The Fang of the Deep - Enemy Phase

As Kihtsah leaps into combat with the ghost, her spectral hand swipes at him, leavign him on the verge of unconsciousness. His responding strike is successful in dragging her back down to ground level, luckily.

The ghost cackles. My powers have returned! Meet your doom, hahaha! she laughs as she rips a hole in reality and steps through it, appearing in the air above the deck. The hole stays in the space she left and the new one she occupies. She activates her Globe of Darkness spell, and then launches her breath weapon down at the collected Hunters near the stern of the ship, hitting all her intended targets.

    Spoiler
    Show
Kihtsah takes 17 necrotic damage from her AoO. Then Kihtsah, Rahman, Amirah and The Wolf each take 18 necrotic damage from the breath and take OG 10 necrotic damage and are immobilized (save ends both). This is sufficient to knock Kihtsah into the negatives. Until the end of her next turn, the spaces D13 (ground level) and E17 (+10 ft) are considered the same square for the purposes of being adjacent, movement, etc. The ghost is 10 feet up in E16.

The priest stands up, but his wounds are overwhelming him - with no obvious targets, he just sits and waits. His archer companion reorients himself and fires another arrow at Hakhpur. The arrow hits weakly, but only the merest touch was needed to get the poison into Hakhpur's system - just as he overcame the last dose, he finds himself fighting a new one.

    Spoiler
    Show
Hakhpur takes 3 damage after insubstantial from the arrow. However, the poison still gets him, for OG 5 poison + dazed (save ends both).

    Hakhpur

As the arrow hits Hakhpur's body, the sorcerer's aura suddenly changes.

It's not the dark and mysterious deep purple aura of the Falaqui anymore, but a blazing, scorching, radiant aura drawn out of Dhuqa itself. It's aura is warm to his allies, but deadly to his enemies.

    Spoiler
    Show
The first time I become bloodied during an encounter, my phase automatically changes to the next. Now I'm in the Phase of Dhuqa, which allows me to fo the following:

·I don't get the skill bonuses of the Phase of the Falaqui anymore (+2 Insight and Perception), and instead I get +2 to Heal and Initiative.

·I can't do the Falaqui teleportation trick, but instead every enemy that at the start of my turn is adjacent to me take 6 fire and radiant damage.

·I don't become insubstantial after hitting an enemy with an at-will sorcerer spell, but I can make a saving throw every time I hit with one.

·My resistance 10 radiant is replaced by resistance 10 cold.

So... This new phase is useful, but risky.

As Hakhpur feels the poison weakening his body and mind, Hakhpur glared at the archer. "You blasted idiot, you made me change my Phase!!"

Among the cold sweat, Hakhpur aims his staff towards the archer, as radiant and lightning energy accumulate. "Well, you asked for it..."

...And he releases the blast towards his opponent, enveloping the area surrounding it in a lightning and radiance explosion which also fills the ground with scorching ashes.

After the hit, Hakhpur feels relieved and his mind is clearer. He uses this chance to move closer to his opponent so the Dhuqa aura burns it mercilessly.

"Ahhh, much better! No more poison in me!"

Standard: Blazing Starfall @ Archer (but centered on H5)

    Amirah, Living Swarm

"Not this again!" says Amirah, sounding rather pouty about the insidious magic paralysing her swarm. "Ghost lady, you are not very nice. Flying up there where we cannot hit you is unfair. You should come down."

Even as her thoughts are projected all around, Amirah's shape becomes, once more, humanoid, and her hands move quickly as she calls on nature's spirits. Except this time its no simple wolf. The sea starts to rumble, and a massive column of water arches over the ship, barely missing the heads of all her companions and inundating the air above them.

The Fang of the Deep - Mid-Player Phase Update

Rahman's armor expands his aegis to envelope all his nearby allies to shield them from the ghost's breath weapon, greatly reducing its impact. Meanwhile, Amirah throws up her hands to channel the water of the ocean to hit the ghost, but with a giggle and a brief movement, the ghost easily evades the shower of salt water designed to drag her down to earth.

Hakhpur's shower of crackling radiance burns the archer in many places, and the snakeman can barely stand. The heat bearing down on him from the sorcerer's Dhuqa Aura seems to be nearly enough to cause his collapse. But it doesn't even get that far - though Medinah's spell fails to reach the priest because of the intervening timbers, it hits the archer quite adequately. Hissing and cursing in its native tongue, the archer screams in agony before dieing to the acidic spray.

[The Fang of the Deep - Enemy Phase

Rahman's sword comes down on a spot where there is no monster to slice, since Amirah's wave failed to knock the ghost out of the sky. As Medinah's magically-laced stare bears down on the priest, he meets it for a moment - and a moment is all it takes for the spell to cause his head to explode! Since he's so far down, the brain matter thankfully doesn't reach Medinah, but it is not a pretty sight. Meanwhile, Kihtsah subconsciously busies himself with not dieing, and mostly succeeds.

