So I am sitting here typing this, roughly 15 hours from making the entry exam to the UNAM which is the biggest and one of the most prestigious/best schools here in México.

I have prepared for this exam since the end of October, and I am still nervous... :sight: this will definitely by a restless night.

The thing is that there are thousands of people who try to enter the UNAM each year, and the ones who enter is a proportionally low number, for example out of roughly 63,000 people that presented the test last year only about 6000 people managed to get in.
Comes with the territory I guess, since it is a public university and therefore the only option for many people to continue studying.

For my particular career, they only accept about 200 IIRC, so I am quite nervous

Good luck, man. Most of the schools I'm looking at don't require entry exams aside from the SAT, which I already took... (2120. HAH!) But auditions are going to be freaky, especially since I'm not jazz or classically-trained...

That's what I got on my best SAT! I took it twice though, and the scores add up to 2170. If you're going into music school, that won't matter much though. Good luck to you.

And to the OP! I don't know anything about Mexican university stuff, but you will do fantastic. We raise 'em the right way in the playground.

Edit: @V: I did it my second try without studying. First try was 2020 without studying. I guess you got me there. But I was still automatically admitted to virtually every college in my area, so the difference is negligible.

Does anybody study for tests like that? I didn't study for the ACT and only finished half the science section and got a 30. I guessed on the last seven or so questions.

I still have to retake that.

Not to start an argument, but there was never any point in measuring what you've learned through the SAT. Any idiot can memorize stuff without comprehending it. If there's a lot of stuff, maybe not any idiot can do it, but you get the picture.

The point of the SAT is more along the lines of an IQ test - to rank participants based on how smart they are, without (much) taking into account their work effort - that part is reflected in their grades.

And the questions themselves reflect it - math ones don't need much more than grade 9 or 10 math, but about a third require lateral thinking. Language ones require good vocabulary and comprehension, something acquired by reading a lot, rather than memorization of grammar rules.
