and other migrating tribes of the "North", that had apparently had seen quite a few mounted, women involved in fighting and hunting.

That was definitely unusual for Greeks, so the road from that to the myth of woman only warrior tribe was quite obvious.

Scythians, I thought. IIRC, they were perhaps also responsible for "Centaur" myths, since they were great horse archers.

Amazons were supposed to live in Pontus, on the southern shore of the black sea.

Does anyone know what webcomic those military De-Motivators are from? The two I saw were on page 5, a surprise round and a pyro maniac poster. The webcomic looks great and I want to read it, I just can't find it!

On the Trail of the Women Warriors - the Amazons in Myth and History by Lyn Webster Wilde

The leading contenders are Scythian and Sarmatian cultures being the seed that started the legends. There is also some evidence in Celtic mythology of these myths being far more widespread that first assumed. Such as the primary trainer of the Ulster hero Cu-Chulainn being the 'famous' woman warrior Scathach from the Isle of Sky who's sister (Aife) and daughter (Uathach) are also warriors. There is some speculation that the translations of the the Ulster myths are in error, and the Scathach, Aife, and Uathach are not from the Isle of Sky, but are actually Scythian.

Gone with the Blastwave is the military comic. Hilarious, but short. And it only gets 2-3 updates a year, it seems.

Well, it's not so slow as SMBZ, the Sonic/Mario crossover with heavy DBZ influences. Completely different mediums (Still images vs. Flash videos), but man, that is slow.

The most similar aspect is, of course, their update schedule.

Anyways, seriously, the monk build tangent got a lot of flak and lasted half as long. Less boob/archery dynamics and more de-motivators!

What is not a myth is that many modern woman archers wear plastrons as protection, for the similar reason many archers wear braces, just for a different portion of anatomy.
Maybe ancient woman archers bound one breast or wore similar garments for the same purpose and this started the whole "only one tit" Amazon story.