Awww, I used up all my toys! moans the ghost. Using the Dimension Door she had established previously, she comes back down to ground level and moves to a central place on the deck. She fires a mindbolt at Rahman.

Even as Khitsah's last breath fades divine intervetion takes place to revive him from death's door. Healing energy suddenly surges into his body and stabilizing his condition and bringing him back to the world.

The Fang of the Deep - Enemy Phase

Rahman fails to lift the Ghost's paralysizing breath effect from Kihtsah, and the half-efreet still does not awake, his condition bringing him a step closer to death as Teshiq struggles against the same affliction and lends his healing prayers to Daq to Medinah. Medinah and Amirah rush into battle; Medinah's gaze has a tangible effect, though Amirah's writhing slam is a near miss.

The ghost tries to slap Medinah. The pitiful attack misses, and she hisses in frustration. She waves her arms about briefly and her globe of darkness rematerializes.

If ghost gets hit, Amirah will shift 4 to anywhere in or next to the blast. Any hit enemies she goes through get +5 damage. Amirah will use this to go through the portal, through the ghost, and hopefully to a solid space behind her.

At that point, I'll reconsider the situation (currently, seriously considering using an action point to push her back through the portal, but will depend on many things, including of course actually hitting something)

The Fang of the Deep - Boss Transition!
Medinah's gaze miraculously manages to pierce not only the darkness, but the portal leading to the ghost's location belowdecks. As the spell immobilizes her, she scream in pain and frustration. I shall not be treated like this! Prepare for oblivion, fleshbags! she screeches in a not-at-all girly, innocent voice like the one she usually uses. Her globe of darkness vanishes so that all can witness her next move. From her position belowdecks, her eyes glow a fire-y red. The whole surface of the deck between the forecastle and the stern castle begins to get chewed up as if it was being passed through a woodchipping mechanism at a mill. Medinah, Amirah and the wolf quickly flee before its onslaught, as even the wyvern corpses are consumed by the spell. All of the resulting debris is drawn back towards the girl, as she climbs up into the sky. As it approaches her, it ignites and surrounds her, and soon the ghost seems to be a maelstrom of firey energy! A wave of flame leaps out from her, avoiding the maze of explosives in the hold and reaching out to scorch the Hunters! And now you burn! comes a malevolent voice in everyone's heads, a method of communication employed similar to Amirah's. The ghost itself is now a massive swirling cloud of fire smoke.

    Damage:
    Spoiler
    Show
Kihtsah takes 30 fire damage (critical hit). Hakhpur, Teshiq, the Wolf, and Amirah take 18 fire damage. Medinah and Rahman take 9 fire damage.

    Important Note for Everyone:
    Spoiler
    Show
As some of you may realize, I use the Boss Battle Variant for solos found in this link. The Ghost has now entered stage 2, her Avatar Of Fire form! Everyone can recharge one encounter power and spend a healing surge as a free action. In addition, Medinah, Amirah and the wolf need to pick locations on the forecastle with Hakhpur that are within their move speed to reach. I will provide a new map soon, but the jist of things is that the main deck no longer exists - the belowdeck area is exposed to the sky, and of the abovedeck area, only the two castles remain. The corpses of the she-da-zhong mounts have been consumed by her firey supernova. In addition, Hakhpur's previous Foe Stone analysis no longer counts - he is going to have to use it again if he wants to learn about the Avatar of Fire. She is also relieved of all conditions that were previously imposed on her, including marks, curse, immobilized, oath, etc.

    Map: Coming Soon!

As the deck explodes below them, Amirah gathers herself and throws a quick mental command to the wolf to get out of the way. She quickly calls upon her magical energies and manages to shield the wolf and herself just in time, managing to escape the conflagration with minimal burns. Indeed, with so many insects crawling away from the explosion, Amirah looks, if anything, much more fit than she did a few moments before, even if a trail of dead insects show her flight was not without a cost.

The Fang of the Deep - Enemy Phase

The ghost lashes out in her new form. I shall incinerate you all! Your flesh shall fuel my flames, pathetic mortals! I am as a GOD! comes the vicious voice in everyone's heads. In the middle of the maelstrom of fire that seems to be swerving in the middle of what was once the deck, some of the Hunters think they can just see the ghost's form, huddled up and... asleep? Whatever it is they are now fight is definitely not asleep, though. It flies towards the foredeck and unfurls a flaming tendril at Medinah. The flame strikes true, and the Warforged finds her chassis slightly charred. The heat near the elemental is practically unbearable, and the creature seems to augment its aura further with a conscious effort.

    Spoiler
    Show
The creature moves to F7-E8 (she is now Large) and attacks Medinah successfully for 16 fire damage. In addition, the Avatar has an aura 2 which causes enemies to take 5 fire damage when they end their turn in the aura. At the end of her turn, she does something which makes it an aura 3, which deals 8 damage instead of five. The aura seems insufficient to detonate the crates - a deliberate firey attack (or acid or forced movement) is needed to set those off.
