Eldritch Theurge ideas
In my endless pondering over character ideas I find myself coming up short with a good wrap up for a character I've been thinking about. The character in question will be a focused specialist Conjurer (ban Evocation, Necromancy and Enchantment) who bargained to become a Warlock and then went into the Eldritch Theurge class. I would plan to take three levels of Wizard, three of Warlock and the full ten of Theurge. Now the question is what to take for the final four levels? If possible I would like to advance both base classes' spellcasting power, but I am not adverse to sacrifices spells for something else.
The role playing idea for the character has him at Lawful Evil. For race I'm inclined towards Illumian with the Naenkrau sigil. I'm willing to substitute the race or alignment for something else though.
Mechanically I am going for a guy who uses his invocations mostly for all-day buffs while using his spells for battlefield control and calling in back-up.
No third party books, but Dragon is ok. No cheese.

Re: Eldritch Theurge ideas
Pretty sure that shoots the only way to get 4 more levels of +invocation/+caster level, unless your DM lets you make the same mystic theurge exception as Shadowcasters get (subbing the divine req for invocation casting, in this instance).
Amazed you're giving up necromancy on a warlock character. I'd consider normal specialist just to get it back.

Re: Eldritch Theurge ideas
Hi
Just a thought, but have you considered either Beguiler or Warmage for Battlefield Control?
Beguilers use their illusions & enchantments to control, Warmages just blast or cast Evard's Tentacles & the like. Both aer spont casters (Beeguiler Int, Warmage Cha).
Thanks

Re: Eldritch Theurge ideas
Epic level handbook discusses extending 10 Level prestige classes into epic. Discuss with your DM and maybe you can homebrew an acceptable 4 Level extension to fill the gap.

Re: Eldritch Theurge ideas
I'm not sure what you consider cheese....
Southern Magician + Contemplative should do it.
Southern Magician lets you cast arcane spells as divine, so you qualify for Contemplative.
Contemplative advances Wizard casting (or Warlock invocations), and, since you do not belong to a divine spellcasting class gives you cleric casting at your Contemplative level. This makes Contemplative a divine spellcasting class. (Most PrC's don't work this way.)
Now you can take three levels of Mystic Theurge advancing Warlock on the arcane side and Contemplative on the divine side.

Re: Eldritch Theurge ideas
I like this idea, personally. Now you can cast arcane and divine spells, as well as invocations, which makes you an extremely diverse caster. If I did this, I would focus on buff spells with the cleric levels. You can buff yourself in this way, and since you're specialized as a conjurer you could also buff some of your summoned allies for extra power.

Re: Eldritch Theurge ideas
Beguiler warlock works very well.
Depending on wether you want to actually use eldritch blast, you could ask wether you can trade in the d6-es for an invocation each.
That would make you more versatile.
Warlocks get charm monster and Suggestion (with extra suggestion power) at-will, so they make great tricksters and infiltrators. My first foray into homebrew: The Circuit Mage

Re: Eldritch Theurge ideas
There is no instead. There are 3 clauses there.
1. Contemplative advances any casting class.
2. If you have two or more divine casting classes, you must choose 1 to advance.
3. If you have no divine casting classes, you gain cleric casting at your contemplative level.
2 & 3 are mutually exclusive, but 1&2, or 1&3 are fine.Dex
